Part One: The End of the Road
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Carouge also tries to hide, ready to ambush with her warhammer. If possible, she will trie to waylay one of the kobolds and strike it unconscious, for questioning later.
Évariste crosses the pit as silently as possible if able to do it before reaching the kobolds, if not he readies his sling, ready to pelt them with stones from the far side of the pit. He signals angrily to Brother Dumphey to shut up.

Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Two humanoids round the corner and appear in the torchlight. They are small, more so even than Boo, with animal snouts and rust colored scales. Their lizard eyes are full of malice. Kobolds. They wear armor made of animal hides and rags. They are armed with spears. They enter the dark passageway and are surprised by Carouge, Coat of Nine-Hides, and Boo.
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Nine-Hides spits in frustration. Should have used the knife!
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Boo smacks the kobold from behind with his short sword but makes sure to use the flat of the blade as he only wants to stun it or knock it unconscious.
[1d6] = 3
Can this count as knocking the kobold out cold?

Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Carouge deftly snaps her wrist to give the warhammer the correct amount of force to knock out the kobold. To deftly it seems, as she snaps to early and only hits air. "Dancing demons" she curses silently.
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
One Kobold falls --knocked unconscious by Boo's blade-- the other Kobold, wounded by Coat of Nine-Hides, attempts a fighting withdrawal, but the party gains initiative and may attack. The Kobold does have time to cry out loudly. Boo understands its words; "Help! Intruders!"
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Maintaining surprise would have been so nice, so much neater, Boo thinks as he snaps into Plan B. He uses the short sword against the still standing kobold but with the intent to kill this time. Grinning at the thing he calls out in kobold (pitching his tone to sound like one of the creatures too): False alarm! *harsh laughter* Idiots. Pit did its work. He snaps one arm up to point at the ceiling. Tun takes the cue and heads toward the vanguard. He will edge carefully along the edge of the pit, nervous at the small space he must traverse. The dim giant fingers his polearm in anticipation.
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Carouge strikes again, to kill this time. Hell, he knows we´re here now. she thinks.
Évariste tries to skewer the last standing kobold with his rapier if it is indeed standing when he reaches the fracas.

Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Coat of Nine-Hides attacks with her spear, hoping for a better angle, this time.
Brother Dumphey, alarmed by the sudden noise from the cave, grabs up his mace and hurries in after Tun. Fortunately, he figures out why the half-ogre is walking so close to the wall just in time to avoid the pit, himself.

Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Brother Huxley, seeing Brother Dumphey dash into action, hefts his mace and follows the other clergy man.
Gebhart snaps his book closed and mutters under his breath, "Here we go again." He puts his book away and follows the two clerics.

Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Carouge, Coat of Nine-Hides, and Boo advance on the wounded Kobold. It evades their attacks until Coat of Nine-Hides pierces its shoddy armor and drives her spear into its belly, killing it.
The heroes stand at the entrance to the cavern (A). At their feet lie two Kobolds; one dead, one unconscious.
Ahead of them is a bridge that spans off into darkness, below the bridge is also unknown darkness. The bridge is about 6' wide, made of stone. It has no railings or balustrade. In front of the bridge stand two more kobolds (X X) armed with spears. Apparently they didn't fall for Boo's ruse.
The heroes hadn't noticed it before, but now they hear the sound of running water; a stream or river must be nearby.
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Brother Huxley hefts his mace. "Foul reptilian spawn. Prepare to join your brethren in whatever hell your afterlife imagines." He charges the remaining kobolds, swinging his mace.
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Carouge shouts to Brother Huxley "Stand back fool, it could be a trap!" while at the same time readying, aiming and firing her crossbow at one of the kobolds. "Let them come to us!"
Évariste stands beside her, ready to attack any kobold that chooses to charge with his rapier. He does not enter the open area if possible but stays in the opening (A).

Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Coat of Nine-Hides sets her spear against a possible kobold charge.
Brother Dumphey, not wanting to crowd the others, inspects the bodies of the fallen kobolds for anything of interest.

Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Boo's eyes widen at the foolhardy Broth Huxley's actions, whispering has he never met kobolds? Tun is about to follow the Brother but Boo gestures a halt. The half ogre waves at the kobolds with his shield hand, the polearm held down to be hidden by the shorter folk. The gnome mutters to the others, I don't want to leave him to tackle them alone- even if he is this stupid. But whatever trouble he is about to land in, we can better help him if we are not neck-deep in the same. The gnome glances behind the group to make sure there is not a creeping rearguard to box them in and he prepares to signal his giant friend to join the fray...just not quite yet.
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Brother Huxley charges. The two Kobolds crouch and brace their spears in anticipation of the cleric's attack. Huxley gets about halfway (halfway between A and XX) when he is hit by a barrage of arrows that come flying out of the darkness from across the bridge. His plate armor and shield deflect four of the arrows, but two strike and wound the cleric badly.
Carouge fires her crossbow at one of the crouching Kobolds, but misses.
Boo checks to see if there is anything approaching from behind. The passageway behind them is empty.
Brother Dumphey searches the two downed Kobolds. They have armor made of rags and hides, crude spears, a necklace made of twine and bones, some dried jerky in their pockets (probably rat meat). They have nothing of value.

Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Brother Dumphey hands the kobold spears up to Coat of Nine-Hides, who throws one at one of the nearer kobolds.
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
"By the will of Torm you shall not prosper through your treachery," Brother Huxley snarls. He ducks back towards the group hoping to avoid another barrage. Once there, he will cast Cure Light Wounds on himself.
Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Boo peeks from around the corner to scan the area to try and spot anything useful besides the two kobolds out by the bridge, making sure to keep as much of himself shielded by the wall as possible.
Tun ponders the two dead kobolds at his feet and then begins to lash them to his shield to make it larger.
If the shield is already sized for an ogre and then has two kobolds lashed to the sides of it, how many of the others could realistically be shielded as well if they are immediately behind Tun if he were to hunker down and scuttle out to the two guards?

Re: Part One: The End of the Road
Carouge reloads the crossbow and fires at the kobolds again. Need to calm myself. I will get him, no need to hurry. He's not leaving this filth infested hole. Just take my time and kill them one by one.
Évariste readies his sling and also fires at the kobolds. "We should retreat, else we all become like pin cushions!" he croaks.
