***Rafo, Cave Entrance***

Gathering up a large stone, Rafo tosses it into the cave. "Varrick, I suggest you lead. Maybe you can talk your way out of any danger they waits within. Or stand back and let whatever is in there have their way with you. Judging by your past actions, thinking about when back in town, that last option might bring you some sort of twisted pleasure."

+1000 Experience Points for making me laugh. Now That's a dwarf.

The stone clacks on the stoney floor within, echoing slightly.

Varrick chuckles a bit at the dwarfs remark, "Aye, Sure a'll be takin lead, wouldn't want tha brave Dwarves ta be up front eh? A' wouldn't insult anotha's free time wit'out tryin it first yeh? Ya might insult som'one a lower standin, who knows? A' may miss a trap that ya be steppin on eh? Hehe." With that Varrick then enters into the cave with his torch lighting the way, he checks the ground and walls for any traps and crevices that could be arrow holes or plates on the ground that could be pressure traps.

Whenever actively using a skill, please include a roll.

The cave is dark and dank. Seeming to suck in and absorb the light of Malfiacs flickering torch.
An acrid odor of mold, mildew, and the rot of years is so dense you not only can smell it but taste it on your tongue.
There is a coolness that caresses your sweating skin as you leave the humidity of the jungle behind.
As Varrick enters he pauses.

PM eminent.

The cave seems to be about 10' wide past the mouth. Room to fight two abreast.
I will need a marching order, please.

I like Rafo's marching order lol, short and to the point.

Varrick intently searches a wall, "An' this is why ya brought mah along, yeh." Varrick then attempts to use his knife to disarm the hidden trap or to release the trap so that it activates with them clear of any danger.

Traps(56.5%): [1d100] = 54

Just barely :o

I was half expecting Varrick to say "Nope. No traps here. After you, Rafo. " :)

The party stops short of the entrance as Varrick seems to fixate on some spider webs on a hand hold leading inside.
He studies the webs, lightly brushing some away, and traces a line from the wall to the ceiling and back again.
He kneels back thinking to himself before tracing the line a second time.
His body language signals he seems to have made a decision and he cuts at the remaining webs with his knife. A *spring POP whoosh * sound echos through the cave lightly, causing those gathered behind him to tense somewhat.
A glint of steel reflects from Malfiacs torch as a corroded scimitar shaped blade swings violently down from the entryway roof, slicing down and to the left of where those with less keen eyes might have been standing.

I thought about... But I decided to give rafo another chance. Varrick is all about love and forgiveness right? :P

"Now 'en." He looks back to Rafo, "Ya brought mah along ta solve ya trap issas, not help ya kill creatas 'at don' fight back. Next time ya feel like insultin meh a'd hope ya remember ta keep ya eye open yeh?" Varrick laughs at what a possible joke he made while the rest of the party saw it as more of a threat. He then holds his torch out and continues to enter the cave, keep his eyes out for anymore traps along the floor, walls, or ceiling.

Should I roll for spot traps again or will we just be continuing on into the cave?

unless actively searching something I won't require Spot rolls. If you come upon a trap I'll make Spot rolls for everyone who might see it privately otherwise everytime there IS a trap and I call for a roll the players will figure there's a trap. ;)

The trap is sprung and, Thanks to Varrick cutting the cord, it doesn't reset.

so marching order is Varrick, Rafo,...? Remember there is room so far for side by side marching as well.

Malfiac will take up a middle position, behind a dwarf in the front and right next to another, unless, Caltus wants to man the front... figured not. ;)

As the group descends into the cave, careful in keeping enough distance between himself and those up front, Malfiac will ask Varrick if this cave was marked on that map we all saw earlier, the one back in Elizabeth Bay. "I take it this is an area you are not familiar with? Could this be one of the unexplored areas that we need to start mapping?"

If this is the case, Malfiac will make mental notes of the layout of the cave, or at least try to remember the general layout, TRY to.... I will be rolling a Mapping Check every post to see if he is able to remember the layout as they descend.

Mapping 7% [1d100] = 11

Caltus the mage (14)

Caltus would prefer to take a mid-position, as well (not big on taking point or trail position)
DM: "Black Dougal gasps 'Poison!' and falls to the floor. He looks dead."
Fredrik: "I'm grabbing his pack to carry treasure in."

Thorgrim will take point along with Varrack. He will cautiously advance, his axe at the ready.

***Rafo, Caves***

Also, keeping an eye out for traps and hidden doors, Rafo grumbles to himself as he enters the welcoming darkness of the cave. "

Do dwarves get any special abilities while in caves/underground? Like dark vision, detect traps, detect hidden doors, sense slopes and new construction...?

As the group inch their way past the mouth of the cave and down the tunnel, the sound of trickling water starts to echo down the corridor toward you. The air seems to grow the tiniest bit cooler as you go. A welcome feeling after the humidity of the jungle. However, on that cool air a sickly sweet stench starts to permeate. The unmistakable aroma of death and decay.
Caltus' sharp elf eyes detects the flickering of light, ever so faint, ahead.
As you continue on, the sounds of falling water grow louder. Varrick peaks around a corner in the tunnel and sees a pool of water on the floor of the cave. Beyond, the tunnel forks to the right and left. A single candle stands on a brass stand between the forked tunnels.
To the left, a small waterfall drops from a smooth hole in the ceiling. The water falling smells fresh and is icy to the touch, but it seems to turn brackish green as it pools on the floor and flows to the left tunnel and out of sight.
On the floor of the left tunnel is Varricks dagger.

Varrick cautiously approaches the dagger, searching for anything that may be out of place on it, such as a wire or even blood on it. After inspecting it if he does not see anything out of place such as a wire or some kind of trap he will then pick it up.

Spot(26%): [1d100] = 91

Ooo boy, apparently Varrick is looking at this dagger with his eyes closed.

Varrick does spot blood on the dagger, and because you made the roll, you also notice that there are no footprints in the rocky soil going down the left tunnel. But there are small pieces of bone and even a couple of teeth in the stream flowing left.

***Rafo, Cave***

"Yep, I am with you. We can go left. Varrick, what the heck is your dagger doing way in this cave?" Stopping in his tracks, Rafo waits for his reply.
