The Firehouse
Home Sweet Haunted Home
Aug. 9, 2018 8: 30 am
Warm, Humid

As Etta escorts the new arrival Mac to meet Julia , she offers a smile and wide eyes. She opens the drawer where she had been keeping all the team's dossiers and makes a not to subtle double check of the ID picture before giving a sigh of relief. Her composure returns and she offers a warmer smile. Welcome to OFGB, Mr. McAuslan. I think Roy is in the breakroom or the library, but I just saw most of the guys head downstairs to check on something. Looks like everything here is in order. I'll get everything filed. Here is your company phone, and your's too Dr. Conklin, just activated. She hands them both one of the standard company issue phones and then Mac his copy of the paperwork. Ribbon cutting is at 10am. I have been on the phone with the Mayor's office and they are taking care of everything. Should give you plenty of time to clean up. The office did say he was expecting a tour, so soon as I file this, I am going to give the place a once over. All the emails and phone calls will be forwarded to my phone, so I will still be on duty so to speak. Is there anything I can do for either of you? Etta? Mac? Show you around? Breakroom? Shower?" she lingered on the last one a bit.

Lionel , Roy, and Jason make it down to the basement just in time to see Jake wielding a broom and looking around like he saw a ghost! He was pale and shaking, and the basement looked.... well actually for a basement it looked pretty good since there was so little here in general so far... The containment grid off to the side hummed like there was nothing out of the ordinary, there was a large empty space where soon (hopefully) an ecto mobile would be, a workbench with some basic... Lionel would note, maybe too basic, tools were haphazardly arranged, The utility area was dark as was the archive/storage area; however, there was some rattling and rummaging around from the darker corners and the sound of someone mumbling to themselves that sounded somehow familiar. Jake looked over holding the broomstick like a samurai sword. Packs!

Just then, there was an angry yell from the utility area and a paint can left over from the renovation came flying out of the shadows!

Targeting:
1=Jake
2=Jason
3=Lionel
4= Roy
5&6=Miss.

Target [1d6] = 2

The paint can comes right at Jason! Roll Moves to dodge. You have a nice open space here so I will call this one an easy roll.

Looks like the Firehouse was haunted!

Dave McAuslan

Dave takes his new phone and paperwork from Julia.

To Julia
Thank you, miss. It sounds like there's a full day ahead. A shower sounds like just the thing to put a little spring in my step. A tour would certainly be handy as well, since we're expecting company.

To Etta
I assume we'll all be gearing up? Full jumpsuit and pack for the ribbon cutting?

Turning toward the telltale sound of chaos.
What in the name of Odin's Ever Fluffy Beard is that racket?!

Dave moves toward the stairs to check on the noise.
I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can pull it off.

Moves: [1d6] = 3 Ghost:[1d6] = 4

Woah! Jason shouts ducking the can, although you could see the tips of his pointy hair waiving back and forth. Yeah packs! They hadn't moved the equipment downstairs yet so he spun on his heel and headed back up the stairs hustled up them and rounded the corner to where the packs were laid out in the lab, as he crossed the hallway he could see Julia and Etta with another big guy talking. HEY ALL HANDS ON DECK, WE GOT A LIVE ONE IN THE BASEMENT, so to speak. he pulled on his pack and gear belt grabbing a trap, pke meter and pack. Then grabbed another pack and trap for Jacob. He stepped out into the hallway and said Time for a crash course. Looks like an unknown entity in the basement, gear is in there, its just like the simulations... He heads back down the stairs ...mostly.

Okay! LOL! Whoa, Nelly!

Please, keep in mind that each round is typically only about 6 seconds. I would say that if you want to run for the packs it will take about 3 seconds to get up the stairs followed by your remaining 3 to get into the lab.

I will let you have the next turn to get your packs on, and to the stairs, but not down them... or... I will make you the evil GM deal of you can get down the stairs if you only carry the packs rather than wear them, but it will up your difficulty on actions by one degree. So and Easy will become a Moderate and so forth.

That said... everyone running up the stairs roll me 1d6 to see who wins initiative and then roll Moves. Highest roll on initiative reacts first, higher moves wins a tie... if the person on top of the stairs falls... you all do, Keystone cops style unless you rolls moves Hard to get out of the way. The good news is if you make that roll you can not only dodge but make it up the stairs and assuming no ghost I will even say you catch your buddy.

