As his friends look on in sheer amazement, Wes transforms from his usual Half-elf form into a sleek black feathered raven right before their very eyes. He takes flight as the others gasp, with only Tlachtga understanding the amazing powers of the higher druidic sect.

Once Raven/Wes gets closer to this crater, he sees something totally amazing. Huge glowing white chains are hung from each of the four statues atop the mighty basalt pillars, apparently attached around one leg of each massive silver statue. The chains are large enough for a horse to walk across, and each is connected to a huge black circular platform suspended directly over the center of this open crater. From the center of this black platform rises a tall, clear obelisk, much like the ones you have encountered before. The surface of the obelisk is not glowing, indicating that it hasn't been activated yet. The inside crater walls are strange brownish/red color, while the outside rock and surrounding area is a streaky greyish black. Inside the opening of the crater is a black void that reminds the Druid of dark spots he has seen in other areas on this island, it too retains the unpleasant and unsettling feeling of the other smaller anomalies.
Wes gets closer to the first statue, looking much like a huge silver dwarven warrior.
In mid flight, he suddenly spots movement from a concealed perch high atop the statue as another bird takes flight. Then he hears a loud screech from the bird, slowly remembering his current place in the natural food chain.

The Princess

She gasps when she thinks she sees the other thing flying. "Tlachtga. How much of Wes is kept in the raven form? Is it full Wes, or Raven guided by Wes? I think there's going to be a fight up there."

Lerrick

Oh dear...He needs to hurry back.

The fighter looks on. He quickly retrieves his bow and notches an arrow

"Full Wes, if the hawk is normal I doubt it can kill Wes but he is not used to the form yet so I think it will be best if he get back to us."

Wes

Wes angles his wings and dives back towards the safety of the party as fast as he can.

As the others watch in fear for their flying friend, Wes turns his wings and starts into a dive that creates a little more distance between him and this obvious predator.

In mere seconds, he returns to the group on the ground as the hungry hawk in pursuit suddenly flies off again before it gets too close to the likely dangerous party below.

High above, among the elevated statues, they spot another hawk flying around these odd rocky spires.

"I guess we'll have to scout ourselves on foot." She shakes her head, looking in the distance.

The Princess

She looks on in envy as Wes Raven dives effortlessly through the air. Her thoughts go back to the flying carpet that someone found and disappeared with.

"Let's see what he found. I don't want to climb all that if we don't need to right now."

Wes

Wes hops on to Tlachtga's shoulder. "SQUARK!!!" he screeches, then in a close imitation of his regular voice, says: "That. Was. Close".

Wes snags a bug out of Tlachtga's hair. "Bird. For. Now. Useful. Maybe".

Yes, and yes.

Common territorial behaviour, it seems. Likely a mated pair.

Your probably fine if your not currently in the form of prey, since they clearly flew away once they saw you.

"Not worried about the hawks but those statues are a concern. Anyone have an idea on how we are going to approach them?"

After Wes snags the bug, "Stop that, get your own."

Wes ruffles his feathers and bobs his head to attract attention. (Truth be told, he's enjoying his new form. Truly, The Shalm's generosity is wonderous!) After a small "Yark!" he begins:

"Statues. Probably. Safe".
"Holding. Chains."
"Drop. Chains.
"Drop. Obelisk".
"Ambush. At. Chains?"
"Fall. Into. Void?"


Wes preens his feathers for a few moments to catch his breath, then continues.

"I'll. Scout. Better".
"Next. Time."
"Be. Invisible."
"To. Animals".

At the behest of Elnaerel alone, the group sets off on foot, eventually approaching the nearest statue topped spire that towers over the massive crater stretched in front of you. No real danger can be seen in this area from the ground, so the party takes a closer look around the base of the spire, where a set of very crude climbing pegs and some feint footholds can be seen etched around the width of the monument, spiraling up its massive height. It would seem that others have tried to climb this spire from this area as well, but how long ago is impossible to determine. None of this looks new.

Standing at the base and looking straight up, the daunting climb looks to be over 1,000 feet in height.

Besides the roughly sloped crater walls before you, the rest of the surrounding area is comprised of only jagged, barren rock. Oddly, you feel a strange vibration in the rock under your feet periodically as you look around this area. Th normal smells of the jungle have been replaced with a strange metallic sulfur stench.

Wes

Wes looks around to see if the hawks are still around. If the area looks clear, he flies up a couple of hundred feet. Looping around the pillar he tries to get an idea of of how far up the foothold go. Does it look like a serious trail to the top, or one that peters out after a short distance?
