What are my characters' estimates of the value of the alligator skin and the bracelets?

Are the bracelets linked to each other like they're both worn on the same arm, or like they're fancy handcuffs?

Hogarth cut out a few alligator teeth.

Dirk wiped his blade clean.

Properly treated, the skin would be worth as much as a suit of light armor or a regular weapon. The bracelets might be worth as much as a suit of heavy armor or a heavy weapon. The bracelets look like two of the Olympic rings.

Melor pockets the jewelry.

Shame to waste this alligator hide and meat... but onward!

Two days pass uneventfully. You're out of the marshes now and onto the grassland that slopes upward into the wooded foothills of the eastern mountains. You know that to the north, over the horizon, is the heavily-trodden road that leads from the royal city of Gogog to the battles in Valley of Shields.

In the afternoon of the second day you see figures walking toward you from the north. They gradually get closer until they're about a mile away. It seems like your paths might intersect if you all keep walking at the same pace.

What do you do?

Six or five or seven? It's a little bit misty even away from the marsh.

Melor says, I am fine with continuing. Even if these figures are trouble, we can handle it. But we should continue to observe them and see if we can learn more before we encounter them.

The figures appear as minotaurs, seven feet tall. They have heads of bison atop muscular and naked torsos with thick-furred lower halves. Each carries a massive club, and they have aggressive postures.

"Ill met!" bellows a larger one of them. "Trespassers on tribe lands! Turn about, go back."

I think we should swing wide of them, said Hogarth nervously.

The cleric speaks true, agreed Dirk.

you could talk fight or run. If you run you could go forward backward or sideways. If you talk you could be conciliatory or confrontational.

Sorry I should have been more clear. If we go around, is there another path to take? Will it take much longer? I don't have any context for whether I should fight, negotiate, or run away.

You're on a wide-open grassy plain with calf-high grass. There's a low thin mist, up to a little more than minotaur head height. Far to the east maybe several miles away are the distant shadows of the foothills. To the west (behind you) is the marsh called grey meadows. To the right, the plain continues out of sight toward the sea. To the left are the minotaurs. There's not a tree in sight, no place to hide, and the minotaurs probably can outrun you.

Melor raised a hand in supplication.

We mean no offense. What are the boundaries of your tribe's land, so we don't trespass again?

They said ‘turn about, go back’ whispered Hogarth.

He and Dirk waited for the minotaurs response to Melan’s question.
