"Hmmm... I'm sorry, but I'm not climbing that high. Also, there's no way I'm leaving my armor behind. There must be a way in—a normal one, I mean.

I know we just looked, but I'm going to check the base of the spire again."

She starts feeling along the base with her hands as she goes.

Tlachtga will help Elnaerel search for a secret way in.

"Climbing that kind of height without magic seems crazy to me as well."

Holmfrid will attempt find the source of the strange vibration, or at least where it is the strongest.

The fighter stows his bow now that the immediate threat is gone. He takes a moment to look at the massive spire. I will not attempt to climb that. As the others go about investigating their surroundings the fighter does what he's trained to do...stand guard.

Lerrick

The cleric inspects the wooden pages and tries to scamper up a few of them to see if her magic bracers help her with the task.

Late Morning, Clear, Calm

Wes flies back up the 300 foot tall rough spire, seeing the footholds all the way up its immense height, when he spots something coming up from behind him out of the corner of his little eye again.

Tlachtga and Elnaerel look around the base of this spire, but find nothing in the way of a secret entrance. Looking up, most agree that 1000 feet would be far higher than they care to climb without some security measures.

Holfrid searches around on the rocky ground nearby, trying to ascertain what might be making the rumbling noises underfoot. Though she remains uncertain at what may be afoot here, this situation reminds her a little of hunting the dangerous Remorhaz back on her icy world. These were dangerous monsters that could borrow under the frozen tundra of her lands, only exposing themselves to accumulate food from the surface.

Lerrick starts making her way up the circular spires foot pegs, finding no difficulty whatsoever in making the climb herself.

Wes dives back to the party as fast as he can.

She watches Lerrick climb with a twinge of envy. "I'm pretty sure I can make it. We can set up a rope system to secure each other if others decide to try."

"I'm a bit concerned about what may happen halfway up. Not a lot of cover."

She smiles. "But good news? No sentient creatures to massacre. I think we found out what I was most interested in. Maybe we move on to the activation part. The Library."

"Princess, what does your demon sponsor think of these spires? Always best to have as much information as possible before making a decision."

A smile appears on the cleric's face at the suggestion of the Princess to climb the spire. She looks up towards the top of the spire again. As much as my desire to try to scale the spire steps is there, and it is definitely present, my better judgement tells me that it is too dangerous to attempt, for me anyway, magic aided or not. As you said, I'm worried about what else is lurking out of site besides birds of prey. I believe moving towards the other activation sites is the right way to go. We most likely wont be able to explore this site further until all other obelisks are activated anyway.

"We should make haste, I think something is coming from the underground. Let us make it to the activation site."

Elnaerel nods. "Yes. Moving on sounds like a good idea."

Those climbing the spire seem to have a change of heart, suddenly wishing to leave this place to find the Library they were told about instead.

As they regroup on the ground, Wes, still in raven form, seems to have forgotten how intense nature can really be. While he casually repositions to start his dive away from the hawk again, he is immediately set upon from above by the other hawk, who was already in a dive to pick up enough speed to catch the smaller bird.

The second hawk grabs Wes's tiny bird head within its strong talons, raking violently at the smaller bird as they swing around each other in mid air. 2 dam Feathers fly as Wes tries his best to dive and turn, but the sharp talons keep him secured in place within the other birds strong grasp. Then Wes spots the second hawk flying in closer to attack him as well.

She will ready hold animal in case it is needed.

"Get lower Wes!"

The range for hold animals is 8", if it appears to be going badly for Wes when they are in range he will cast it on the Hawks.

"My blackmailer gives me no information. Have you never been extorted? That's not how it works."

She winces as Wes seems to have been caught in a trap. "How about his health, Tlachtga? Does he have Wes health or Raven health? Because I don't want to watch him get torn apart in the air."

Finally hearing what Holmfrid is saying, she whips around. "From underground? The pit, or something else?" She happily takes her eyes from the potential carnage in the skies to scout around the ground to understand what Holmfrid is talking about.

"Wes is much tougher than a hawk, even in hawk form. But he can still be hurt."

Wes

Wes fights back as best he can against the hawk. Struggling against it's grip, he pecks at it's face as best he can.

Realizing he has to get the fight closer to the ground, he flaps his wings to interfere with the movement of the hawk's, trying to break their rhythm and cause the bird to lose altitude.

With most focused (with good reason) on the bird above, Holmfrid will continue to try and figure out the shaking source.

Holmfrid can't tell exactly what's making the ground beneath their feet vibrate and shake, but the sensation is clearly getting either stronger.........or closer.

While Elnaerel hopes to see Wes morph into something bigger and harder to hold, the raven tries to fight his way out of this mess, flapping his wings in order to slow the hawks aggression. As the tangled pair starts to plummet from the sky, the second hawk dives in for another attack, pecking Wes hard in his bird ribs. 2 dam Though he can withstand a good deal of this minor damage, the ground continues to approach at an alarming rate of speed. (lets say you've dropped a little over half the distance to the ground so far, so......approximately 100 feet up at this point)
