I haven’t downloaded the rules. Can you give a quick summary, or should I look at the rules? I’m thinking a cleric. If we play a second PC, a druid or thief.

You should look at the rules. They're pay-if-you-like-them.

So I downloaded the rules, which is a set of 21 two-page-modules. They each have a page of the simple core rules, with variations based on module. Am I missing something there? There’s no mention of magic, being a sci-fi game, or equipment, so are you winging it there?

some GM edits to align character sheets to rules

Look for the 2400 Legend rules specifically, which are 100% about high fantasy magic stuff. Four pages: cover, core rules + char gen + spell list, GM stuff.

I think that you can boost a skillset (Str, Rsn, Spd, or Prs) by one die size, as you didn't take any of the beneficial heritage characteristics. JoaT covers Rsn + Prs so I'd suggest boosting Str or Spd.

I didn't see anything on beneficial heritage- as in classic fantasy races? If not Ill put it in Speed.
