Vik slowly descends the stairs, each step causing aloud creak and pop. You make it down the 1st 5 feet safely and look back at your mates.

Is anyone following behind?

Cilian will start making his way down the steps, as well.

Sighing Tub follows along, about five steps behind going carefully and checking for stability traps and the like.

slowly the party starts down the stairs. you spiral 25 feet down when suddenly the ancient rotting steps under cilians feet break away from the wall, tub who is several feet behind cil is also affected by the collapsing steps.

a) For Ability roll checks, you want to roll your number or lower for that ability. So a 1 is an easy pass.
b) Only Cilian and Tub were affected by this.

Hey! What happened? Are you OK?

Osric tries to see his companions. He does NOT step on the stairs.

[wolfpack]

Vik travels over the section of stairs as they creak and pop but they fail to hold as cilian starts to cross.

As the section collapses cilian quickly jumps forward and his arm is caught by vik who manages to pull him up.

the rest of the party turns to run back up the stairs as quickly as they can Tub leaping to grasp the leg of scy as the last stair falls out from under his foot.

the party now stands separated by 10' of empty space in the stairwell.

"Vik, carefully, now, see it you can tell how far it is down to the bottom..."

Viktor holds his torch outward from the staircase and looks down again. He shields his eyes from the flame as he concentrates to see if he can make out any shapes or reflections.


OOC: can we see the walls of this chamber?

Yes the stairs are built against the wall which is circular like a well about 20' around.

Vik squats down and peers below and sees stairs extend the length of his torch light.

"Well... I, umm... can't see a damn thing! So what's our play here then, lads?"

Scy pulls out a torch, lights it, and drops it down into the darkness....

"If it isn't too far, maybe some rope to scale down -- these stairs are not going to get it done...."

Vik holds position on the stairs while Scythius lights up another torch.

He watches with interest when his friend drops it to see how far down it is to the bottom. "Wonder if it'll stay lit?"

the torch falls and falls until it is just a pinpoint of light and you hear an echo of it striking a solid surface.
