Doug shakes his head Except it wasn't the Imperial Navy that nuked us. Depending on where they got those nukes who knows what signature they have. That might be worth investigating. We should have good sensor readings from the blast but analyzing the hull readings might help too. If you are their enemy then their possession of Imperial nuclear weapons and willingness to employ them makes them difficult to tell apart". She lets out a breath and then adds "The only other possible state backed combatant in this locality would be the Ine Givar but, unless they have greatly improved their procurement ability, they don't operate ships like that or have the logistical access to go launching flights of nuclear missiles at a target".

The group working on the hull do so quickly and safely with no issues. There is some superficial damage to hull plates, but other than the sprung plate that Karsci repaired and now is replaced, a few small pits that are ground out, and a some damaged sensors it is fine...except for one thing.

Your fine paint job recently purchased is ruined, more than ruined! Your cover was an advanced one that could be tuned between radiating heat/light away from the ship at well over 100% to absorbing heat/light at close to 99.8 %. Now is is a ragged mess, completely gone in many areas and useless in others.

Replacing the covering is going to cost upwards of Cr 300,000 and take a week to do by experts. You won't be able to do that here on Regina if you wish to "get out of here in a hurry."

Sigrún seems unsurprised by the revelation of the missiles' origin. Indeed it seems odd that this was an ownership option that she didn't mention earlier. She is clearly about to offer Doug some instinctive retort when she falls into brooding silence.

She eventually answers Flighty "It means my instincts are still good but there are just some things I can't yet see...". She rubs extended fingers over her temple "...or perhaps there are things I have... ahh..." she winces "...just lost from my mind. I thought I had fallen into your business but...".

She trails off then absently adds "I think might find some... clarity on Regina".

Donovan shook his head. "As long as we scrub the damage there should be no reason for close examination by the authorities. I still think we want to get out of here right away so it would be best to buy new on whatever equipment we need. We also should stock up on whatever learning modules we might need given the higher tech level here. Not docking will be suspicious and I can buy speculative cargo that will work for any destination we are likely to hit. Once we dock we need to resupply and get going ASAP."

Sigrún gives a cold laugh "We surely play in one of Loki's games here - but, to a degree, that helps us. I was fearful of tipping off Imperial authorities and drawing attention that would get us detained and so let us be caught. However, the presence of Sword World radiation is easily put down to an attack by Sword World pirates. Its discovery means a clue left for those that pursue us but it is not immediate grounds for being thought of as enemies of the Imperium. If the radiation is detected then the first reaction we generate, taken with the timeframe of our arrival, is local sympathy - not suspicion. Unless that's what they're looking for...". She tails off again.

After a pause her thoughts tumble on "Something still doesn't fit. Nuclear weapons are purely military assets and, even if they somehow fell into the hands of common pirates, would not be launched in quantity. That fighting profile... the whole attack fits the behaviour of a specialized raiding unit".