Next round.... DING
 I love the enthusiasm but from Mac's position I would say you could run from the lobby to the lab. It isn't that far in the scheme of things. Next round you can join the guys down the stairs, all the same rules apply. Down the stairs running will be a Hard Moves roll with a pack on. Remember you can spend brownie points to get extra dice. Roaming... I will be sending you a PM momentarily on how to roll dice.

Etta grabs aPKE meter as she rushes towards the stairs, bellowing: "Boys! BOYS! Do NOT fire those proton packs around the containment grid! Do you hear me?!"

She calls over to Julia: "Which of the boys is in charge of the science?"

Lionel "Freight Train" Williams

Being close to the stairs, Lionel makes a mad dash for the proton packs. Grabbing two, he runs back to the basement.

Okay, I see where RV edited his post so I am typing this up now with updated maps as I believe we are positioned now. Good call for Lionel rolling with Bps since he is carrying 2 packs, I would have definitely made that a hard roll and he broke 20 AND is still the 2nd one to get there. Boomer Sooner, Indeed! These will be more or less in order, I am starting with Etta since her action before serves as a good bridge from the last round to this one.

Etta Etta turns on the PKE meter on her phone and rushes to the stairs, bellowing: "Boys! BOYS! Do NOT fire those proton packs around the containment grid! Do you hear me?!" Before she calls over to a shocked Julia who stands at the threshold of the hallway and the lobby area: "Which of the boys is in charge of the science?"

Julia shrugs, looking a little stunned. "I....I don't know.... Jason? He's the Dr! I'm just a business major! What's going on? Why is everyone running around?"

As Julia replied in a panicked voice, Etta would see the following reading, which was detailed since she was within close range, even at the head of the stairs.
Class 5 Focused Exo-Thermal Red Transparent Entity w/
Mild Kinetic Ability.
Repeat Log Indicator Light is flashing in the corner.

The PKE Network had read this ghost before?
Mac is obviously a man of action and runs, to get a pack, narrowly missing Jason & Lionel as they rushed out from the lab, Jason with his pack on and ready and the former College Football Star carrying two packs, one on his back and another in his hand like a suitcase. The New guy gets into the lab and finds a pack easily enough in the mostly sparse space, and begins putting his on just as Roy secures his own pack.

While the guys are grabbing their packs, Jason and Lionel are able to see Jake is still having a hard time as he narrowly bats away more projectiles from the utility room.

Paint Can:
Mod Needs 10:
[2d6] = 7

"Trap! Someone has to get a trap!"

Initiative Order:
Jason - Won initiative.
Lionel - 2nd
Roy - Did not roll, already engaged, will put next in order as default
Jake - NPCed but engaged, will order last for this round.
Ghost - Pesky little? spud...
Etta - Not yet engaged, Order will be mostly narrative until she is directly involved in the action.
Mac - Bottom of the order, but still mostly narrative until this round is resolved.

If Roy and Mac will roll initiative this round, I will make sure to put that in perspective for how this round plays out. If Etta does anything to more directly engage in the action downstairs, Please, include this roll as well. Bps saved you guys already this round, so good call!

Etta points the screen of her phone at Jason on the stairs. "Either HQ forgot to clear the memory on these phones, or yesterday's ghost has gotten out!"

Seeing that there are plenty of proton packs in play, Etta then goes scrambling for a ghost trap. As she runs, she chews her lip in consternation. If this is the ghost the boys captured yesterday, how did it get out? User error? Faulty equipment? Something worse?

Dave throws a proton on his back while the clear sounds of total mayhem come from down the stairs. Over the din, he hears someone yell for a trap. Trap, yeah, we'll need one of those! He looks around the sparse lab and finds a trap, then bolts like a scalded yeti to join the tussle.

Dave hauls ass for the stairs, intending on trying to help. Head down the stairs.

Lionel "Freight Train" Williams

The big man thunders down the stairs, tossing a pack to Jacob as he runs past him. Suit up! he shouts, not slowing to wait for a reply. Keying in on where Jacob was focused (and the projectiles flying out of the room makes it a bit easier), Lionel makes a beeline for the boiler room. Sliding on his knees as he gets there in order to stay low, the 'Buster scans the room for the ghost.

Jason looks up and sees Etta, her phone is too far away to see but the look on her face is all he needs. Oh man, think think, tactics and training.

