Square One

#1 Post by Magnus »

Date: Autumn, 432 ca., Campaign Day 10
Time: 7:15
Weather: 45 degrees
Location: Steading Dungeon

************************
Magic in Effect:
Protection from Fire/Protection from Lightning (Most party members)
Control Temperature (Antheris) - 7 turns remaining
Levitate (Lorath) - 5 turns remaining

**************************
Antheris: 45/48 (-30 lightning damage)
Vorsyin: 48/48
Gaerys: 50/60
Hollis: 50/50
Lorath: 40/40
Ethan: 65/71
Marcus: 31/35
Tybalt: 36/46
Nia: 33/33
*************************

The party awakes, and quickly regains their bearings. Not a sound of giant or monster can be heard. They realize that their wounds, grievous in many cases, have largely healed.

The party's eyes adjust to the dim light of the fading torches. Lorath, who is now in physical form, recognizes that the party is in the giants' treasure room (Room 31). As the party looks around, they see a series of chests and coffers arranged against the walls of the chamber, as follows:

1. Huge Wooden Chest (unlocked)

2. Large Wooden Chest (unlocked)

3. Medium Iron Chest (locked)

4. Large Sack

5. Medium Iron Chest (unlocked)

6. Large Metal Coffer (locked)

7. Large Iron Chest (locked)

8. Small coffer (unlocked)

9. Medium fine steel chest (locked)

10. Small wooden chest, inlaid with Valeryian script.

Numbers are for DM's reference only.

Finally, the party sees a large growth of yellow mold in the south east corner of the room.

The party's rather drastic change in circumstances is the result of a party member's actions. I would not have let you all off the hook that easy. (Actually, I was enjoying the possibility of a few character deaths. )

"Whoa, what just happened? I thought we were done for for sure!"
Hollis shakes his head and tries to get his bearings.

Lorath tentatively hovers up from the floor to the ceiling. "what ... just...happened?"

Antheris

Antheris looks around, stuffs his mistletoe back into his haversack, and holds one finger up to his lips.
Taking a quick head count, he then notices the yellow mold and runs through his knowledge of fungi to identify its properties.

Niamah stands and quietly dusts herself off, looking around she then moves toward a wall perhaps a door...carefully avoiding any mold she places her ear against it listening intensely.

Vorsyin is confused at first. He looks around the room and wonders where the magics came from that transported them.
He looks to Lorath, This was not my magic, was it yours?

Tybalt whispers a prayer to the Lord of Light. "I do not recognize this place."

The room has a doorway out but no door. Look at the map.

Niamah does not hear a peep when she listens against the walls.

Antheris, along with the other experienced adventurers in the party, recognize the yellow mold as a potentially deadly hazard. The puffy growth can release spores when disturbed, which will lodge in the victim's lungs and can suffocate the victim.

Antheris

"That yellow mold is deadly should anyone get near it or touch it. I suggest all move to the opposite end of the room. Perhaps we can burn it carefully with some oil if we must approach it."

Antheris then looks to gauge the distance of the yellow mold from any of the chests, boxes, sacks, and other items in the room. Are any within ten feet of the mold?

"can't we just manoeuvre round it without touching it? Better to leave it be than disturb - that will be when we really get problems!"

Magnus how close is the nearest chest/box to the mold?

All of the chests can be accessed without stepping within 5' of the mold.

Gaerys can scarcely believe his senses. The last thing he remembers that made any sense was attacking the giants. An attack with arrows—he should have known that wouldn't go well. When the giants answered his arrows with lightning, darkness took him. He had awoken, still badly broken and bruised, for only a moment before blackness took him again.

When light returned once more, his broken ribs were healed and most signs of his recent electrocution gone. And he was in a treasure room?

That's not the way the world works, he thinks. Is he still lying on the floor of the secret passage, and this all just the result of a dying mind's last delusional thoughts? The incredulous ranger looks around the room and tries to wake up from this dream.

Niamah says quietly "Perhaps a woman should check areas for traps, traps often protect treasure and rooms that hold them." Pulling her googles over her eyes she begins a meticulous scan of the area, once near the open doorway she pulls the cloak tightly around her and slips into hiding. "A people should be still and quiet if they can, a woman will check for dangers beyond. A quiet whisper again comes from the shadows. "A woman will not move to far..."

Such a "meticulous" search, covering 10 objects, floors, ceilings, etc., will take at least an hour. Are you going to complete the search or scout (where specifically?) first?

What is the rest of the party doing if she is searching for an hour?

My bad I assumed with googles it would be much faster, in that case I would like to scout first to assure, if possible, no attacks headed our way, if the party agrees. As for where unless I am wrong you stated there was only one doorway we see, with no door. I would begin there, then I will leave it up to the group how much time they want to take for a trap search.

Gaerys is still not sure this is really happening, but if it is, he can scope out the immediate area while Niamah checks for traps on the chests, if he could borrow the cloak.

Niamah looks at the ranger, "A woman feels traps may block the way, that a people would use to leave, she would check that first."

Ethan quietly asks the thief to wait on going out the door. Before we go out, does anyone know where we are? Do we know how much time has passed since the fight? What of our enemies? Were they affected by this magic? It's quiet, so let's orient ourselves before anyone leaves.

Niamah smiles at Ethan..."A people are in a room with treasure and a poison that takes this form." She points at the mold " Does the warrior see another way out? The answer to his questions do not lie in this room. The stones look like those of the steading a people were in, a woman thinks they are still within it." Niamah bows to the warrior and stands next to the wall waiting for the rest to speak if they wish.

Tybalt stays clear of the mold. He watches the doorway.
