My run was pre-Apache, so we had Cobra gunships as well. I never saw combat in them, but we flew training missions like this and also anti-tank runs. The range time was way fun. Even forty years later, I can feel how it was to fly through the trees at ridiculous speeds, only the rotor blades peeking over the tops. I even got stick time. Life was good.
Pretty cool stuff
We did, indeed, love the smell of gunpowder (couldn't get any napalm) in the morning.
Sounds fabulous!
I got some stick time in Chipmunk trainers and also flew gliders solo but (only as a passenger) I can affirm that helicopters surely "move in a mysterious way" compared to fixed wing aircraft (that aren't fitted with a "ground away lever"). Got lots of range time as a cadet. Never forgot the sound of bullets (.303 Lee Enfield) sounding like "tearing paper" inside a Welsh valley.
Top photo!

The secret to understanding how helicopters move is simple and yet counterintuitive. The wings on a regular aircraft control its flight dynamics. For a helicopter, those wings are rotating in a disk over your head. Once you really grasp that, it all makes sense. The part you ride in is just a carriage hanging under it all. You manipulate the rotors to get it to do various things that sometimes seem backwards and the body of the aircraft swings along after it.

In my expert opinion as an A&P, helicopters only fly because they are so ugly the earth repels them. Also, if something isn't broken on your helicopter, it's about to...

OOC: Can't leave you alone for a minute can I?
The tight beam bounces off the angled repeater to Jackson Hole and almost immediately a tone comes back, then a message,
"Stand by for contact!"
A transmission comes, full video. You see the face of a young man with a large bushy beard tied into short braids on his chin, a bald head and bright green eyes,
"Jackson Hole responding to unknown ship. We welcome visitors who come to trade and respect privacy. Just be known that we don't tolerate anyone who comes to make trouble."
"Approach and docking instructions are being piped to you now. Um, you'll have the identifier KG-702 here unless you have one you're willing to provide?", and you see data coming in on a sub-channel,
"Oh and seeing as you're in from out, Doc Rodgers will be giving you a checkout to make sure you're clean when you arrive, so expect him. Once we have his clearance and your docking fees are paid you'll be free to kick your shoes off and kick the cat."
"Jackson Hole, over.", the man awaits your response.

Zaki, who's been eavesdropping on the channel, looks at Sigrun.
"What's a cat, and why would I want to kick one?"

"Besides, I'd probably end up caring for it, and we have no vermin for it to hunt. Ew."

"I need to do more research."

After finishing with the equipment post jump check list, Karcsi will check on the sick engineer and place some cold water next to him.
If he is awake he will ask how he is.

Your lucky, the only pic of have of my army days (medic) was the one they took with Basic with the bib uniform. But there is one in the 'yearbook' with me standing looking pretty cool with a M203 under a M-16.

As she watches the bridge screens over Donovan's shoulder the spread of Sigrún's slow smile is that of a predator much higher up the food chain. She growls a response
"You should have a care that your feral pet doesn't sink her teeth into some soft Imperial flesh".

I also had an M203. Gor lucky one year during qualifications and they gave us a case of HE to expend. Lots of fun.

"Yes, Doc will have to do a look see on you for Medical reasons. We have had ships in from out that brought in bugs we weren't set up for, you understand?"
"Docking fees depend. External docks on the hull are 100 credits for a day or 500 a seven day dockage. An internal dock is 400 a day or 1000 a seven day. Both in advance, of course. Oh, and linking to Station Utilities, power, water, etc. is an extra 100 a day either internal or external." he continues leaning back a bit where you can see the very colorful shirt he is wearing...a virtual riot of colors...and you can see behind him another person drift by the screen. The Control Center must be in either very low or zero g.

Listening to the conversation Sigrún shrugs then offers "Internal or external docking's not going to stop the Beltalowda crawling all over our hull if they want to. External dock makes running easier while internal dock supports our credit rating and thereby facilitates our claim to be here for trade. We might be better hidden from out system sensor scans with an internal berth. There's advantage and disadvantage both ways".
