20. Recovering at the Sleeping Dragon

#1 Post by dmw71 »

Your return trip to O'Hare is uneventful and, as strange as this little town has been, it is a welcomed sight.

The journey back, which began in the afternoon, finds you entering the town limits just as sun is about to set. Your past experiences lead you directly to the Sleeping Dragon, where you're warmly met by Ferrell, followed closely by her kids Landon and Rose; the later of which hides behind her bigger brother.

"Oh, heavens!" the innkeeper proclaims as she notices you enter her establishment. "Here. Here." she says, hustling you inside and closing the door behind you. "Business been slow -" she starts, "- so I have plenty of room for ya." "Jasper!" she yells into the kitchen. "Food fer a dozen." she instructs; clearly not aware the party has a resident chef.

Turning her attention back to the group, "Now, I's want to hear all 'bout what happened to you's, but the stories can wait 'til the mornin'."

"Let's get you to your rooms so you can rest."

And, with that, she leads you upstairs and allows you to fill the four vacant rooms she has available.

Everyone sleeps soundly. (+1hp each)

---

Kendrick still has his 'lay on hands' ability that he can use before turning in for the night. Zhym, just let me know who you'd like to use it on (if not Kendrick).

More later.

Kendrick lays hands on Gwilt to heal him of some of his wounds.
Is the HP status correct—he's at -1? If I'd known I'd have healed him sooner!

Done.
He was at -2 at the time; the -1 shown already reflects the +1 for the night of rest. So, your 'hands' would have brought him to 0 hit points and left him still unconscious; now, with the night of healing, Gwillt will be at 1 hit point and wake conscious and able to function.
---

Kendrick kneels over Gwillt and applies his hands, allowing his faith to restore some of the rangers wounds (+2).

Gwillt

Gwillt, with the faithful healing from Kendrick last night, coupled with the successful night of rest, wakes in the morning, conscious.

Also, with the night of rest, all characters have the full abilities of their class for any new levels (including new spells, additional weapon proficiencies, etc...).

Grim will ask about a possible bath to wash the stink of trog guts and his own sweat and blood away.

Gwillt wakes up in a bed in... an inn, he supposes. He tries to sit up and move his feet to the floor, but has to stop the room from spinning before he can go any further. Carefully, he dresses in clothes that, thankfully, appear to have been laundered free of trog stench, blood (his and theirs), and mud.

He takes a moment to assess himself. He has a splitting headache and it tastes as if he's eaten troglodyte urine-soaked wool-and-thorn pasties for dinner. His shoulder is so stiff he can barely lift his arm to put on a shirt. His thigh throbs from a great big javelin wound that went clear through it. One of his fingers is jammed from when his sword slammed into a wall of that damned trog tunnel.

In short, he feels like shite.

He makes his way downstairs, where he finds Ferrell. Sighing in relief, he mutters, "Ahh... the Sleeping Dragon." When she moves to help him find a seat, he collapses into a chair and faintly asks for hot tea and the sweetest scones she can come up with. Then Gwillt rests his head on the table until she returns with his food and drink.

"I know not what happened last night after we left that stinking hole in the ground, but if I never see one of them bleeding spiders again, it'll be too soon," he mumbles to nobody in particular. He starts to look around to see where everyone else is, but the sudden movement causes his head to spin and his shoulder to hurt, so he stops.

When Ferrell returns with his food and a pitcher of hot tea, he quickly praises the gods for feeling pain (better than feeling naught but cold hard earth) and the peace and quiet of the early morn. Then he slowly begins to eat and drink the best meal he's ever had.

updated spells on character sheet.

Waking early Epsilon puts on clean clothes and takes time to brush his hair and braid his long goatee.

He washes off his armor and then heads downstairs and wearily takes a seat and orders eggs and toasted bread.

When the group assembles he gets right to healing

gwilt [1d8] = 6

ewell [1d8] = 4

himself [1d8] = 8

gwilt again [1d8] = 5

char sheet updated with additional spell and turn undead.

O'rek rises and feels invigorated spiritually. An evening spent in reflection of the sun and stars and fates that have wound his wyrd 'round this group has been beneficial and rewarding. He feels a special blessing from his patron. Humbling his past actions, exploits and failures.

Aching bones and a stink that no hot bath will seem to wipe away completely, he whispers a prayer to restore his physical energy and then seeks out the party to lend what aid he can....

Cure Light Wounds [1d8] = 7 on himself.

I have 3 heals left for the group and would love another day in town to fully recuperate before heading back (gods and Trog attacks willing!)

The cook, having rested fully, stretches and peers out the window. The morning sun greets him and he hears his stomach rumble. Having had two meals before going to bed, its amazing how he his still hungry. Hearing the sounds of his group members stirring downstairs, he dresses himself up in his usual attire and takes everything he owns with him. He descends to the main floor and takes a seat at one of the tables, asking for some eggs and toast, water too. "Thanks again Ferrel for your hospitality! How has the town been doing since we were gone," he asks casually as he pulls out his coin purse.

The inn, while not fancy, will offer you the opportunity to bathe.

Great posts so far, guys.

Feel free to continue to share your morning routine stories, and begin to coordinate any plans for the day, even just exhausting your spells to heal up and resting another night or two.

I might not be able to update again until later this weekend, but, basically, the town had been relatively quiet since you've left with no attacks. There's obviously still the strange behavior, but the town has become quite segregated - those that are "normal" at the Dragon, and those acting strangely, at the temple and the Goat.

Looks like Gwillt, Ewell, Kaltar, Epsilon, and Grim are all still down a significant amount.

I suppose it will be hard to heal Grim with the magical fear and all, so... Lets get everyone else back up. TC can jump in if he has any ideas for giving Grim healing while avoiding the magical fear.

The rest are either fully healed or just down one and that will drop off after this next night. So maybe hit Epsilon, then Ewell, then Gwillt, raven? Saalaria can hit Kaltar once, then Ewell and Gwillt and see who needs it the most at that point...

Grim heals 2 HP with each "night of rest" as a class ability so a couple nights will do him well. He will still refuse healing in the form of spells but...sneak a healing potion into his wine? Lol

Grim will mostly stick to himself unless approached. He will spend most of his free time on the roof of the inn looking toward the far off trog cave in case they rally. As he watches he will perform maintenance on his weapons.

Kendrick is also at 5/12 HP, FWIW, from his run-in with the goblins. But he'll use his laying on of hands ability on others first.

During the party's rest, McLookout will induldge in the breads, fruits, cheese and wines with renewed vigor. He can be found sampling the foodstuffs up on the roof, relaxing at his lookout spot. Although keeping an eye out for danger, he is gathering more info on possible investment property here in Ohare.

Kaltar also cleans himself and his equipment, perhaps spending a little too long lovingly tending to his trusty mace.
He will join Strom for a thanksgiving to their deity for safe deliverance of the group from the caves.
He then heals himself twice:

Cure Light Wounds [1d8] = 5

Cure Light Wounds [1d8] = 3

Then seeks out the group to see who else needs tending and taking full advantage of the breakfast on offer
Dave can you let me know once hp thread fully updated?

Shannigans eventually remembers the data that needs to be transferred from Garth's spellbook. Disappointed in himself for forgetting to do so earlier, he knows he has lost at least a few hours to the task and climbs back down to meet the others. Gathering the book (from Epsilon i think) he will not be as good a lookout as he would like, but he does occasionally look up from his studies.

O'rek will also inquire as to a store for potential weapon purchases to replace his mace.
