WHO ARE YOU?

#1 Post by OGRE MAGE »

I just remembered something that a GM did in another game I'm in on here that I thought was pretty cool.

So, tell us a little bit about yourself.... (this is optional of course)

I'll start.

My names Rob and I'm still pretty new around here I guess. I played in a AD&D group way back in high school (mid 80's) but have been away from the gaming table for a long time until recently.

I'm married with no kids and luckily for me, my wife has recently taken a liking to gaming also, so we have been attending all of the local cons together for the last couple of years. It's been a blast so far and I feel blessed that the 2 of us have found something enjoyable that we can both do together.

I'm an old-schooler as far as RPG's go. I like anything D&D that was before 3rd edition. (I don't know anything about the editions past 2nd) I have played other games but I think AD&D will always be my favorite. We have tried several others at cons and with our FtF group, but I haven't found anything that I like better yet and maybe never will.

I work at our city's Electric and Water Utility as head of the Maintenance department but also as a fill-in plant operator. I enjoy sports, riding my motorcycle, and reading. In my spare time.......I'm on here. :)

M name is Scott, but if you ouldn't figure that out...

I'm just going to quote myself from the introduction thread:
Scott308 wrote:Hello. I started playing Moldvay Basic back in the day and then went on to 1E AD&D. Played into college when weekends ended up being time for drinking games instead of role-playing games. Tried running some 2nd edition stuff for my wife and oldest years ago but didn't really work out very well so it didn't last. I've always been a big video gamer and really liked the RPGs like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, KOTOR, going back to Wizardry, Bard's Tale and Ultima on the Apple 2e. I had been thinking about getting back into pencil and paper gaming for a while but hadn't taken the first step until I saw a 1st year con was going to be held 15 minutes from my house, in Madison, WI. I looked through the online listing for games and didn't recognize that many games but figured I would get some 1E games in and try out some stuff I had never played before, both old and new. Went down to the GameHole Con, bought my ticket and spent the weekend having a blast playing games and meeting people. In fact, one of the first things I did was see Frank Mentzer and ask if he would sign a couple of things for me. He was happy to do so, and we sat at a table so he could sign. After he was done, he asked if I was interested in playing a game, as he was carrying a couple of board games with him. Of course I said yes, and got to play a couple games one on one with Frank Mentzer! Pretty good way to start my first convention, huh?

While I was there, I got some info from the Madison Traditional Gaming group and started going to the FLGS they play at each Tuesday, and have been in a regular game there since the start of this year. I started with Savage Worlds, which I had never heard of before, because it had room for a new player, and had a good time. When that ended, I played Star Wars (WEG) 2nd edition and recently started a Pendragon campaign. On top of my regular Tuesday game, some of the groups in town have games every month or so on Saturdays and I've hit a few of those when they fit into my schedule. On top of those, a friend I met at GHC moved to Florida and is running a couple of things online that I play in. One of the people I met at GameHole was Ogre Mage, who messaged me on FB asking if I have played any PbP games, as he has been playing here for a while and invited me. I have never played any PbP games before, but think I may have to give it a go. After having a break from gaming (with a few brief attempts during the span) that lasted 20+ years, I'm making up for lost time. :D

Outside of gaming, I am interested in music, sports on tv, snakes, spiders,movies...
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. You're thinking of Diz, Ogre. I'm in that game as well ;)

Some of you may already know this but my names Ben, 23 in February and I live in Maryland Heights Missouri. If you're thinking of visiting just pick somewhere else

I don't know when someone can say they are new or a regular on the Unseen Servant. I know I've been here less than a year but my post count is close to 3000, so I'll let you all be the judge on that.

I try to play anything that catches my attention, being fairly new to the whole "D&D" type games. I guess you could say I was brought into it and found out i'm a natural. I love the role playing games and so far have played AD&D 1e, 2e, Osric, a few homebrews which I liked a lot. And then there are always other games, such as this fine game here.

I like to keep it varied and just have fun, not getting stuck in one type of mindset, every game is different to me so it always needs to be taken as a first time approach, not dissected for the similarities to other games.

As for myself... I work at a telecommunications company, doing sales, support, logistics between sales (basically helping sales guys with their projects), shipping, etc... I basically do everything, but it's a small company and we all wear different hats. I am currently not married and have no kids, not even a girlfriend at the moment.

I do have a cat named Slush that I call my slave. Oh and my hobbies include Writing, Running my own Dragon Age Roleplaying game, playing in other role playing games, drinking at bars... that's all I got for right now.

My Names Ed as it says in my avatar box under real name. I'm in central Vermont. "I'm a AD&D addict." this is where you all say "Hi Ed."

I try to have a sense of humor openly if you hadn't noticed. I have been a AD&D 2e player since the 90's near the end of my elementary school years and my start of junior high school. I played ftf only up until about the time my friends got far more into consoles and computers game wise. I get to play ftf maybe once a year or less. Married for 8 years I have 2 kids and I'm 32. I have worked as a IT support person for the last 6 years. Been a desktop engineer I guess you can call it for 5 years and now currently in a decent paying job as a Service Desk agent for National Life Group. I've tried 3rd edition and I hated it. I also was in the play test for a few months for 5e or Next and I hated most of it. I like Ogre will always be into and love the old school systems flaws and all. ;)

I'm Paul. I'm married, live in Chicago, and work as a librarian at a local university. Prior to becoming a librarian, I was in software development for some time.

I was introduced to Holmes Basic D&D in '79 by a friend who had just gotten it and have played off and on since. No real experience other than through computer RPGs of the 3+ editions. I've written a few articles for Small Niche Games' Brave the Labyrinth zine and will likely write more.

I'm familiar with Birch Run. Well, familiar with Tony's, anyway. We would often stop there when driving from the UP to the Detroit area or vice-versa. Had to check the map, though, to see where Kingston was.
