Whoops! Looks like I snoozed and just missed out. The Micro-Trader is lifting into orbit without me!
atpollard, would you consider a waiting list?

I hadn't thought about it, but sure ... you are first on the waiting list.

Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [closed]
Thank you kindly!
I can get a character ready in the meantime, unless you'd prefer I roll it up fresh, if and when I join the game.
Also, I'm curious if you are already familiar with this character generator, or the simpler one that preceded it: https://www.batintheattic.com/traveller/
I find it to be a great resource!
Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [WAITING LIST]
Hello!
I saw this thread as I was considering posting an interest check for an Old School Traveller game. I ran one campaign that fizzled out (I think I got creative burnout) so was thinking about trying again with a some brand new Travellers (new or want to learn "old" Traveller.)
I usually referee but am having fun in a couple of games as a player, one Traveller and one D&D.
Please consider me if you get to the wait list. I'm very much LBB Traveller. I have played the Mongoose ruleset but found I prefer the more fluid and rules light gameplay of OG Traveller books 1-3 from '77 or 81. I looked at T-5 rules just for fun and my head exploded
Cheers!

Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [WAITING LIST]
Hi! I've only seen a sample of T5, but got the same impression as you. Sadly despite Marc Miller being involved, it's much too cumbersome to attract either old fans or new gamers. From what I've seen of online RPG circles, CT(81) and MgT2 Mongoose Traveller 2e seem to be the most popular editions by far.
Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [WAITING LIST]
If and when a future position opens up, I’d like to get the line/queue for consideration to join!! I love CT and MT1. Everything else hurts my head!
BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [RECRUITING]
Welcome to the planet BEAU.
Everyone arrives at Montsoleil DownPort where an extensive Civil Service Bureaucracy greets each person with an extensive array of both QUESTIONS about you and INFORMATION for you. At Law Level 7 (all firearms prohibited) there is no shortage of Government Regulation. You pass through the enclosed community (5000 people hardly qualifies for the term ‘City’) enjoying the filtered air and perfect climate-controlled temperature and humidity. Lots of “tourist” shops line the commercial walkway and the view through the windows of the vista seen from your mountaintop position is breathtaking.
You stop at an exit door. Large red letters warn of the deadly atmospheric contaminants and the need for “Approved” filter masks for all activities outside the safety of the Controlled Environment. Beau was a small world and the half standard Gravity gave you an extra bounce in your step as you wandered along. You smiled at the warning … you had read about the “dangerous” atmosphere … a thin atmosphere with high ozone levels from an energetic sun. All you needed was a simple carbon filter. You checked the mask you had purchased before arriving and the extra cartridges – you were set for a couple months before you needed to buy some new filters.
Outside the Arcology that housed the population, you glanced at the factories that maintained the TL 11 infrastructure for the 70 thousand inhabitants of this little Backwater world in the Blue World Confederation … a cluster of flames fighting against an ocean of darkness at the crossing of two trade routes.
You were not here for sightseeing. You were not here for trade. Glancing down at your COMM, you reread the strange message from an old friend. They were never one given to exaggeration, so when they said that something strange was going on and you should get to Beau as quickly as possible … that stirred your curiosity. When they mentioned an old fairy-tale about people with magic powers, you HAD to see for yourself.
Now where the hell was this “Colony” place? The Data Banks were useless. Asking around, one of the Grav Shuttle pilots was able to offer an answer.
“So you’re one of them.” the pilot said, rolling his eyes “The Colony is what those crazy locals call 'District 0 at Brulantfort' … a little piece of s… er, well, just take the shuttle to Brulantfort and you can see for yourself.”
The Planetary Data Net did have information on Brulantfort … a city of 10,000 … and information on shuttle flights from Montsoleil to Brulantfort.
Well, it looks like you are going to see this Colony for yourself and find out what the heck is going on that he couldn’t talk about on an unencrypted comm.

Welcome to BACKWATER.

The story so far:
A small group arrived in Brulantfort, on BEAU having all just left their old life. Desperate to earn money to get a ship to get back into space, they accepted a job offer to repair a COMM STATION located deep in the Arctic. The repair team from the Corporation that owned the station disappeared without a trace, leaving behind only a large blood stain on the ground. One of the multi-tonne Mega-Predators was the suspected cause, but no company people would take the job. So the Corporation offered a 1 Million Credit Prize to the first team to restore communications between the COMM TOWER and its Sattelite. The group flew to an arctic village, purchased weapons, rented a crawler, and hired a guide, then headed to the Comm Tower.
The repair involved surviving a blizzard, Critical Nuclear Reactor, rewiring Emergency power, an Arctic Wolf Pack, the lair of an Arctic Bear, locating a missing crewman, recovering a critical part, avoiding a gunfight with competing teams and getting back to civilization alive. Oh yeah, they met a Psion hiding out in a Survivalist Community hidden in the Arctic.
Just your typical PATRON JOB and an easy MegaCredits.
So anyone interested … we have a few openings for some new players [that darn REAL LIFE claimed some players.]

Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [Looking for Players]
I am interested, it appears you might need a people person, a ship guy or hacker. I'm flexible if you are still recruiting.
Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [Looking for Players]
Well, I think we are certainly down a ships pilot.
Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [Looking for Players]
Easiest point first:
Welcome aboard ateno, and yes - we are still recruiting.
Important point for anyone interested:
Most of the adventure in this game will be the adventures between jump. I can, will and do tailor the events that unfold to the skills and interests and decisions of the Characters involved. That means, it is of trivial importance to me that the crew have a PILOT and NAVIGATOR and GUNNER and ENGINEER … if necessary, the ship will fly itself or be crewed entirely by RED SHIRTS. Play a character that is INTERESTING to YOU. There is SOMETHING in this BACKWATER corner of space that will catch your interest.
As an example, the last ADVENTURE [“Million Credit Comm Job”] involved the ELEC-2 skill of one of the PCs to repair a COMM station in the Arctic. The actual adventure employed VEHICLE skills (flying and tracked), GUN CBT skills, SURVIVAL skills, MECHANICAL skills, ENGINEERING and COMPUTER skills, and I think even ADMIN skill from members of the group. The group doesn’t even HAVE a starship yet (they are working on that).
So WHOEVER you are (Classic Traveller Book 1 or Citizens of the Imperium … or PM me if you have something else in mind), there will be an adventure with your name written on it [and some surprises along the way].

Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [Looking for Players]
For those who have never played Traveller, atpollard runs a great game and makes the rules super easy to understand. He also builds very rich settings, so I encourage you to jump in!
Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [Looking for Players]
I would be happy to give it a try. I will be happy to attempt to fill whatever hold you need especially pilot or engineer.
Re: BACKWATER [Classic Traveller] [Looking for Players]
Welcome aboard.
If all went well, I added you to the game.
(I am a little rusty at that part).

We have a little room left if anyone is interested in a CLASSIC TRAVELLER game focused on ...
- Adventures (over Starship Operations)
- Encounters (over Freight and Mortgages)
- Psionics (play a significant part in this game at the request of the first players)

Hello, i'm new to Classic Traveller, but am interested in playing one because of a blogpost by Mythic Mountain Musings. Are you still open to new players?
