Chapter 2: Bone Biter Returns to the Needle (Bone Biter & Tears in the Rain)

Bone Biter searches his room and finds enough spare change to pay for the Metro. He checks his gear and then walks to the bus stop. At this time of night, service is really slow. The bus will only come once an hour. He really hopes that it will arrive sooner rather than later. The trip itself won’t take long, but time is eaten up with the waiting.

Tears in the Rain

Listens with interest to the multiple conversation threads. Lots buzz in her head but within the group, wiser heads for planning dynamics exist. Her base 'Shadowrunning' experience has been 'robin-hooding' the rich to feed the poor (and herself) and exercising her 'social justice' on those street brutes and corp executives that bully and control others.

"Hmmm ..." Bone Biter being both picked and pocketed is unusual. She wonders if that was just a random act or a more targeted provocation.

If she still has access to the bike she used earlier, she will turn up at the bus stop and offer BB to ride shotgun. Otherwise she will catch the bus too.

Tears in the Rain had borrowed Rev’s bike since he was riding along with those who rented a car for the meet at the Eye of the Needle. Now, though, Revs is off to the Comet’s Tail on his bike. So, Tears catches up with Bone Biter, and the two of them wait about half an hour for the next bus. They travel about 10 minutes and then need to transfer to the rail line that goes to that section of town. At other places in the city it rises to become an elevated rail or drops into a subway, but here, the light rail is on ground level.

This late at night, the bus is fairly empty; the train holds a few more people, but still when they reach the Metro Station nearest to the Space Need, they are the only ones to exit the train. Disembarking at the station, Bone Biter and Tears in the Rain step into comparative quiet.

Skye

Skye appears back at the Needle metro station in her astral form. She wanders around a bit waiting for Bone Biter to arrive on his bus, just getting a lay of the station. Unfortunately she can't read the numbers on the lockers while in the astral, but she can at least see where the banks of lockers are.

When she sees Biter and Tez, she manifests next to them. "See? I heard you. Let's go see what's in that locker. Maybe it's the treasure of the Sierra Madre!" she says, referencing a very old 2d movie based on an even older book.

Scoping the area out from the Astral, Skye sees pretty much the same scene as Bone Biter and Tears in the Rain. The station is nearly empty. A few weary looking people wait for the next train. Nothing stands out as dangerous.

Skye does note a couple of street kids at the bench farthest west in the station, right before the train would exit from that direction. One, a 8? 9? 10? year-old, Sioux girl with long braids wearing torn denim shorts and a dirty beaded tank top, lays stretched about across the bench, sleeping. It takes a second to spot the other since Skye can’t see through the Sioux girl’s aura to see the one below, but then the kid below shifts, and Skye realizes that the other is Daisy, sleeping on the concrete under the bench.

Bone shows Tears the number on the key and tells her, "You check that side, and I will look into this area. The first one is to find the locker and let the other one know. Skye, please act as a lookout for anyone in the area."

Bone starts looking for the locker that matches the number on the key.

Bone Biter and Tears have no trouble finding the locker. The number on the key reads, “350.” The lockers are organized in groups of 50 – 10 rows across and 5 rows high. In under 5 minutes, Tears finds locker 350.

Skye

Skye continues looking out, while making a mental note that G.H. is extorting and terrorizing these kids and not even giving them basic shelter.

Bone Biter and Tears have no trouble finding the locker. The number on the key reads “350.” The lockers are organized in groups of 50 – 10 rows across and 5 rows high. In under 5 minutes, Tears finds locker 350.

Bone finishes looking for the locker before finding Tears, "You find the locker yet?" he askes her.

Opens the locker ...

Taking the key from Bone Biter before he has a chance to object, Tears in the Rain inserts it into the keyhole and turns it. The key sticks in the lock a little; the lock could definitely use some WD-40 or something. Once Tears has opened the door of the locker, she sees a well-worn men’s wallet. Bone Biter recognizes it as his.

Bone looks inside the locker before reaching into it. Then, on an impulse, Bone reaches in and takes the wallet.

Looking into the wallet, he knows the small amount of cash is gone, but he wants to ensure the pack of ashes is still inside the hidden compartment.

He looks to Tears and says, "Thanks for the assist." He then checks to see if his SIN/Credstick is also there.

Looking at his wallet, Bone Biter first notices that the faux leather has been carefully polished, looking better than it has in years. All of the cash is gone, naturally. But the ashes remain. However, Bone Biter can tell someone has been in that section of wallet because the packet has been moved slightly. Carefully looking through the wallet, Bone Biter finds all of his personal items – photographs, notes, etc. remain. The only item missing other than the cash is his pack of condoms.

The SINstick is not in the locker.

He looks at Tears and asks, "Are you ready to return before we are late? I don't trust the bus system to get us back in time. We do not need to be late."

[Gremlin]

Skye

"Everything copacetic here, Biter?" Skye asks. "I can zip back and let Headstone know you're on your way back."

[Stirling]

Tears in the Rain

If we are done here and no one is about watching us. We don't need interrupt Daisy and aide her, however much we prefer to bash in cho-mo's, dwarven and otherwise. Other pressing matters first.

"Sure, let's go".

Tears and Bone return the way we came. Crossing the digits that we make it back in time.

Bone thinks, "Weird Mudge was able to lift the items and plant the key simultaneously. Normally, one would need the key to open the locker, put the items inside, and later plant the key. Something is not adding up!"

Having searched for just under twenty minutes, Bone Biter and Tears in the Rain wait for the next train back home. They have to wait a little longer this time – almost forty minutes. Taking the train, switching to the bus, and then walking from the stop to headquarters takes roughly another twenty minutes. They arrive back home just under two hours and a half from when they left. Pandora has about another hour on her timer.
