Let me know if you'd like anything changed/doesn't fit Thorin's character, but I think you'd be pretty at home in the Temple.Thorin's Connection to the Temple wrote: It is only natural that Thorin would develop an interest in the temple, after all, the school is also within and he would of spent alot of time during childhood there. When he took to his apprenticeship, his strength was noted. When not studying or in prayer, he was often asked to assist Sister Ruth, a kindly meek lady with many wonderful tales of strange plants to tell, but frail in her old age. Often, he would be asked to run items up from the cellars. Sometimes, Thorin would receive the honour of assisting the Paladin Lady Constance's Squires, when the powerful healer made pilgrimage to Ragged Hollow to check on the temple. He didn't get to spend much time with the masked figure of renown herself, but her clerical power was greatly welcome in the village, and occasionally she would hold mass with the Brother Fillius, the Chaplain.
Sometimes, if Sister Ruth was busy in the gardens, Thorin would be tasked with carrying books for Brother Barbaby. A talkative man, his softly spoken voice would often cause one to strain to hear him, only to find out he was exploring random topics that he had recently had the pleasure of reading about. It could be back-breaking work, but at least the library was a quiet place compared to the school.

Kailu has a memory to share about Thorin while out on Halloo. Camping out one night after a long and cold day of rain, Kailu noticed some bubbles coming to the surface of the nearby muddy creek. She sharpened a stick, jumped in and tried to spear whatever fish was there. However, it was way too big and pulled Kailu under the water. Luckily, Thorin helped fish her out and they enjoyed the fish roasted. It was one of Kailu's best meals during Halloo.
Is that ok with you, Edelhur?
As for challenge 2, I pictured Kailu growing up between the houses of various relatives and acquaintances, without much supervision. I think she maybe has a connection (friendship or far relative?) to someone at the fishing hut who showed her a thing or two about the craft and would often share a part of their catch with her.

Continuing with the randomizing
While Moss was reaching the end of his haloo he got in a little money trouble one night unable to pay the bill at a tavern. Emotions escalated, town guards were called, but before he was taken off to the jail Nob jumped in and was able to use his silver tongue to simultaneously keep Moss from losing his shit and slide a few coins to the guards to keep Moss out of prison for a few nights.
For his connection I rolled for the Inventor. Perhaps he did a job a while back to bring in some supplies and got curious about the work being done. He kept coming by and tinkering around serving as an informal apprentice for some time. He didn't get paid much but didn't really mind since he enjoyed the work.
I figure that aligns a little the high intelligence, let me know how all that sounds.

Re: Character Creation
One of the fondest and most exciting memories Nob has about his youth is that time he and Moss stumbled upon a badly hidden stash of raspberry moonshine. It was just lying there under a pile of leaves in the woods. It objectively tasted foul but the excitement made them still finish the whole jug.
For the connection this is my roll:
I suppose Nob could have been adopted by the store owner/owners? Or maybe something looser, maybe Nob worked for the store as a sort of delivery boy, making deliveries for the shop's regulars, like the farmers and the inn (clearly Nob's favorite place in town)

Re: Character Creation
Kailu spent many a jaunt down by the cold banks of the Rime River, watching the ice float downstream and the fishing boats paddle to moor themselves against hidden stumps and rocks. Most kids weren't allowed out this far North, but Kailu had a way of slipping out when she wanted. She wondered about the howling wind that protected the old island to the north, and watched as its once manicured gardens descended into overgrowth and mystery.thefakesimone wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 11:20 pm As for challenge 2, I pictured Kailu growing up between the houses of various relatives and acquaintances, without much supervision. You spent alot of time with Great Uncle Jesse, which is what every young'n in town calls him, though you were told you shared a distant relation with him. A burly bloke with fisherman's tattoos, when not down the tavern he could often be caught out on the river, wrapped up in thick woolens. He always had a hot drink for you if you joined him, usually something berry based, and he taught Kailu to skip rocks on the water, and warned her not to go swimming outside of summer. The tides would often trick folk to feel warm enough when wading, but bite you on the shore. Despite being a brash sort, Jesse would always visit the Temple bi-weeky to ward off his 'fisherman's superstitions', though he seldom talked about them. One cold winter he and his wife Martine took in a ward named Flutine, a girl a little older then you. Supposedly something foul had befallen her family, and Jesse was her last living relative. A nice enough lass, but even in her youth she shared Jesse's perchance for superstition, and turned out devotely pious. She completed her Halloo this last year passed.
Moss remembers one cold night when the snow was thick and no one wanted to go out to finish the last delivery. He took it upon himself to complete the job, and found himself in a part of town he hadn't frequented before. A man in a tidy grey suit, who identified himself as Andrew, swept him inside to his Master's study, where he met the enigmatic Samson, genius inventor, who was always tinkering with something.levy518 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 1:08 am For his connection I rolled for the Inventor. "Hand me that spanner, boy- no, the other one-" was the first thing he said to you, not even glancing at the delivery, and Moss found himself swept up into a world of creation and blueprints. The house was heated with pipes that spewed steam, and there was always something to do. Samson seemed more then happy to have an extra pair of hands, although perhaps dour was a better description of the emancipated inventor. Occasionally he would call you his son's name, Reginald, in his abscent-minded state. You often got the feeling he wasn't entirely in his right mind, but he taught you much. The man was an insomniac, and would only allow you entry at night, but Andrew kept you company on days when Samson had given you a particularly onerous task. It seemed sometimes Samson forgot you were young, but Moss sometimes found it enjoyable that Sanson talked to him like an equal. One day he even let you keep his ingenius ticking can, an inoculous thing that could explode if thrown or dropped. Moss had a good time experimenting with it until it finally ticked it's last kaboom.
Growing up inside the General Store meant you knew all the best gossip. Micah was in her early thirties when she adopted Nob, though she'd affectionally call him Greasy-Hands on the occasion where he would assist with the store goods when he was particularly young. She was an optimistic kind of woman, short-sighted but of good humour, and ensured Nob got his exercise in running too and fro across town. Perhaps it was her way of keeping him developing a fascination with the Lost Ox Inn, known haunt of the infamous Bogdan Crew. She suspected them of banditry and made sure Nob knew it, but it didn't stop him spending an occasional longer evening after a late delivery, sitting around the fire and spectating their card games as a teen. He even picked up Skull n Bones, and was fascinated by the brute Castor's tattoo, imprinted on the back of his own head to look like his face. But despite his grisly appearance Nob caught him once or twice, feeding stray kittens round the back of the Inn.freddy3loader wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 10:06 am I suppose Nob could have been adopted by the store owner/owners? Nob heard lots of stories growing up. His favourite was the stories of the Goblin markets, deep in the Gloam Woods. People tried to convince him that they ate wicked children, but he wasn't fully convinced by that. Just before Nob left on his Halloo, his mother Micah was in talks with an affluent Merchant from the Kingdom.
Let me know if you'd like anything tweaked about your NPC/Ragged Hollow links!
I'm really enjoying these memories xD
Re: Character Creation
You are free to post in the thread. You can ask questions at the end of your post or clarify information in the OOC. Your character obviously knows alot more about Ragged Hollow then you do, so feel free to ask if there are things you'd like more info on.

Scree - What do you want me to do about the two challenges? I'm assuming challenge 2 is the same, what about challenge one?
