Randall and Anker

Randall and Anker likewise will need more rations, they aren't set up for a wilderness trek.

Hektor

Nods his thanks to Carly, and goes off with the group in search of a general store or a provisioner - he will ask around.

Ingulfr

Ingulfr has 5 days standard rations, 2gp, 7sp, and 5cp.

Ulfr has 3 days trail rations, 7sp, and 5cp.

Any help would be appreciated, willing to give up some of Ingulfr's initial treasure to pay it back.

The group finds a marketplace hawking wares clearly targeted at those venturing into the Wilderness of Rappan Athuk, ranging from rations to rope, to iron spikes and hammers to promises to carry final farewells to loved ones.

Hektor gets to work haggling with and exploring some of the food vendors. Reaction roll: 1d100+30 = 31 The vendors prove to be rather savvy and cutthroat, well aware of how desperate most folks must be to venture that close to Rappan Athuk. Still, nobody wants to piss off a paladin of Muir, and he is able to knock a gold piece off of prices for trail rations, and a few silver off of fresh rations.

People can buy rations at the following prices:
Fresh rations: 16 silver
Trail Rations: 5 gp

Hektor also spends a bit of time asking around for any local merchant caravans who might be heading north, and wouldn't mind having several additional warriors along for the first few days. Reaction roll: 1d100+30 = 106! As soon as people find out that a Paladin of Muir, Priest of Odin, and a Magic-User are looking to accompany a merchant caravan, they get swarmed with offers.

He manages to narrow the best offers down to the following:

1. One caravan offers to feed them so long as they travel with them, and they have no need to stand watch ensures the group will be well-rested enough to get a bonus (+1 on a d20, +5 on a d100) during the trip to Zelkor's Ferry However, the group will be expected to be out front of the caravan while traveling during the day, which might make them more obvious targets.

2. One caravan offers to feed them and pay each of them 4gp a day, but they are expected to serve watch rotations at night.

3. One caravan offers them 8 gp a day, but they are expected to serve as watch rotations, and lead the vanguard of the caravan.

Ingulfr

I like option 2. We should keep a watch of our own anyways and it gives us some gp to pay for supplies etc. Thoughts?

Agree. Then we don’t have to worry about stocking up on rations as well. :)
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Randall and Anker

Randall and Anker like option 2 also.
They will try to get to know the seedier elements of the caravan during the trip and will suggest they supplement watches of others with their infravision.

Hektor has no issues with being the vanguard of a caravan, but he values his companion's opinion, so they quickly agree on the second option.

He buys two days' rations for Ingulfr and four for Ulfr, spending a total of nine gold and six silver (that should put both at 7days of rations)

Since we are not loading so much on rations, I guess we skip the mule for now? And we should be ready to go, right?
@archolewa, are we being paid daily?

Ingulfr

I think skipping the mule is a good idea. The only real advantage to buying one is we could spend a day to butcher it for rations when we head into the dungeon.

You'll be paid in one lump sum when you go separate ways. Sounds like you're going with option 2 then?

Adventure continues in The Wilderness: viewtopic.php?t=14459. Going to keep this thread unlocked, since we'll use it for future trips to Hope's Rest.
