02 - The Draconian Menace
Re: 02 - The Draconian Menace
Thea and Wick
Wick and Thea are happy with this and, assuming the others too, are will thank Erandil for his flexibility.
Wick suggests they take the treasure to the church of Pelor for safety. He also suggests they gift the bowl with the Pelorian symbols to the church and have them look at the potentially dodgy snake god statue.

Nentir Inn
Twentysixthday, Fifthmonth 616 NF
Clear, 18 MPH winds, 55 degrees
Morning
The party holes up in the two rooms Erandil provides and enjoy a quiet night. The next morning, Orok and the other dwarves (Azmumin, Tordek, Braddoum, and Krandrid) return to share breakfast with you and trade stories about the battle with the dragon two days previous. The dwarves can't help but be loud braggarts, laughing and joking with each other, and soon everyone in the common room is leaning in to hear more about your exploits. You expect word will get around soon about the Dragonslayers!
Orok wanted only the agreed upon payment for his brothers and is very pleased with the coin you all are sharing. They each in turn shake each of your hands and declare you dwarf-brothers for life!
If you want to recruit Orok or any of the other dwarves as hirelings for another adventure, they would no doubt be quite interested (except for Krandrid, who lost an eye so his adventuring days are behind him now).
The dwarves agree to escort you to the House of the Sun, so you can "deposit" your coins. Once you arrive, they grab their share and take their leave of you. They are traveling back to Hammerfell soon but promise to find you for a night of drinking and celebrating when next they return to Fallcrest.
Grundelmar comes out immediately when he hears you've arrived. He listens to your story, grinning widely when he learns how you took out the kobold tribe. When he hears of your epic dragon slaying battle, he roars with approval!
Pelor is proud of you, lads and lasses! Out there smiting evil in its very lair! Why, if I could get you on the Trade Road, those bandits would be runnin' for their mamas in no time!
He examines the bowl you brought him and declares it a fine work of art. He's honored you'd give it to the church and says he'll use it in some of his rites going forward. His face turns darker when you show him the jade statue.
This is indeed a symbol of Zehir, the god that Pelor fought for mastery of the sky during the Godswar. I cannot let this continue to exist. I will smash it and grind the pieces into dust. Still, since you all have been generous to Pelor, the church will be generous to you in return.
Grundelmar gives you the value of the statue in silver (520 sp). He also agrees to hold your coin and gives you each promissory notes in return.
What now? Do you want to visit Teldorthan and return his dragon hide? Visit the Lord Warden and deliver the kobold wyrmpriest's bone mask? Get the other valuable items appraised? Learn more about the Spear?

Sounds like a good plan.
I got busy this weekend and forgot to update my PCs, I will try to get to it after work tonight.

Re: 02 - The Draconian Menace
The party makes their way north and then east to Moonstone Keep to visit with the Lord Warden. Marik, the Lord's Steward, receives you and asks to see the bone mask. Once you show that to him, he agrees to show you in to see Lord Markelhay right away but first he will deal with the matter of the reward. The party killed 26 kobolds for a bounty of 260 sp, plus another 100 sp for the bone mask. Marik asks if you want the coin or if a promissory note would do. He also instructs a scribe to write the introductory letter to the Lord Mayor of Winterhaven for Markelhay's signature.
The Lord Warden is well and truly pleased to hear of your success. He had heard vague rumors of dragon slayers in the city but didn't believe them until now. Markelhay wants to see the trophies you've brought back, and he admires the Chieftain's Staff and especially the Storm Spear.
The Spear looks like quite the puissant weapon, my friends. I would caution you to be careful while traveling with it in the North. The barbarians of the Winterbole Forest will attack on sight if they see that in the possession of someone not a member of their tribe. Should you desire to give it to me, I could easily find a weapon of similar quality in my armory.
Let me know about the reward (coin or note) and if you want to trade the Spear (whatever the Lord offers will also be a Major Magical Item).

Re: 02 - The Draconian Menace
Senorix inquires about the weapon that the Lord Warden would be offering in trade. Markelhay nods and whispers to one of his servants. A few minutes later, a pair of servants carry in a long thin wooden chest, gilded in gold and platinum.
The Lord Warden says, Generations ago, my ancestor won this sword in battle. He opens the chest to reveal a gleaming great sword. The pommel of the sword is shaped like a dragon's head and the word 'Vivex' is etched down the blade, just below the cross guard. This is Vivex. It means 'victory' in Draconic. This blade is dedicated to Bahamut. It requires a certain amount of strength to wield, strength which I am sure you possess. I would not put such a blade in the hands of any sellsword but you have proven yourself a loyal servant of Fallcrest and I would trust you to use it for the behalf of all men, elves, and dwarves in the Vale.

