The adventure begins

You pull out coins one ofter the other stacking them in front of you, counting out loud as the others watch.

When it is all said in done you have 950 gold coins stacked in front of you, all from a cooin pouch that looks as if it could hold no more that 2 or 3.

Viktor stares wide-eyed as Cilian pulls gold coin after gold coin out of the small pouch. He asks the others if the examination and opening of the mysterious box should be done by Harold or one of the other more experienced adults here in town.


OOC: WP, in regards to training, Viktor would like to accompany Tubeedee in seeking out thieves' training first before trying to complete any fighter training (I'm unsure if Viktor will have the time or money for both at present). Perhaps there was a friend of or mentor to his older brother Roscoe before he left town and ended up in the Oslodin clink?

Cilian appears to be nervous at the mention of telling others about what they've found. "If we start showing others what we've found, then they'll want to know where we found it. Or worse, they'll want to confiscate it. Viktor, maybe you and Tub could look at the latch on the box and try to see if it is trapped or not."

Then Cilian goes back to examining the coin purse. "This could be really useful if... let me try an experiment."

He takes four of the gold coins from the pile and puts them back in the purse. Then he puts one of his silver coins in after that. Next he'll put five more of the gold coins in the coin purse and close it. Then when he opens the coin purse back up, he concentrates on pulling the silver coin out first.

If that works, then he'll put the silver coin back in and close it. Then when he opens the coin purse back up again, he'll concentrate on pulling five gold coins out and then the silver coin.

If it doesn't work, and a gold coin comes out the first time, then he'll continue taking coins out to see how many come out before the silver one does. If it is three more after the first one, then maybe you take things out in the same order as they were put in. If it is four more after the first one, then maybe you take things out in the reverse order as they were put in.

If one of these theories happens to be true, then he'll conduct a similar experiment with the silver and gold coins (maybe by placing one gold coin, then the silver coin, then nine more gold coins in the bag) to try and validate the theory.

"Oh, by the way... that breaks down to 135 gold coins for each of us, with five left over."

Sergius will seek the instruction of his father on how to get some training (if he is not able/willing to train Serg himself).

''Minter, of course, can be consulted about this stuff... For a price though. I trust Korec and he trusts Harold,'' Tbd shrugs, ''I think we should trust them. Well those caves were profitable! Wouldn't mind going back now!'' braver now that we re back in town.

Tubeedee will discuss training options with argennian and then teell theothers about Minter and take his share and go find Minter.

The pouch seems to work 1 coin at a time, which ever coin you think of (silver, gold) is the one you pull out.

Cilian mutters to himself, "I wonder if the purse might work for spell components, too..."

"So. I think when Osric gets back we should give him the scroll as he's probably the only one who could use it properly. I'd like to try a few more experiments with this coin purse, if the rest of you don't mind... It appears to be able to produce forth whatever coin I ask for. I wonder if it would work for something like spell components, too."

"If you guys want to take the box to Minter to examine before you open it, then go ahead. I'd start by just having him check it for traps. If he doesn't find anything, then maybe we could just open it ourselves. Let me know what you find out!" He stands up and smooths down his robes, adjusting his belt and belt pouches.

"Before it gets too late in the day, I'd like to track down Harold and find out if he can help me with any further instruction in the magical arts. We have the room for the rest of the night, if anyone wants to crash here."

Cilian leaves to track down Harold and find out if he can help Cilian train to Level 1.

Hanna thinks this fear of booby-traps is paranoia speaking. While others are talking about what to do with the box and who to trust, Hanna rolls her eyes, then casually reaches over and opens it up.

She does this while the discussion is still going on, before anyone leaves the room. If the box turns out to be locked, she looks at the Tubster and says, Hey, before you run off, why don't you give this a go?

after wincing at her attempt, if needed Tbd will attemp to unlock the box after attempting to look if it's trapped at all. If we are still stymied, or it reveals nothing to our untrained eyes Tbd takes it to Minters with him.

OOC: keeping your request to stay out of others' threads WP in mind, Tbd did want to see what others' were doing about thieving training... But I'll touch base with him later to see if his bro has any ideas... Hate checking posts on this phone... But its so convenient

Viktor's brother used to run with an older guy named Levon, you see him around from time to time and he lives in the run down section of the village south east of the inn.

Viktor makes to call out caution as he sees Hanna reach for the box to open it, but instead dives behind a table. When an explosion doesn't happen or Hanna doesn't fall to the ground dead from a poison needle, he'll peak out over the table and with as much dignity as possible get himself up and look into the box. "Hanna, we really should check such mysterious items for booby traps in the future...", he states carefully until she turns to give him that trademark "just-because-you're-a-wussy/you talkin to me??" look. He pulls back away from her, fearing her hard-as-a-mulekick punch in the arm. "Ahem... well, what I mean is... in the future we should be more cautious. I guess we'll need to get reequipped now that our merchant-employer has taken back his weapons and such. And I was just gettin used to that shortsword..." Viktor will reserve himself to staying out of the way and after everyone splits to go run their errands, he'll order some of Korec's ale and think about how he'll spend his share of the loot.

I've heard the way to figure out potions is to sample them. Or something like that. You guys have any ideas about that? She picks up a vial, holds it up to the light and peers at it, picks at the stopper....

Hanna wants to know what this stuff is, but doesn't want to have to shell out coin to have it magiaclly identified. Is it possible to discover the nature of potions by sampling them? If so, that's what she does. Otherwise, she'll leave them to be diagnosed by someone else.

After checking out the potions to the best of her ability, Hanna will head out to Clem's combat center to arrange for training.

Yes sampling a potion will let you know what it is. however if it is poison then the save or die still applies.

Hannas swirls the 1st potion and takes a small sip, some minor scatches she had heal up (potion of extra healing)

The second potion as soon as she sips she shoots up a foot in height, but only for a second then she returns to normal size (potion of growth)

Cilian runs back upstairs to the private room and enters just as Hanna has finished sipping the unlabeled potions.

"Wow," he exclaims. "Very brave of you, Hanna! So what are they?"

He closes the door and turns back to face the friends remaining in the room. "I wanted to let all of you know I'm going to be gone for a few weeks. Harold has agreed to help me finish my initial training and prepare a spell book! But it is pretty intense, so we'll be up at his cabin for much of that time. I will be back for the Equinox celebration but then will have to leave for another two weeks."

"Hopefully when I return, Hanna, I'll be a little more useful on our next adventure! Oh, if Osric returns before I get back, let him know where I am if he asks." He pauses, then adds, "We should probably give Osric the scroll, though we might want to get a different case for it; that human femur is a bit creepy. Maybe we could use one of the extra 5 gold coins to buy a leather map case for him? Anyway, I have to go pack; Harold and I are leaving first thing in the morning." Cilian waves to everyone in the room and takes his leave.

If there is still time in the day, then he'll go purchase a leather backpack at the general store for use in his travels. If it is too late in the day, then he'll head back to his father's farm and grab an old one from storage.
