Melor asks, Anything dangerous out there we should avoid, besides the obvious?

I think we definitely set a watch tonight but otherwise, I am done asking questions and ready to move on to the next day.

Howarth and Dirk ate food and made small talk with their hosts. Hog tried to judge their character, if they could be trusted.

Aye, we should keep a watch, said Dirk.

Who today is carrying the gold and black-iron urn that holds the Prince's ashes?

You set out in a misty, sunless morning through grey reeds. The vagrants assure you that if you head "that way" there is an old road — "youz can feel the cobbles with your feet" — toward the eastern mountains.

I think whoever had the urn before will continue to carry it.

Can we use another roller and post the link? I've been using Orokos for my games.

The morning passes uneventful. You seem to be getting to less wet ground.

Then Dirk steps on a rock that moves under his foot before suddenly thrashing into its true form: alligator just awoken.

You are in battle with an alligator. It is nine feet long, thick-skinned, hungry, strong-jawed, fast, and really pissed off because Dirk just trampled its foot.

What do you do?

Melor gets behind the alligator and grapples with it, looking to flip it over so Dirk can stab it in its unprotected belly.

Cristan watches the battle closely, but will not act.

I can put it to sleep, he yells helpfully.

The risk of Melor's action, worst case, is getting bitten and shaken. He has light armor, which might protect against injury. The reward would be a d6 roll to help Dirk's attack if Dirk makes one.

If these make sense to you please roll Strength.

Whoa! cried Dirk as the gator thrashed. The dervish drew his scimitar to hack at the creature, careful to not hit the wrastlin Melan.

Hogarth readied a prayer.

Melor deftly maneuvers behind the alligator and flips it over before it can react.

STR vs alligator: 1d8 8

D6 to assist Dirk: 1d6 4

Now could we please get a speed roll for Dirk? The worst case, as you signposted, would be that he hits Melan. Armor might mitigate that. However, the d6=4 that Melan rolled to help says that worst case won't happen anyway. So either he severely injures the gator (4 or less) or outright kills it (5+)

Dirk hacked at the alligator with his scimitar, blood and swamp water splattering about.

Str. - alligator attack: 1d10 1

Strength is used for melee attack?

I thought speed and precision were more appropriate bc you're trying to hit the gator while it's thrashing around with Melan grappling it.

Dirk's scimitar gashes the gator's belly. Blood spurts. The great beast thrashes and bucks Melan off its back into the shallow water. It's seriously wounded and even angrier than before, but its injury makes it move hesitantly as it tries to retaliate.

Any roll other than a 1-2 will finish it. On 1-2 somebody gets a death bite.

Cristan calls for the others to back off so she can finish the gator safely from a distance with his bow.

Melor backs off.

no interesting risk here

Everyone gives space for a deadly shot from Cristan. The bowstring thrums and the arrow hisses through the air to thunk into the gators eye.

What do you do next?

Melor pulls out a knife and cuts open the gator's guts.

In the process, he observes the animal's hide to see if it's intact and worth recovering.

Let's see if it's eaten anything interesting.

The gator's skin is mostly intact and would be valuable if you had a good way to cure it. Possibly bringing it back to the temple way station would gain you good favor and even some coin, but that would be a reversal of your course.

Alligator stomach juice is potent, and dissolves organic things including bones. But at some point the alligator must have eaten someone's arm, because there is a pair of interlinked golden bracelets in its stomach. They look about man-size, slightly chunky. Nothing else of interest.