Senorix looks at his companions, thinking he sees their approval of the deal. "We will make the switch. Thank you for your offer."

Re: 02 - The Draconian Menace
The Lord Warden signals to one of his guards, who walks over and takes possession of the Spear. As soon as the man grasps the spear, he freezes in place and closes his eyes for a few moments. Then he opens his eyes and nods to Lord Markelhay.
Markelhay appears to be quite giddy. He claps his hands with glee, stands up, and follows the guard out of the room.
Marik steps in and holds his hand to guide you out of the room in the other direction, as another guard removes Vivex from its case and offers it to Senorix. I will have my scribe deliver the letter of introduction to you, as well as your payment. Thank you for your service to Fallcrest.
After perhaps a half hour of waiting, the letter and coin are delivered.
Going to Teldorthan next?

Re: 02 - The Draconian Menace
Senorix can feel the connection with the sword and Bahamut. He also senses a power it has.
Lightbringer Once every 1d4 days, release a burst of blinding daylight; all creatures within Close are Blind for 1d4 rounds (Luck (Dex) save resists).

Re: 02 - The Draconian Menace
The party travels down the bluffs into Lowtown and south almost to the King's Gate to find Teldorthan's Arms. The smith is there and very pleased to see you with dragon hide in hand.
Well done, lads. I heard you had to defeat another dragon to get this back! A shame you weren't able to salvage the hide. But I can still work wonders with this one.
Teldorthan has four silver ingots, one for each of the party members as the promised reward, but he also offers each of you a discount on any items in his store if you wish.
Teldorthan is a master armorer and weaponsmith and can make Masterforged Gear. The discount is 10%.

Re: 02 - The Draconian Menace
Teldorthan replies, Yes, one of the knights in the Lord Warden's service has asked me to make a scale mail overcoat with it.
Re: 02 - The Draconian Menace
Teldorthan recommends a business called Naerumar's Imports for buying and selling valuable items like gems, jewelry, etc. The party troops back up the bluffs to Oldtown and finds the shop.
Orest Naerumar is a tiefling, a relative rarity in the Vale except in Fallcrest. He is obviously used to dealing with wealthy customers, as he is impeccably dressed and polite to a fault. He agrees to view your items.
Turquoise gem - Small but nicely cut. I'll say 170 silver.
Ivory earrings studded with tiny diamonds - Oh, this is fine workmanship. Quite possibly from Nera before the fall. I'll give you 470 silver for them.
Platinum ring with lion motif - Yes! Yes, indeed. I can snap my fingers and five noblemen will fall all over me to buy this. 780 silvers for it.
Drum with volcano icon painted on it - Orest claps his hands with glee when its powers are demonstrated. How clever! Quite amusing. I can see dragonborn armies marching to the beat of this drum... perhaps from far-away Mount Korinda. I want it... but hard to price it until I can find a buyer. How about a trade, like for like? I have two items I could see parting with, in exchange for the drum.
Orest holds up a finger to signal you to wait, then disappears into a back room. A couple of minutes later, he returns with a small sack and a foot long wooden case. First, he opens the sack and lays out a dark furred cloak.
This cloak is fashioned from the pelt of a dire wolf. I am told it protects from the natural elements. To a degree, though. Wear it in the desert and the sun won't affect you, but stick your hand in a campfire and you'll get burned.
He then opens the wooden case to reveal a copper wand with a blue gem at the end.
This wand can detect dweomers and other magical effects but using the wand causes quite a bad headache. I have to lay down for a day after using it. But perhaps you're made of sterner stuff.
A dark furred cloak fashioned from the pelt of a Dire Wolf. While wearing it you are immune to adverse temperature changes due to natural environmental conditions (eg blistering heat from the sun, but not fire or magma burns).
This copper wand has a blue zircon gemstone at one end. Activating it (mental command, requires an action) imposes a throbbing headache (causing 1d2 Int loss) but allows you to detect magic as Pierce the Veil.
