Re: OOC discussion
Alethan, in the event that Bran's class change is OK'd (I can't imagine it won't be), you'll be able to level up to 11, as per UA. If you also want to make a deity change, now would be the time to do it.
Failure is always an option.

Re: OOC discussion
Yep, I'd pondered that and was thinking I'd probably stick with Muamman Duathal and try to focus my spell selection on ones that aid travelers/others. If I make the change, I'll make a little section of "Available Spells To Choose From" and list what might be appropriate there (for your consideration, of course).Gelatinous Q wrote:Alethan, in the event that Bran's class change is OK'd (I can't imagine it won't be), you'll be able to level up to 11, as per UA. But... after reading through the Dwur deities again, I might change that to Clanggedin Silverbeard; seems more appropriate for a fighter/cleric.Alethan wrote:Yep, I'd pondered that and was thinking I'd probably stick with Muamman Duathal and try to focus my spell selection on ones that aid travelers/others. Re: OOC discussion
Well, we've had 4 OKs and a green light from the DM, so I think I am going to go with the Fighter/Cleric option.
I'll have my character sheet updated in short order (by EOD Saturday, at the latest).
But in character, you can pretend like nothing has happened... except that Bran is maybe wearing a holy symbol around his neck now.

Re: OOC discussion
Updated my character sheet. At the last minute, decided to drop the WIS to 15 and put the 18 into DEX for the AC bonus. I ended up losing the +2 HP bonus and only got 3 bonus spells, but I think the better AC score more than evens it out.

Re: OOC discussion
All: Please note that I've posted a rough, incomplete map of Ratikhill in the MAPS thread so you can get your bearings. Also included is a preliminary city charter. I'll be updating this throughout the game — it's very much a work in progress, so if you look at it and wonder, "Where is the wheelwright?," just ask and he'll magically show up soon enough.
Please keep mockery of my map skills to a minimum!

Re: OOC discussion
Sorry I missed the convo here re: healing. I for one welcome our new dwarven (half) cleric.
I liked UA when it came out. In those pre-Internet days, it was nice to have the pictures of weapons. I liked cantrips and barbarians. As usual w/ AD&D, I ignored everything I didn't like. My copy isn't yet falling apart, but the spine almost immediately began curling up, like a comic book that has lain in a stack too long. Bad glue I suppose?

You were in Mexico, then?

lol
We should do more OCC in here, so as to not gum up the main thread.
on the topic of marching order after losing our escort.
I assume we will still have mounts.
I would ride point if we want to. I have some bonuses on surprise rolls as a ranger.

It couldn't hurt to have another archer at the rearguard as well, as there would then be ranged weapon capability in all directions. Savik would certainly volunteer for that spot when riding on horseback outdoors.
And besides, when we ride up on that Death Knight, he'd be in a perfect position to lead the retreat!

Re: OOC discussion
All:
You'll note that I've been pushing the expository prelims along without necessarily getting everyone's inputs; in the interest of pace, I think that's fine and I hope it hasn't thrown anyone out of the loop. If you ever get the sense that things are barreling forward a little too quickly, just let me know and I can certainly slacken the reins. We are about to get more into the thick of things, where everyone's inputs are needed — don't be shy about hashing out tactics, disagreements, etc. in threads.
That said, don't expect any major updates over the next 2-3 days. I'll still be checking in and can answer PMs or provide minor clarifications, but you won't be meeting Alcastra until Wednesday night.
regards,
John

Just a note that I'm going to be running Glogs as an NPC over the next week or so as opabinia/Lee is basking in the sun of the Outer Banks.

Just make sure you wash your hands before typing his posts...
You dont want him having an OCD attack in battle.

Re: OOC discussion
I'm not MONK bad OCD, but...
Last night my wife called me out on something I'd been doing for a while now.
We both give our son his bath every night. Several months ago we got him a pack of bath toys to play with - a turtle, a turtle, a dolphin, a dolphin, a lump of coral, an octopus, a crab, a fish, and a seahorse.
Last month, at a garage sale, my wife found a bunch of stacking cups that were all brightly colored and had holes in the bottom of them for playing in the water. We use them in the bath, too.
But he doesn't get ALL of the animals and ALL of the cups at once - he just gets two or three of each.
Last night she finally noticed I'd been making sure the animals I give him match colors (as closely as possible) with the cups I give him.

Re: OOC discussion
so, loot....
3 have the long sword proficiency. None of which is frontline fighter type
Savik, I would scribe the scroll into your spell book.
wand is a toss up, though a thief should get it, so that leave Ulf.
so, I say:
Savik, scroll
Ulf, wand
and roll off for the sword?
assuming these are temporary assignments?

Re: OOC discussion
Savik will bow out of that, as he has numerous other resources at his disposal; spell casting, thieves' skills, good with bow, etc.Nuke66 wrote:so, loot....

You are a mind reader, good sir!Nuke66 wrote:Savik, I would scribe the scroll into your spell book.

I was already thinking of this and wondering if Savik could do so. Problem is, he doesn't have any magical ink. To be honest, he had thought to try and get an audience with lady Alcastra, and appeal to her as a fledgling user of magic (& interested searcher of her desired book!), to see if I could get those 2 spells scribed into his traveling spell book (already made a successful Int roll during character creation to know Magic Missile, but had already hit my limit of 4 spells known on the previous roll!) or perhaps that could garner him some favor in some way.
Honestly, as we're strategizing here, Savik should try and use his Find Familiar spell as soon as possible, especially if he could convince Alcastra to "front" him the material components needed (100gp worth of incense/materials). Problem is, it can take anywhere from 1 to 24 hours to work, so not sure how this'll play out. I'm planning on PMing GQ about this though!

Scroll: yes, as I believe Savik is the only one who can use it.Nuke66 wrote:wand is a toss up, though a thief should get it, so that leave Ulf.

Wand: yes (especially if Ulf & Savik can't make their Find Traps rolls and still suspect one. It would be great to have the wand to fall back on. Remember: a single charge can only search for secret doors OR traps at one time, not both. User must signify this prior to usage. At least Gordon (half-elven) and Savik (elf) can search for secret doors as much as possible, in addition.)
Sword: guess it's a toss up between Iomhar and Gordon. In my FtF group when we have this happen and do not put it to a party vote, we do a game of KingsFeather (players roll a d20 & whomever is highest wins!).
FWIW, If we are doing a party vote: I think that it might be better utilized by the assassin, since the cleric/ranger can cast spells and turn, plus have his ranger ability to only be surprised on a 1 in 6 & surprise unaware opponents 50% of the time. Plus Gordon has racial abilities and double the hit points of Iomhar, and the assassin doesn't have thieves' skills till 3rd level. Just my 2 coppers...
