Meh, I'd find a series about TSR more interesting. Or even a group of players playing the game, interspersed with scenes from the story. I feel D&D doesn't have a unified setting on purpose, so a series set inside the game will never resemble anything anyone has ever played.

I'll watch if it's on a channel I get.
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

Agree. Likewise, it's missing unified characters and plot. Unless they do Dragonlance (shudder). First person video games suffer the same challenge, which might be why Doom, Fortnite and Call of Duty haven't been turned into successful blockbuster movie franchises, despite their popularity.

A D&D TV show could be handled like the new Jumanji movies, or even Scott Pilgrim, if they hadn't beaten them to the punch.

I hope they cut back and forth between the players and their characters. It would help differentiate from all the previous sword and sorcery fare.

This for me as well.

I too hope they play up the player/PC aspect. Cutting back and forth, closer to Stranger Things than “hey famous people doing voices here!!!!”
I wouldn’t mind a couple throw away references here and there, sorta like Ready Player One did, but yeah it should be setting non-specific. But WotC will want to use it to push products though I’m thinking?
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

No doubt it will have marketing in it. Cutting back and forth between the players and their characters would be really cool.

I wouldn't mind Greyhawk, but Forgotten Realms would be more popular. Can you imagine Spelljammer or Planescape though!

I've always been a big fan of portal fiction, where the players get transported into the fantasy world of their characters. I doubt it will be this, but showing the relationship between the players and their characters would be really neat.

In a strange way, I can see it almost following the blueprint of The League, except with D&D instead of fantasy football.

It doesn't even matter to me how/what they do, I'll definitely watch it... unless it really sucks. I mean, I managed to watch the dreadful Dungeons & Dragons movie multiple times, so my tolerance is pretty high.

I'm talking about this piece of hot garbage from 2000:

It was dreadful, and yet, I've managed to sit through the entire thing two or three times.

In other words, even if the new D&D show is bad, I'll almost certainly still watch it. I'm just an idiot that way.

You would think.

I just allow myself enjoyment from movies in this genre. Even bad ones (and sometimes especially the bad ones).

Understandable. I get mocked for my love of "Hawk the Slayer" and "Blood of Heroes" - two of my faves. ;)

I can't say I've seen (or even heard of) either of those. I'll have to check them out.

By the way, the JustWatch website is AWESOME for locating where a particular movie or TV show can be streamed or purchased. Just select what channels/services you have and search for a title. For example, I was easily (and quickly) able to discover that both of Ron's movies are freely available to stream on Amazon Prime (at least here in the US):

  1. The Blood of Heroes
    > Available to stream on Amazon Prime.
  2. Hawk the Slayer
    > Also available to stream on Amazon Prime.

You're welcome. :D

You read my mind, exactly. I loved, loved, loved The Sleeping Dragon growing up. I doubt, however, they could ever be made without serious revision as the books (at least the first) dealt with some dark topics.

Something like it, though, for sure.
