Audition for the rhythm guitarist! Well, not really a formal audition, just the current band members acoustic-jamming at a house party near the Tufts University campus. (Not that any of them had anything to do with Tufts. Or probably the word 'university' either). The jam is going good, people of various unique types of and levels of consciousness have gathered around. Or going on about their partying, as new people come in. The bedrooms are all occupied with the doors locked. To everyone in the hallway's great chagrin, the bathroom's door is also locked. "Knock knock! You two wait for a bedroom, like everyone else!"
Somebody screeches a turntable needle during the middle of Kansas's "Carry On My Wayward Son." Strange raw music (Iggy Pop and the Stooges' "Raw Power") assault's everyone's ears for a minute or so. Everyone but the Band make faces or their eyes. Soon enough, there's a screech across that vinyl surface too, and Queen's "A Day at the Races" settles in.
At that point, two mysterious strangers somehow find guitars and join the backroom jam.
Aydon "Scott" Hamish

This guy riffs on the bass player's noodling, and takes it one level higher. "Dig it, keep on truckin'! Yeah. Bass, for the bridge move up like this. Same fingering, just a shift up." During a break, "My name's Aydon, but everybody calls me Scott. It's short for 'scotch.' Because I like scotch." The band kicks up again and they all go to new places they've never gone before.
James "Janx" Wilkie

Wilkie came in a little later, after having waited a long time for the bathroom. "Good thing I didn't get arrested for public peeing. Man, wish they'd left that Iggy Pop on." Sits down, drops some Visine into his eyes, and gets right into the jam. But his playing is a little eccentric, not very blues-based. More like Yes-classical based, and more angle-y. He sings kind of a backing vocals thing with a few actual lyrics thrown in, "Da da-da da, breathes there the man with soul so dead, oo da-da da, bands of azure, bands of red...."
It's a great jam, they forget time, the riffing and soloing just flow all night until the sun comes up. Unfortunately, no one thought to record it.
Q: Who does the band select for their rhythm guitarist? Aydon "Scott" Hamish or James "Janx" Wilkie?
Q : If they do, do they remember it the next day?
Whoever's picked will be my PC. You can PM me your vote if you prefer.
