The trapdoor opens effortlessly and Halo floats up to the 4th level of the tower, followed closely by Mira.

It is instantly clear that this floor is used as the library for some extremely learned person. Crammed bookshelves and scroll cases line every inch of the walls. There are piles of ancient books lying on the floors where the shelves have no more room to store them.

In the center of the room sits an ornate chair and desk with one large tome resting on it. A floating red sphere hovers next to the desk and chair.

The feint but very distinct sound of chewing can be heard throughout the entire room.

Halo will see if we have reached the apex of the tower with this level or if there is a further level beyond.

He will look around and open up his second sight, detecting any evil within the library.

Each floor is well lit from the walls of the glowing tower. Each floor has had a similar, although different colored, floating sphere. They do not follow you to other levels.

There is yet another hole through this ceiling, indictating at least one more level above this one. No evil is detected from anywhere in the library.

Mira looks about the room, her active mind hoping some magic can be found among the mountain of scrolls and books, but the munching has her worried. If she sees nothing that chews, she will beckon more of the team to this level and point to the door above.

Wyntar looks around the room as he waits to go to the next floor. He walks over to the majestic ice griffon and touches it admiringly. How long have you been here waiting?

Blodget, halfling thief:

If the drenched young hobbit makes it to the library level, he'll say, "Thank you kindly, Mister Morgi sir!" and then look around, reading book titles and searching for secret doors.

Wyntar touches the glass griffon, asking it how long it has been here. It does not reply.

As the others are being transported up through the hole, Mira sees nothing causing the chewing noise. Once lifted above, Blodget takes a closer look at the desk, walls, and shelves.

The titles of the books seem to cover many topics but are mostly related to magic and magical creatures. Some of the bindings look to be burrowed through by something and have several holes scattered throughout their covers. The chewing noise gets louder the closer you get to the books.

The curious halfling finds nothing secret but does notice that the large tome on the desk is covered with white dragon hide that is still intact. The pages inside are half eaten however and almost completely ruined. There are only three sections that are somewhat intact and still legible.

The first section is made up of mostly hand written notes that deal with numerous experimentations of a magical nature. The most prominent being the creation and breeding of flying polar owlbears, a cross between polar bears and giant owls.

The second section is mostly destroyed but a few fragments are still legible. Some of the words you can still make out are as follows:

....these demonic white winged creatures are the scourge of the Cloudscape mountains. No one is safe from their.......(holes chewed through the parchment)

their black leader, Yesorkh Pahyeh is a most evil creature, able to poss....(more holes) any who approach her.

To this end, I have trapped her soul and placed it.....(more holes) that she may never again bring pestilence upon.....

The last few pages must refer to the skyfish that you now seek.

.....magical fish that flies through the sky.....
.....use the white column to access the dome of force.......
"Dom" removes the dome, freeing the fish.
"Fil" and "Fir" fire the lights from its eyes.
Given a direction, it will go.....

There is also a rather noticeable large amethyst sitting upon the desk while the red sphere still floats in the air nearby.

Halo floats up through the hole in the ceiling and discovers the apex of the tower. This fifth and final level feels cold and is clearly the source of light that shines throughout the tower. The floor is as clear as glass and there is a large glowing white column in the center of the room that reaches from floor to ceiling.

Blodget, halfling thief:

The soaking wet hobbit calls to any great, wise, wizardly heroes that are near. "Beggin' your pardon! Kindly come and have a look at this, if you please!" indicating the bookworm gnawed passages of interest.

Then his eyes get lost in all the dazzling facets of that beautiful amethyst.

Xano thanks Morgi for the lift to the next level. Thank you my friend. She then notices Blodget eye balling the jewel. Oh! I would not touch that till one of our friends with magic skills are able to tell whether it safe to touch.

Touch nothing! Mira seems almost fearful. Much is at play here that cannot be seen... But some we can hear. We must ferret out what is and what is not true and right. Morgi, do you not possess the Magic Sight? That at least would give us a place of beginning. I will follow Sir Halo until then. With that she zips her broom to the top level.

Halo calls down through the floor, telling any who listen what he sees in regards to the white column and light.

"Before we make any decisions, we should take into account that this might be the safest place to rest and recover ourselves before we set out after the cloud giant castle. It might be our last chance to recooperate!"

be careful wizards with your books, bookworms abound :)

"Aye Mira, now that we know it is clear, let me take a look around." Morgi casts Detect Magic and begins to look around, the griffon and library mostly.

The lawful good paladin now suggests that the party should rest here, knowing full well that with every second that is wasted being comfortable, more and more of the poor bird people are being ripped from their homes and senselessly murdered.

Morgi cast his spell of magic detection and takes a quick solo flight through the tower.

On the first level, the walls and floor have melded back to normal and the table and chairs are now gone. The very walls of this tower glow with the obvious sign of being made from magic.

The second level still looks exactly the same. The walls of this place also glow of magic, as does the floating sphere that follows the druid around harmlessly.

On the third level, one section of the crystal clear walls gives off the telltale sign of being magical in nature, as does the floating sphere. The glass griffon shines so bright with magical powers that Morgi must shade his eyes from the glow. Even the words in gold lettering inlaid into the floor in a circle around the griffon glow as magical.

The fourth level reveals little magic. Only a few random books glow slightly but their pages look to be entirely destroyed by whatever is chewing up the library's contents. The only thing that glows of magic in here is the floating sphere next to the chair and desk.

Morgi then joins Halo and Mira on the top floor of the tower, leaving the rest of the party down below. The white glowing column in the center of the room shows that it is highly magical. When the druid then looks at the floor of this level, he can see that it too holds some magical powers within its glassy state.

You all begin to notice that the temperature is definitely much cooler up here. There is a network of what appear to be struts within the clear floor. The struts are each about a foot wide and seem to be supporting a decorative golden circle that is inlaid into the clear floor. The golden circle surrounds the solid white glowing pilar.

"Let's regroup and discuss a plan," Morgi offers. When they are together he relays the results of his fly through. "It seems to me that melting the gold ring out of the upper floor, then maybe through the next, over the top of the griffin." He thinks out loud.

"But before we actually do anything, I must rest and recover some of the grace."

Xano- Looks about the room she is in. She agrees with Morgi. I am in need of healing if there is any to be given. I am near death.
