Folks,

I will be stepping away tomorrow morning (Friday 6/6) for a wedding anniversary trip with my wife and will not be posting until Sunday night. I have posted an update to the action with carcass crawler and look forward for the party's actions in response to Nesto.

Sorry folks, I got back from my trip to find that my boss was no longer with my company...had to try to tamp down the chaos at work. New post is up.

What are you guys playing in person, just curious :)

I used to have an AD&D online game, but now I have a BX one, and an in-person Project Twilight.

My weekly in-person game is currently Hyperborea rpg. We usually play 10-12+ hours but take a long dinner break and some general catching up too, so figure 8-10 hours. We occasionally play HarnMaster (used to be our main system) and Top Secret SI. Those are usually for 3 or 4 weeks just to mix things up. In stead of switching systems a month and a half ago we stuck with Hyperborea and switched DMs so I am getting the rare chance to actually play for a while. I enjoy DMing but it has been a nice change.

D&D 5.24 and The One Ring are the things I'm currently running. I'm gearing up for Pendragon come August.

Wow, 10-12 hours. I wish I could do that even once a month :D
Are you playing Hyperborea RPG in the Hyperborea setting, or adapting other stuff for it? I have to admit one of the things which kinda made me hesitate was the absence of fantasy races - I know, I know, I just like my Fasntasy with Orcs in it.

Never played Harnmaster or Top Secret SI. How crunchy are they?

We were playing Hyperborea in the original setting with just humans. But, I made the reincarnation spell more available than raise dead so we eventually ended up with an abonimal snowman in the group LOL. The player loved it. The game that just started is a homebrew setting and the standard D&D races are allowed plus a few non-standard. But, of the 5 characters and 2 hirelings only 1 started out non-human. An Owling Purloiner actually. The owlings in this setting are halfling sized and don't have wings though. We now also have a Troglodyte (my Magician). Our first adventurer was B1 and the DM changed up the pools in the pool room and the one I drank from had me roll on the reincarnation table and when I woke up the next day I was a Troglodyte. Actually pretty fun to run so far, although I have had to hide outside of the town we are using as a base.

Sorry more things came up yesterday. I posted a response from Nesto...

As far as in person game, I am running an in person Arden Vul game using my modified OSE rules. We play every other week for 3 hours. I have a second group which is going to start meeting once a month to play 1e one shots (3 to 4 hours) with a rotating DM (at least that is plan...right now, I have run the first session and looking forward to another in July)

Damn, that sounds crazy :D
Where are you getting the inspiration for the mechanical bits and pieces for the different races and so forth? Using the usual 'Dwarves have +1 to Con and -1 to Cha' stuff?

Would you recommend it? I have never played Pendragon - what kind of system is it? It is d20 right?

I tried running a Keep on the Borderlands PbP game using BX/OSE but I don't think the players grokked it very much, coming from PF1e and all. Or maybe I could not get the simplicity and genius of it across. A shame really, since the plan was to play all the BX stuff with it, explore a bit of Mystara, so on and so forth. Oh well...

Back in the day I jumped from BECMI to AD&D1e, so I never really experienced much of AD&D. Been getting into it more recently and I know, I know some people badmouth it because it is 'hard' and 'unclear' and so on, but between it and OSRIC, man I love it. Just my in person group is VERY 'new-wave' 5e and World of Darkness focused. And I am not sure I can swing them around without taking up the DM mantle. But it has been so fun to just be a player :P

It uses a D20, but I'd actually more like BRP than D20. The basic mechanic is D20, roll under. Match the target for a crit. Most rolls are opposed.

I love it. It is very well tuned for the setting and Greg Stafford has done amazing work on the setting. It is pretty lightweight, and the bulk of the system is about traits and passions. It isn't a generic system, but for the purpose it is designed for it is great.

It is a system where your character occasionally plays you, so if you have any serious damage around losing control of your character probably skip it. Otherwise, strongly recommended.

The current edition is great, and largely backwards compatible. The Core book is complete for knights wandering around on quests, the GMs guide adds rules for battles, feasts, tournaments and a bestiary. There's a good starter box and the Grey Knight Adventure. The Grand Pendragon Campaign and the family and Dynasty rules aren't yet updated, but I'm using the 5.2 rules.
