Frank shrugs and says as he traces a circle in the dirt with his foot, "Or we could just go all the way around the city and see what the other side looks like? I honestly don't care, but I think we probably need to make a decision before anybody comes out looking for those Goblins we killed. Unless that's your plan. To let another bunch come out and ambush them? Whittle them down a bit, huh?"

"You know, the fletching on those Gobbo arrows you picked up, Linder, are pretty distinctive." says Frank as he fingers one of the said arrows and adds with a grin, "I wonder how the Orcs would react if they found a few of their fellows with Gobbo arrows in them? Think that might put a strain on their alliance?"

"Just a thought for down the road."

With the decision made not to blow open the gate with her Thunderwave, Hellebore tells her owl to give up its perch and get clear of the orcs. She then circles back to scout the wall ahead of the party to look for an ambush or good ingress point.

OOC: At this point, I've been waiting for y'all to decide what to do and start doing it. Along the wall left (north-ish) or right (south-ish) seems to be the consensus, rather than blast the the barricade at the gate. But, don't worry, I'm sure you'll get a chance to blast something soon because...

JFYI, I might have been rolling after every one of your posts while you make up your minds which direction to go. It only takes (er, took) one nat 20 for an event to take place.

Hellebore's owl (did we ever name it?) has been fliting quietly along the treeline along the ruined walls of the city for the last few minutes while the party has been discussing what to do next. It went south, first, then looped back and then turned back and flew north.

Hellebore, who has been only paying half attention to both the conversation and the owl's senses blinks, then focuses on the owl's view. It lands in the upper branches of a tree and looks down on a ramp of loose stone that goes through the city walls and disappears inside into what looks like a plaza. The owl sees a number of Goblins go through the gap in the wall and come down the ramp into the narrow grassy verge between the forest and the walls. Owls aren't good at counting...to an owl there's one, two, a fluffle, and a mischief...this is a mischief!...of Goblins. If Hellebore fully concentrates on her owl she can learn more, but she's going to go "mentally walk-about" while she does.

Oh candlestubs..." Hellebore curses, pointing north. "The next goblin patrol just crossed out of the wall. Prepare to ambush the ambushers or decide to scoot south. I will keep an eye for a bit..." She takes hold of Carsta's belt as her eyes go hazy so she can be led.

OOC: Okay, Hellebore goes "out of body" for a bit...

Her eyes clear and she sees 10 Goblins lead by a Hobgoblin forming a marching order just outside the gap in the walls. Eight of the Goblins are armed with a short bow and a spear and has something over their shoulders...blankets is what it looks like, but you can't be sure. The Hobgoblin has a sword at its belt and is attended by a pair of Goblins who are carrying a litter between them with what looks like bread, cheese and what look like a pile of dead rats on it. She feels her stomach rumble...it's all she can do to resist trying to swoop down and grab one of those rats!

She watches the formation move away from the walls into the forest. Turning "her" head she sees them through the foliage moving along a narrow path that should take them well north of where the party is now. Remembering the map she thinks they are moving along the line on it and if they stay on it will cross the old road you are on several hundred yards behind you back toward where the first ambush was set up.

Hellebore relays all that to the others. Nobody the Owl stays on the perch to watch the gap in the wall with instructions to mentally notify her if more show up.

Hellebore whispers aside to Zennys. "Everyone else said north. "

"I said north to avoid being pinned against the shore if things go wrong," Carsta says. "Do you have a reason for us to go that way, anyway?"

"I think with a patrol coming close by us we are past that discussion. Time to act. I say we get ready and ambush the patrol."

Zennys will look for a good hiding place close to where we are anticipating the patrol coming by.

[Carsta finds a place to hide form the patrol where she can still use her crossbow. She takes it out and readies it.

Hellebore makes sure the group actually forms-up on the right path via Nobody's surveillance.

She relies on her natural hobbit stealth (and Nobody's help looking from the outside) to find a hiding spot at the front of the group, paired with a frontline fighter.
"Let me burn them all first, then you can wade in to finish them off," she says.
