Combat Rules

#1 Post by archolewa »

We won't be using Dark Dungeon X's standard action declaration phase, where players decide whether to declare before or after the monsters, with a commensurate bonus/penalty to initiative. Too much back and forth for a play-by-post. Instead, I'll declare the actions of monsters (including NPC's on the player's side), and then players will get to declare. Players will get neither a bonus nor penalty to initiative (though Dex bonus still applies of course). Then we'll roll initiative and execute everyone's actions.

If you want to roll for your actions, feel free to as part of your action declaration. However, please put the roll results in spoilers so that they aren't staring any other players in the face, since technically everyone should be declaring before any dice are thrown. If you decide to roll your own dice, I will need:

1. Your initiative.
2. Your attack roll and damage if applicable.
3. A saving throw if applicable. I will specify in the monster action declaration what saving throws might be needed, if any.

If you're doing something that isn't obviously covered by the rules, go ahead and roll a d20. I will decide what stat check makes the most sense and apply bonuses accordingly. If you're going to do something that seems REALLY risky, and your character would probably recognize it as such, I will ask for confirmation in a follow-up post before resolving anything.

Obviously, I'm counting on everyone's sense of fair play here.
