Day 19 – 10:55 a

.

Moving back to the water room, everything is still quiet, except for the irregular dripping of water from above in this room. You probe the 8' or so of water just prior to the entrance to the room. It is an incline down. Then there's a drop off at the edge of the room. Quick spear check show the drop off another 5' or so. So, at the entrance of this cavern, the water is 6' deep. I'm stopping you there just in case there are any other preparations you want to make before wading in. :)

You are at the entrance, you can see pretty much the whole of this big cavern, except that area in the south west. The cavern cuts in a bit right there, cutting off your view of what (your pretty sure) may be further area of this cavern. I left it blue to distinguish it from areas that there are no cavern. There is, what looks to be, a ledge across the cavern near the exit. It's about 15 or 20 feet away depending on where you are measuring.

"Me already wet." Jeloon says matter-of-factly. "Me not stop now." After a brief moment, she asks the halfling: "You wanna ride?" indicating her willingness to carry the thief on her shoulders.

Till shrugs, "I leaped through that window in the old spider shack the other day with no problems. I should be able to land after being tossed 15 feet..."

Yosef quickly sheaths his sword and tries not to laugh at Jeloon's jovial query of feigned concern. He makes ready with his short bow again, intent on covering his companions as they prepare to cross. He will take up a position as far off to the side as he can to have the best clear field of fire he can attain.

"Covering," he declares, calling out the obvious as he scans the water and passage beyond, expecting prepared malevolence to arrive at any moment!

Jeloon lifts Till. The half orc swings her arms a few times, getting accustomed to the weight, then, as carefully as she can, sends the halfling airborne across the water divide.

Is the water flowing or still? Is it brackish? Sorry if this was already answered.
Bruard looks at Jeloon, then Yosef Who's throwing us? He pauses... How do you all propose we get across? We should have sent one end of a rope with the halfling.

Water is fairly still, but not brackish, iirc. Cold cave water, I'm sure.

You can toss one end of the rope... It is only 15 feet...

just for strategy sake, while I prepare the action post, Till does land safely. I just need to figure out what may be happening next.

Day 19 – 11:00 a

The water looks still, except for ripples appearing a various intervals apparently due to the irregular, but constant drips from the ceiling. It sure does look cold.

Till is easily tossed across and able to land effortlessly on his feet.

He takes out his sword and dagger and whirls around to start strategizing with the others.

PM sent.

Almost immediately, Till notes the signature of about 12 giant rat-sized objects in the water, six on either side of the opening, just near where the rest of the party is standing. He suspects if someone had entered the water, they would have been swarmed and quickly overpowered.

He holds up his hand to stop the rest of the party from doing anything.

Using simple hand gestures, he indicates danger from six creatures on either side of the opening, pointing to their locations with his sword. Then he indicates nobody should enter the water.

But... what to do next? He shrugs.

Then he steps to the side of the opening and spends an equal amount of time watching the underwater objects and keeping an eye on the tunnel further along, to make sure he isn't ambushed from behind while the others try and figure out what to do about the submerged danger.

Yosef catches Till's signal and puts up his arm to indicate to the others to hold. He withdraws from the ledge a bit so as not to make himself a target.

Once backed away, he'll quickly set down his bow and readied arrow and take off his pack. He opens it up and quickly gets out a flask of lamp oil. He holds it up for Till and the others to see and makes some signals to see what the others think about dumping out some lamp oil in the water and then points to Van's torch.

Yosef frowns curiously when he sees Till signal that the vermin are actually under the waterline.

For lack of knowing how else to combat them, the elf makes silent gestures to the others to indicate pouring the oil out on the water and then faking a crossing and/or making a distraction that might lure them in before applying flame.

Knowing that Till has a better vantage point than he and the others have, he'll defer to his halfling companion to see what he thinks first.

Till says, in a voice loud enough to carry the space, "They're just sitting there, waiting. I suspect they've been commanded to attack just as soon as someone gets in the water. I've no idea what to do here, though... I don't know if we want to leave them there, even if we all CAN cross without getting wet. Maybe we could pour oil on top of the water, then try to get them to come up and fight and light it up? Worth a shot..."

He looks expectantly at the others to see if they have any other ideas that might work better.

Bruard peers into the water, then speaks In our searching of the rooms behind us, did we find anything that could make a raft? That might not be the best solution, but it could be an option. Do we have an archer that may be able to hit the vermin accurately while they're underwater?

That last idea is probably not going to work either, as there will be penalties for firing into water, I'm sure.

If we had someone with a Tenser's Floating Disc spell, cast at 2nd level or above, we could use that. (maybe)

Jeloon just stand in place with a puzzled look on her face. "How the rats get down there?" she wonders aloud, "and stay down there?" she finishes.

"Me could go in 'n fight 'em." she offers with a grin.

Yosef's puts his pack back on and slings his bow. His curious visage is now tainted with more concern. "They should not be able to hold their breaths as such, at least not naturally. That is a worrisome and unknown factor here. Are they treading water Till? Or perhaps sitting on a ledge or rock just under the surface?" he queries, wondering about their status and worried that they're dealing with magic or some other form of devilty.

"The idea of wading into the water to deal with them is not very... attractive. If we could find a way to draw them over after we've poured some lamp oil out on the surface, we could try and catch them that way," he opines with obvious uncertainty. "We could try and fashion a raft of sorts, since it is too far to jump across. But that would take too much time and ultimately we would have to deal with the vermin again anyway..."
