Looks good, though did you roll really badly on your gold? I'd expect you should be able to afford chain mail at least.

Yep I rolled a 7 on the 3d6 :/
Couldn't we use the guidelines in DDX, for equipping characters above level 1? That would be cool.

Ouch. The tricky thing with using those guidelines is that it assumes new characters are adventurers delving in to places to find treasure. More realistically, your character got his first level up while doing one or more (3 year) tours of duty with the army. So he wouldn't be rolling in gold. Also, gold is far more precious in my campaign than DDX assumes, so I know that those guidelines make a lot of sense in my campaign anyway. That is something I'll need to figure when people get higher level.

On the bright side, we've already established that Kasper's magic chain mail can grow and shrink to fit the size of the wearer. He is close enough in size to Mordred that he can probably adjust Mordred's plate armor to fit him, and you can take his mail for now.

There's also the option of selling Mordred's sword, since none of you are proficient in Bastard Swords. That would bring in more than enough to get your character fully equipped (and possibly enough to get Kasper and/or Sebastian some weapon training since they'll be hitting level 3 as soon as you guys rest tonight).

Also, assuming your character served at least one tour in the military and saw combat, you might want to look at the Lore for military rankings: viewtopic.php?p=762187#p762187.

Basically, it sounds like your character is a Soldier, but they've been Blooded. Corvin, Mordred and Kasper on the other hand started the game as Trained, since they'd completed training but hadn't yet seen combat.

We've also got those gems from the Abbey to sell, and Corvin owes Kasper/Seb 25sp.

I'm sure we can sort something out.

Yeah I was not suggesting rolling around in gold. But being reasonably well equipped yes, even more so after three years in the military.
Doesn't matter either way. Regardless of anything else, for now he has a dagger, and the gear list is what he has stowed back at his village.
Agreed - I think I would like him to be a soldier. Blooded sounds good.

The model I'm following for the military is closer to the Roman Legions than a modern military. In the Roman Legions, soldiers were expected to provide their own equipment, it isn't provided by the state. So it's not actually unreasonable to imagine that a farmer who lived along the border (and thus was subject to relatively frequent raids) would be a fair bit poorer and thus unable to afford top of the line equipment. Metalworking is hard, and thus armor especially is expensive.

Treat this as a little bit of discovering-your-character-through-play. His village has been the subject of frequent raids, thus they're poor even by sustenance farmer standards and he's had to make due with what he can. Seems to fit really well with what we've seen of him so far.

Hey Kenjosephus, we might be able to retcon your bastard sword into a bastard sword+1! A PC on the other team died and isn't getting resurrected. He had a bastard sword+1. They're a fair bit farther back in the timeline, but should be getting back to Thorncity before your group is finished recovering from the aborted attempt to pass through the Bonefield, and both groups have some shared contacts. It's June 5th for the Corvin/Mordred-now-Jalko team, and the Luca/Troy/Canny team didn't leave Thorncity until the 22nd.

If all players involved are down with that, we can do the retcon now, and have a separate RP thread to play out the interaction, so we don't have to hold up either adventure. Maybe we can work out what, if anything, Troy/Luca/Canny's team might owe Corvin/Jalko's team here in the OOC thread, and then roleplay it once Corvin/Jalko are back in Thorncity as a separate thread.

Sounds good to me.

Corvin would want to be at the Grove for the solstice, but from the dates given I don't think that'll be an issue.

Sweet! AC2 (1 w/Shield)
Since Jalko doesn't have proficiency in shields, it would be 1 AC vs only one attack, and 2 AC vs the rest, but yes.

Yes. I figure Jalko's village can be half a day south along the Wall. Basically, the village they'll spend the night in on their way to the Monastery.

Alright, so you guys go ahead and figure out what, if anything Luca/Troy/Canny's team will owe Corvin/Jalko's team in this thread, and we'll roleplay it in character once Corvin/Jalko get to that point. Corvin will have been informed that Luca/Troy/Canny's team is doing work directly for the Princess.

(I am going to have far too much fun with the henchmen in this meet up...)

@archolewa

Corvin is going to have a private chat with Astrid on the way to Jalko's village, see what's up. I was thinking that you might want to put that in a separate thread.

Added two more small house rules: viewtopic.php?p=765384#p765384

One isn't really a houserule, so much as a convention. I just want to make clear on how I translate the variation in maximum HP between monsters of the same type into the fiction.

The other gives players a trade-off between targeting a specific creature to bring it down faster or whatever but increases risk of a wasted action, while the other means the character's action won't be wasted, but risks spreading out the team's damage (or other debilitating effects) more.

Quick question for Chary. Do you prefer if I only do ooc as ooc and not the entire post in red to reduce the strain on your eyes?
Similar, I can keep using '' to indicate a spoken sentence is starting or ending, as the blue color probably isn't working for you, right? /ooc
{Charybdis}

Okay, cool. There is an OOC thread, so I don't have to clutter the game thread.

Yes, the red lettering really hurts my eyes. I don't know why. It just does. Maybe that will change after my surgery... (I can hope, right?) So, yeah, the less red you can use is better... but this is not my game, so, I wasn't going to make a fuss.

The blue color doesn't bother me. It doesn't hurt. Honestly, though, most of the time I cannot distinguish it from the black. I like actual quotation marks more for my logs than for the thread. When I cut and paste the posts into my logs, all formatting gets stripped. And I always keep separate logs. They are much easier to search than the forums. (If anyone would like the link, let me know. Obviously, it will just start when I joined, but if you would like a copy with minor editing and mechanics stripped out, let me know, and I will post you the link.