IT'S TOO CROWDED DOWN HERE WE NEED TO GET IT TO FOLLOW US AWAY. Jason looks around the room, trying to place his teammates. This is too contained, if a beam hits the generators and backups there could be an explosion, and if one hits the containment unit there will definitely be an explosion.

He backs up, If we can move it out, at least shoot away from the equiptment.

The Firehouse
Home Sweet Haunted Home
Round 3
Aug. 9, 2018, 8:31 am
Warm, Humid

Jason Voices his idea to lure out the ghost somehow and works on a way to do that. Perhaps hearing that it might be the same ghost as they presumably put into the containment unit yesterday might offer some clues.

Lionel Easily recalls his years of football and lets the adrenaline guide his body as he easily makes his way not only down the stairs but over to Jake for a by the book handoff of the football... I mean unlicensed particle accelerator... and without missing a single step, puts himself in front of the utility entryway and is able to get eyes on a very familiar ghost. Since he was already downstairs, I will say it was pretty easy for him to hand off a pack and get to the utility room or closer to it, so I am calling it as an easy roll.

Etta recalls all the info on escaped ghost that she can... And with the exception of either outside influences, such as the grid being shut down, or the influences of very powerful entities such as Class 7s... She can think of none and is very sure that means there is no other recorded way it could happen. Well, at least Samhain wasn't in Arkansas... I cannot see where the Moves roll is applied here, so I am ignoring it for now. Thank you for covering that though. On the other hand, I am going to make your roll for recalling info on Ghost escape easily since you are supposed to be a Ph.D. and I think this would be part of your general knowledge base.

GM Rolls Mod Moves (20) for Roy: Roy misses his footing on the way down the stairs and lands flat on his belly. (-1Bp) Thankfully he takes the belly flop like a champ and doesn't get the wind knocked out of him, but is prone. You can still shoot from your belly, you are basically in a cool Army Man on his belly with a gun position, but there are a few things to consider:
1, you are in the way of anyone wanting to get up the stairs or down.
2, you can have a full round to fire your proton pack.
3, If you want to move to a kneel or standing position, it will take half a round, or you can roll moves to recover that time and have a full round to both move and/or fire from a mobile position.

I will be perfectly honest, I am not sure yet how this will or will not come into play next round since the Ghost is the one in the more or less fortified position, so pending what everyone does, this should be fun!

Mac makes it down the stairs but fate doesn't seem quite on his side as something snags his pack on the way down. He feels the jerk, but the human fridge has too much momentum to stop moving and hears something clang to the ground just as he is "let go" from his snag. He then sees something metallic rolling across the floor to one side about the same time that another loud noise jerks his attention to Jake...

Jake Tires to grab the handoff from the skilled football player as he rushes by but fumbles, dropping the pack with a cringe-worthy clank and the sound of little metallic pieces rattling to the floor. He looks up for a moment with an oh shit... look on his face and immediately lays the pack down, scrambling to gather all the small bits off the floor to try to puzzle them together again as there is a loud crackling noise from the pack itself, all the little LED lights flickering on and off and smoke easing out of the edges.

Damage vs. Mod Roll:
(20) [3d6] = 10 G: [1d6] = 5
Ouch! So it's busted (no pun intended) but if he makes a successful repair roll next round, he might be able to save it, otherwise, you are down one pack in the house until better repairs can be made.
Julia realizing this is really happens seems to go paler than usual and turns running back into the lobby area.
Slammer.jpg
Slammer.jpg (18.81 KiB) Viewed 459 times
Ghost (Old Red!) Seeing Lionel come up to the door, a VERY familiar ghost comes up to the doorway and howls at him, throwing a can of spray enamel at him at close range!
Target (10) [3d6] = 13

This is going to hurt! You can roll a hard moves roll to dodge, otherwise, you're getting beaned. You can also treat this as a free action if you roll successfully. GM reminds you that you have a specialty in Dodge! +5d to this roll!
Initiative Order:
Jason - Thinking on the fly.
Lionel - Blitz 42! Blitz 42! Slant Right!
Roy - Ooof! Army Man!
Etta - Oh the wonder! What does all this mean?
Mac - Broken Pack? Seems like it could be...
Jake - NPCed Broken Proton Pack.
Ghost - Hello Redness my old friend.
Julia - Out of play for the time being. (Lost her cool: Scared)
