Raquinel stumbles along, a little disoriented, keeping behind the more combat ready party members

Bjorn moves along with the party, studying some marking on her mace that she had not noticed before.

Ianin, magic-user

Seeing the party moving out, Ianin hastens to catch up with them.

Sensing something is up in the West corridor, the rest of the group joins the others. Andover the ranger seems intent on the pools still.

Honnilee relays what she saw - a mishapen cloaked form go in the second door on the right, 70' down the corridor. At 30' is another door. Idwellin voices warning. It is quiet at the moment. Shen's torchlight flickers, casting shadows down the hall.

Shen, monk

Shen follows towards the misshapen cloaked form, moving slowly and fearful of traps.

Shen the monk moves forward silently down the hall toward the door the cloaked form went in. He checks for traps as he proceeds. The rest of the group remains at the corner. Shen reaches the door safely and listens. He hears nothing. Then he searches for traps and locks. He finds no traps but realizes the door is locked.

I interpreted character positions literally. Let me know if anyone is with Shen at the door now. I can assume marching order positions going forward if you'd prefer that.

"We need a rearguard, and a door party," Idwillen says. "Andover, Poltux, each pick an end. Flint, Ianin, and Honilee, float in the middle. Bjornhild, ... heh ... pick a fighter friend, I'll stay with the other."

Andover readies his bow and points it at the door, ready to fire if something nasty is revealed when it opens.

Andover, Idwellin and Shen move to the far door. Poltux and Bjorn move to closer door. Flint, Ianin, Raquinel and Honnilee stay in the middle. The far door is locked. While the monk has some roguish skills, pick lock is not among them. Brute force can be applied, or the hobbit can try picking the lock.

Shen, monk

Shen motions to the door with an "open the lock please" motion, trying to remain silent but get his point across to his halfling companion.

Honnilee quickly, silently complies, her deft fingers finding her tools without taking her gaze from the lock.

With plate-armored Shen and bow-drawn Andover looking over her, the dextrous fingers of Honnilee the hobbit dance about the lock, trying to seduce it open.

Suddenly the door whips inward. Honnilee looks up to see a great axe swinging down upon her head. Its wielder is a mongrel of monsters - part ogre, orc, and bugbear. She sees others behind it.

And bursting forth from the south door upon Poltux the fighter and Bjorn the cleric are more. Two of the creatures are in the corridor upon the adventurers. One snaps a large lobster-like appendage at Bjorn, while the other has a hook horror arm that gouges at Poltux's face.

Does Andover have a clear shot with his bow? If not, how long does it take to switch weapons?

Yes, the hobbit is picking the lock and you can shoot over his head, point blank. Assuming melee ensues, you probably couldn't get the second arrow off though. The hallway, like the others, is 10' wide.

Andover releases the arrow he had nocked and drawn in his bow, then draws his sword.

Poltux, half-orc fighter (ac 1, hp 20/20)

Poltux suddenly at melee with a thing, drops his whip, unslings his shield and takes a swipe at it with his axe.

Poltux Axe Melee THAC020 (non-proficient): to hit [1d20] = 18+2, damage [1d6] = 6+3 | [1d8] = 8+3 hits ac 0, does not include magic bonus, if any, to damage

Ianin, magic-user

Ianin, seeing his companions suddenly embroiled in melee with monsters in their midst, steps forward and touches the nearest with his ring of shocking grasp.

Ianin Ring of Shocking Grasp THAC1 20: to hit, [1d20] = 20, damage [1d8+6] = 5+6 = 11 does a ring of shocking grasp do double damage on a natural 20?

Idwillen raises his shield, and jabs his spear at the misshapen creature before him. Clearly, it's no product of the natural balance.
