I copied a link in at the beginning. Please move it wherever would make sense.
Re: Character Generation
Thanks. Once you name your character, you should change the title of your sheet. You might also want to re-arrange the order of the two tabs so the character sheet is the 1st tab (shouldn't affect the forumlas).Samwell Turleton wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 11:00 pm I copied a link in at the beginning. Also, any thoughts on your background? You can have a simpler background that Toshizo or about the same, your choice. If you need thoughts, either jemmus or I can offer suggestions.

Re: Character Generation
Thanks for the research and clarification, GM. I've updated my Google Sheets char sheet. Known skills are in purple text, FIS skills are in italics. (Underline isn't available in Google Sheets). By the way, my rolls are here http://www.unseenservant.com/default.as ... ts&pc=8000.

I also updated the character sheet and posted a new image at the beginning of this thread.

Looks like you put your bonus skills in italic...Samwell Turleton wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 9:20 pm I also updated the character sheet and posted a new image at the beginning of this thread.
Let's do color for known, italic for bonus, and bold for FIS. And bonus skills that aren't initial skills have a score of 0 remember, with a BCS of 1. Remember BCS is @floor(score / 5) with level added to Bonus skills.
Re: Character Generation
Nice, and the formatting signals are done on jemmus's character's Google Sheets link. I'm having trouble with the Google Sheets UI, sorry mates. I don't see how to view each others' char sheets, or GM's quick-access information.ffilz wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 10:36 pmLooks like you put your bonus skills in italic...Samwell Turleton wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 9:20 pm I also updated the character sheet and posted a new image at the beginning of this thread.

You folks may need to share your sheets, I suggest "allow anyone with the link to read" then you don't need to list specific people. Otherwise, we can share our e-mail addresses so you can invite specific people to view.

Here's my char sheet, shared with anyone who has the link can access. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing Here's my email address, in case that doesn't work: jemmus112@gmail.com.

Re: Character Generation
I don't think you are out of place to bring your experience to the character generation conversation. I personally really appreciate the rules help! I will update my character sheet to show that /5 skill value for the RAW BCS.
In your experience how does the use of skills play out in game?
It seems like we will all be failing rolls for a while - although less than I thought a moment ago as I thought skills were checked against a 1d100 roll. A 1d20 makes more sense.

Re: Character Generation
To be honest, skill rolls rarely came up in the games I played, but yes, be prepared to fail regularly at 1st level. Combat is very dangerous.

I THINK this is everything in order, if someone could give it the once over to make sure I can start looking at the setting book and come up with a backstory.

I much prefer being told where I'm wrong by someone who understands the rules, no need to apologise. Please keep steering me right in future!
Re: Character Generation
Okay, here is my first try at a character. A middle Ronin, pretty strong guy, sort of a modified tank. Let me know what you think.
A few notes/questions. I received a Masakari as a Bugei weapon, I rolled for quality, but I'm not sure I should have. Let me know what you think Frank.
I spent a gold piece outfitting my guy, if this is not what you want, let me know.
I would like to point out that including Ninjas in a group presents certain issues. Generally as eta, a Ninja would be an insult to other members of the group. Also, Ninja were used, but highly disrespected by Samurai and Ronin, in the groups I played in, we routinely killed Ninja (as well as Shugenja) when we discovered them. This lead to the end of my GM days because I allowed a Ninja into the group, telling them of the issues beforehand. They then used player knowledge to avoid discovering the Ninja. When I ruled that they had discovered the Ninja, they refused to agree. Group dissolved.
I've never played with the status rules, and am not at all sure of how they work.

Re: Character Generation
Would you mind putting this up on Google Drive? If you prefer not to, I can put it on my drive and give you edit access.
In Section 1104.0 WEAPONRY it indicates non-swords are of average quality, though it is optional for other bladed weapons to have variable quality, but Master quality should be reserved for swords. I'm happy to have non-swords potentially be of differing quality. One thought on the inheritance Sword Quality table is to roll for non-swords, but a rolled quality above average is dropped one step, so Master becomes Superior, Superior becomes Good, and Good becomes Average. This allows for the somewhat rare Good or Superior non-sword. Purchasing such weapons will require some role play to find weapon smith that is good enough to make an above average weapon who is willing to spend time on a non-sword weapons.A few notes/questions. I received a Masakari as a Bugei weapon, I rolled for quality, but I'm not sure I should have. Let me know what you think Frank.
Yea, that's fine.I spent a gold piece outfitting my guy, if this is not what you want, let me know.
This is a very good point. So far no one has offered a Ninja, we do have a Yakuza which isn't quite so problematic. I do want to allow some variety, but I agree that perhaps a campaign should either a Ninja campaign or a Samurai campaign... I'm not up enough on the culture to know what kinds of issues a Yakuza would raise.I would like to point out that including Ninjas in a group presents certain issues. Generally as eta, a Ninja would be an insult to other members of the group. Also, Ninja were used, but highly disrespected by Samurai and Ronin, in the groups I played in, we routinely killed Ninja (as well as Shugenja) when we discovered them. Now that everyone has offered a character, I need to take some time to look them over and consider if there are any issues.
The Status rules look interesting, we'll see how it goes...I've never played with the status rules, and am not at all sure of how they work.
Re: Character Generation
I'll try saving this to the Google Drive, but I'm not sure how to do it.
I did want to mention that this character wants to be a blade master, with the eventual dream of opening a school of blade.

Re: Character Generation
I can't save to the Google Drive. I run a business that requires absolute security. I'm very nervous about saving in the cloud.
Re: Character Generation
Here is the updated version.
Re: Character Generation
Ok, I'll put it on my Google Drive and let you edit it. Then you should be able to make updates without re-posting.
I've shared it https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qVp2gP ... sp=sharing
But I'm not sure we have you set up with edit access for anything, did you give me a Google login to give access to? Can you edit this: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WzA ... sp=sharing
If not, request edit access and you can also request edit access to your character sheet.
