Not really sure what to say Brett. Sorry I suppose works. Congrats on the degree but sorry that you have to deal with going through a divorce.

Honestly, I am doing pretty good financially, just trying to get myself squared on everything else. It is hard not knowing what is going on one week or another. I hate not being able to have a plan or know where I will be living almost week to week.

Enough of us have been on here for so long we all know each other well enough that yes you might as well call us relatives.

I promise things are getting better I honestly just need to get my motivation back. I am going to try by starting with this bit of news: So my son started in DeMolay this last April, so almost a year now. It has really been cool watching him learn and grow since it is a youth-run organization. I have since brought in one of my students, who brought in (with a bit of my own nudging) another of my students who really needed something like this, and last month, the three of them without any prompting from me said "We want to have a D&D party to recruit new members".

Everyone was blown away because this was a 100% new idea for the group. Within moments I was nominated to be the DM (because of course I was) and we were figuring out venues and everything. The little shits made the motion, voted, and passed it. Well, tomorrow afternoon, it is happening. So far we have 5 official characters submitted for a 5e game (god help me) and they will be helping a young noble who just inherited his estate check on the old family crypt because he thought he heard noises.. besides... it's dark down there. Light some torches or something... In trade he is going to pay their fines so they don't do jail time as a kind of community service. Little to do they know, he isnt that much of a chicken shit after all. There ARE noises down there. Turns out one part of it is overrun with kobolds that burrowed into it and the Crypt proper has a necromancer that has moved in and has been doing his studies in the long abandoned space. So... What will a halfing wizard, a Goliath Barbarian, Elven Rogue Twins named Eldon and Sheldon (my boys), a human fighter, and a Dragonborn do? Probably die to be honest, but that is what learning is all about with a one-shot right?

It went really well. The boys REALLY got into character and it was hilarious listening to the halfling and the goliath argue about who should go first in marching order and each of them insisting they were of perfectly average height. We were all in stitches. There were other tables around us playing Warhammer and MtG that came to a full stop and were listening and cracking up. I think a mom there with another group peed her pants. It was great!

Anyway, once they FINALLY talked the Goliath into taking the lead, they realized it was a bad idea, because while they were trying to plan and strategize he just bumbled on ahead like a bulldozer with one of their two torches in hand until one by one the rest of the party left the two "brains" (the halfling and the half-elf) discussing over the map until they realized they were alone in the dark in a scary crypt. By the time everyone caught up to him he had flung open a door and found a room full of skeletons. That fight took an hour as the group of newbies and novices all tried to figure out what initiative order and reach meant. Poor Goliath was blocking the doorway for everyone but the halfling who cast Mage Hand and successfully grapples a skeleton, pulling him out into the hall between the Goliath's legs for the rest of the party to whale on. It was awesome to be honest and I was very impressed by the idea and the fact he made it work. The managed to finish this fight just at our agreed-upon quitting time. So what was supposed to be a one-shot will be continued another day since everyone enjoyed it so much.

Glad you're back, dude. I don't blame you for being gone- Real Life always has to take priority, and you've had a serious load to haul recently.
I'm good- tomorrow I celebrate "retirement minus 6 months". Assuming nothing terrible happens before then, I will officially retire Sept. 8!
