Re: Session 1: Red Larch
If Roderick uses his 'lay on hands' here Ardium (likeonlyme wrote:Ardium will look about getting his wounds healed.
Delgrot) will only have 1 point of damage, which will be restored with a night of rest.
Can we assume this will happen?
Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Sure.
Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Alara looks happy to finally arrive at the town, and that her friends are looking a lot more healthy
"I too would like to take you up on your offer of the Inn, Master Samdarag, and I am still very much interested in helping you with your delivery to the wizard."
When Nexus asks about sharing spells, Alara shows and interest "I would be happy to share spells with you, perhaps the wizard will be able to provide us with some suitable ink and quills, as I'm afraid I have none on me"
OOC: Dave, I'm not sure what materials and how long you rule it takes to understand and copy spells? Alara would be interested in Color Spray and also Armor, but that one would have to be postponed until she reaches a new level, as she's failed her roll for that already

Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Getting Rid of Gery
The group agrees to take up Samdarag's boarding offer at the Swinging Sword, but first, something must be done with Gery. "That one'll need to go to Harburk," the merchant says of the bandit prisoner being dragged behind his cart. "He's the constable here in Red Larch."
So, while the Swinging Sword is just off to the left after entering town, Samdarag wheels his cart in the opposite direction, towards four identical single-story stone buildings, running back from the street in a line (#11 on map). The front building has a painted sign of a ham being carved by a cleaver, accompanied by no words. Based upon the smells emanating from the second building, its use as a smokehouse is obvious. The third building, with wash hanging by clothesline outside, and is the home Jalessa, the local butcher, shares with Harburk Tuthmarillar, the town’s constable.
Jalessa and Harburk are both found in this front house, going about their business, when the group approaches. Jalessa, the actual butcher, simply wipes the sweat from her brow and continues to go about her work, cleaving perfect slices of meat: Harburk, spying Samdarag, and Gery, steps out of the workshop, dripping in sweat: The constable takes in the details of the ambush and stands in silence for a few moments while considering the appropriate punishment. "No one was killed, right?" he asks rhetorically. "Alright, Gery," he starts, shoving the still bound prisoner in the direction of the fourth building, where a generic young male stands, waving the bandit towards him. "Don't worry," Harburk says. "Gery is just a punk... but now he's gone too far. I'll see to it that he serves a month of penal servitude in the quarry for each one of you that he and his gang caused harm upon."
"Got anything else for me?" he asks Samdarag, who replies in the negative. The constable, a slender but powerful man, offers a surprisingly firm handshake with a well-calloused hand to each group member.
"Anything from any of you?" Harburk asks. If not, the constable and assistant butcher appears eager to return to his work.

Ardium makes sure his wound is noticeable, and utters a warning that a month per injury seems awfully light when Gery would have killed had the group not been as strong as they were.

Jaroo watches the townsfolk talk. He thinks about mentioning to them that there were dead bodies left behind after the fight but gets distracted watching the effortless motions of the butcher doing her work.
Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Alara stands next to Ardium "With all due respect constable, as my friends says a few months for attempted murder seems light, particularly when the felon shows no sign of remorse and he and his friends treated it all as some kind of jape"
Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Nexus is content to stand by behind his taller companions. He doesn’t say anything but nods when the others complain about the sentence of the scoundrel/ would be murderer/robber.
The gnome wizard will keep his eyes on the surrounding town nearby, looking for anyone that is paying the companions any special interest, out of the ordinary as it were. He will note their particulars to memory, size, height, weightish, hair colour, eye colour, race, age etc, if anyone is paying the group a certain scrutiny.

Delgrot has little to say in the matter with the prisoner figuring locals know what is correct justice for their area more so than he would be as a visitor, so he heads off to get a good meal and drink.

Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Concluding Business & Situation in the Inn
"Considerin' the ambush 'n all, it appears you survived relatively unscathed," Harburk says matter-of-factly, noting the wounds were limited to the dwarf and elf being transported in the cart.
Ardium utters a warning that a month per injury seems awfully light; and this sentiment is shared by Alara, who moves to stand next to the wounded elf. "With all due respect, constable," she starts. "As my friend says, a few months for attempted murder seems light, particularly when the felon shows no sign of remorse and he and his friends treated it all as some kind of jape." Harburk, a hardened and seasoned veteran studies the half-elf. "I'd be careful, miss." he says flatly. "Any of youse who think two full months of nothing but demanding physical labor is light -- I welcome you to try it." The constable shoots a glance at Samdarag and makes no attempt to conceal his eye roll. "Now, yer new here, and I'll forgive yer trying to tell me how to do my business... "
"These people's laws are their own," Roderick chimes in. "We have delivered this miscreant to the appropriate authorities, who have passed judgment and sentence accordingly. The punishment may seem lenient, but justice must be tempered by compassion. I, for one, consider our business here to be complete."
"Finally, someone with some reason and common sense." Harburk says, nodding at the avatar before stretching his back. "Now, if you'll forgive me, I'm a very busy man and need to get back to it."
Samdarag thanks the constable, then turns to the group. "Very well then," he says with a deep chuckle. "What do you say we get you those rooms?" The merchant grabs hold of the poles of his cart and begins to wheel it around, back towards the the Long Road, which leads to the Swinging Sword, and begins the short walk.
Jaroo seems disappointed the group is now leaving since he's forced to tear his attention away from Jalessa, the master butcher, who's talents had been on display this whole time.
Before leaving, Nexus shares that he did not notice any undue attention being paid to the group.
"There was no changing Harburk's decision," Samdarag says as the group approaches the three-story stone structure with a steep slate roof that is the Swinging Sword. "And is better to be in his good graces; believe me."
A 10-foot long signboard, carved into the shape of a wooden scimitar emblazoned with the inn’s name in red paint on both sides, juts out over the door, hanging from chains.
Snorting and shuffling sounds, coupled with the unmistakable scent of barnyard animals, and waste, suggest stables and outbuildings can be found behind the main building. The stablehand peers at the group with his one good eye as they pass.
The Swinging Sword is welcoming and luxurious by the area’s rustic standards. The first of three floors consists primarily of a large, open dining area with wooden tables of various shapes and sizes, and wooden chairs and stools in good repair. A handful of locals are in the area sharing drinks, and hardly notice your arrival. From all appearances, the 'dining' room is used mainly for drinking; a fact Samdarag confirms, mentioning something about poor chimney venting, and kitchen fires, but merchant is distracted by a handful of individuals huddled close to the one-story, out of commission kitchen annex at the back of the inn.
"Excuse me," Samdarag says as he begins to amble over to the group, which appear to be in a bit of a heated exchange. Before the portly merchant is able to reach them, a young male, appearing in his young 20's, notices him, and the group, and begins excitedly rambling incoherently as he approaches Samdarag. All the group can make out is the word "help." "George, calm yourself," orders an older male; also a part of the huddled group. A middle-aged, but younger, woman puts wraps her hands around the arm of this older male and clinging to his side. "Oh, Arryn," she says, stifling a sniffle. The final member of this group, an older woman with a head of white hair, approaches Samdarag and flashes a broad smile. "Ever the drama," she says, leaning in to whisper something into the merchant's ear. "Good to see you again, Kay," he replies. Samdarag turns to the group.
"It seems there's a bit of excitement at the moment," the merchant explains. "Please, join us," he says, waving the group forward. "Kaylessa... but you can call me Kay," the whispering woman says, curtsying slightly. "I run this dump," she continues proudly.
"Yer right there's some excitement!" the younger man, George, proclaims excitedly from the background. "She's gone! She was taken!" The older man and clingly middle-aged woman approach the excited young man and attempt to calm him.
"Ghileeda," Kay says, waving to catch the attention of an exotic looking barmaid that emerged from the out of commission kitchen. "Four -- no, make it five, gallons," she says.
"Let's sit," she says, joining a few of the longer, rectangular tables together for a larger seating area. Samdarag is more than ready to take a load off and takes a seat at one end of the table. "Sit," he says, welcoming the rest of you to join him.
