Brok adjusts his gear as he carefully watches the exchange between the ranger and the half-orc. He stifles a knowing grin when no one is looking. He believes Yarl is only acting out of bravado, as is common enough of at least half his racial makeup, and must be feeling somewhat isolated among what he surely realizes is a tight and loyal group. It's not unusual that he is posturing to compensate. Thankfully, Francisco has a cool and level head. But just like any man, he's got his limits.

The squire steps over near the others and waves his hand at the fort, offering a diversion, namely his opinion. "Yes, well to be honest then, we don't need any of those... military types nosing into our's and our Lady's affairs anyway. In fact, I'd wager that they would be the curious types and probably inclined to infringe upon our business. Yea, let us leave them to their own devices and... minimal capacities then, shall we? Better we retain our party's privacy and keep discretionary facts amongst ourselves!"

Brok takes another reconnoiter about the walls and ramparts of the keep and makes to head out with the others again. When they do depart, he will remain at rearguard position, using his hood to his advantage to try to determine if anyone is paying them any extra attention or begins to follow them.

Let us press on. I don't care to sleep between stones walls again, nor in the shadow of them.

Also, Orc, I have funny story for you. I knew a man, an outsider, he comes to us demanded shelter in our vaillage. We do this, he spits on the ground and pesters the women, disrespects our elders. Druids warn him of the consequences of his actions.... I make long story short, a snake bit of his genitals.

Funny in a painful sort of way, Nunyet says bemused. Pressing on is always best, yes!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Francisco fails to suppress a laugh as they head back on the road.

"Some people make the mistake of thinking Cis is all bark and no bite! In truth, he's a bit of both." He winks at Cis and grins, then swats the mule on the rump and says, "Come on now, get along, you!"

Day 2 – an hour before sunset

You continue to make your way along the road. At one point you come to a fork and consult your map. Continuing north would take you to the pass, and turning west would take you to the temple. You are now about a mile and a half west of that fork, along what is known as the Newiron Road. This road is less traveled, and in not as good of upkeep as the Griel Route.

As you crest a small hill, you are met by a party of four men standing near the side of the road. Their leader notices you and raises his hand requesting you to stop. He speaks: "Hello, gents. We seem to be lost and are hoping you could help us. We're looking for Lochhurst but we do not have a map. Have you heard of this town and, more importantly, can you direct us to it?"

Francisco pulls up on the lead on the mule to get him to stop, maintaining what distance there is between the two parties. His other hand shifts the grip on his crossbow to make it easier to bring to action. He is weary of strangers who get lost on main roads...

They all are armed, but their weapons are not in-hand. They look a little road-weary and scraggly.

We come from the west. He points back over his shoulder, then looks up to examine the position of the sun in relation to their location.

"So it's just the four of you, then?" Francisco asks with a leeriness to his voice.

Without waiting for a reply, he brings his crossbow up to his shoulder, aiming it, not at the four men, but at the bushes on the opposite side of the road.

"You wouldn't mind if I take a shot at the 'rabbit' in those bushes there?"

Seeing the ranger adopt a ready pose Nunyet takes out a throwing hammer and prepares for action.

Brok, from under the cover of his hood, closely scrutinizes the four men to see if he recognizes any of them or any visible heraldry on their gear, armor or weapons. While they begin to parley, he also looks around to see if he notices anything out of the ordinary, such as someone hiding nearby or watching from a distance.

When he sees Francisco raise his crossbow and Nunyet draw his hammer, he steps to the side to have a clear line of fire, bow to hand and arrow nocked and smiles at the strangers. "Tis nothing personal, gentlemen! I beg you make no sudden movements whilst we confirm our suspicions to be folly. We would not want anyone innocent to get hurt now, would we?"

Day 2 – an hour before sunset
Round 1

Without reply to either Francisco or Brok, four more men spring from the bushes and rush across the road to attack.
Someone roll initiative please, and everyone declare your actions. If you can attack twice in a round, please let me know.

Initiative [1d6] = 2

Francisco gets 3/2 attacks/round with his readied crossbow. But since they're so close, I would assume he can't get but one shot off at the start of the round before he would have to drop it and engage in melee. Let me know if that sounds right or what you have in mind, Mr. GM. Regardless, here is his first shot...

To Hit, Light Crossbow [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6

"Bugger all robbers and thieves..."

Great damage roll. Horrible To Hit roll.

Nunyet throws his hammer and then takes out his heavy war hammer to melee.

Throwing hammer damage: [1d4+1] = 1+1 = 2, to hit: [1d20] = 1

Nunyet watches his throwing hammer sail away...
