Re: The Village of Herebury
Eighter's House
Eighter is a scrawny old veteran of the Goblin Wars who lives in one of the larger houses of the village. He retired to Herebury after losing two fingers, making it almost impossible to hold a sword. Judging by the size of his house, he brought some goblin loot with him, the location of which is often speculated upon by other villagers (not that anyone would ever dream of stealing it, perish the thought).
Eighter isn't good at much, just fighting, telling stories, and brewing ale, so his house serves as the village's impromptu tavern. Eighter opens when he's got fresh ale and feels like company, which is most of the time now that you mention it. Eighter has never seemed so concerned with exact prices, and has never set up his house like a proper tavern. Customers feel more like guests in his living room, and are often told to simply "help yourself, coin in the helm!"
Eighter's is also a popular place with Herebury's children, due to the weapons and armour scattered around the walls, the stuffed goblin head above the fireplace, and Eighter's penchant for telling long and violent war stories.

mb not so sure this is where we are supposed to post.

Admittedly I didn't follow the instructions perfectly, and wrote a sentence or two more than a sentence or two.Pulpatoon wrote:After you have rolled your d12 and gotten the first bit of information about your character's background, please write a sentence or two describing a significant location in or near the village.
This location may or may not be directly related to the result that they just rolled. Feel free to use the result as inspiration or just to make up something that interests you.
Post the description in the "Village of Herebury" thread.

my bad just was going by the opening sentence he posted here made it sound like he was going to post information important about NPC's and locations here.

Ah, wait for the GM's reply to your roll. He'll give you some background on your character based on the roll, and some stat modifiers. Maybe read the Rules & Mechanics thread where much is explained...

I did read there but it does not have the tables so essentially I am stuck and waiting.

Re: The Village of Herebury
Ha ha I can finally say this line lets see who gets the reference.
I live in a van down by the river!
Abel raised up as a fisherman came to long for taking care of animals. He longs for a life of travel though working as an assistant best-keeper is a job he wanted as a child but now even that and the life of fishing as a hobby and for food has made Abel grow bored with the simple life he wants to travel see things have an adventure.

Re: The Village of Herebury
mb.'s description is great: very flavorful, and has some potential plot hooks. However, don't feel like you need to present a location as fully realized as this. A location could also be "The tree we all climbed as kids."
I was just reading about how the tavern really wasn't a feature of medieval life, but instead it was a situation much more like what mb. has described. Anyone who had brewed up a batch of beer would turn their house into the tavern until they ran out. Brewing beer was usually unregulated by the guilds, so anyone could do it, and it was one of the rare ways you could earn a little extra money.

Re: The Village of Herebury
bah did I do my posting incorrect then I never once mentioned a location...... The river is very relaxing and is Abel's favored location as it relaxes him and reminds him of his childhood....

Re: The Village of Herebury
Funny Pulpatoon, I was just reading the same historical tavern info last week, which is where the inspiration came from.

Smokey
Smokey comes from somewhere deep in the woods where he lives in a log cabin. His home is a pine forest flanked by a ridge of rocky cliffs to the west and the Serenity River to the East.
I'm playing myself, it appears.

Dizlexus, don't jump too far ahead in your conception of the character! There's a lot more to learn about him from the tables. But could you describe a location based on the above information?Dizlexus wrote:Smokey
Smokey comes from somewhere deep in the woods where he lives in a log cabin. He fetches coin by hunting and selling pelts. He is wire thin and fit like the wild animals he pursues. He is fascinated by big cats.
He only occasionally comes to town as he rejects the trappings of civilized life and prefers being outdoors in the company of his dog pack.
