Quest #47 "The Eyes Have It"

"I will get the others." He says to BJ, moving back to join Elroie and Feanol in the cell room. "Perhaps you may be able to provide some insight?" He responds to Elroie. "There must be something rather specific someone is looking for that the elves of the Shivering Forest may know about? The next door is untrapped now, so I suggest we each grab an armful of journals and crack on." He collects several books and begins perusing them while moving back to rejoin BJ and Maag.

Theo stuffs as many journals into his pack as he can into his pack and joins Andron, Maag and BJ in the room.

Alordan casts a glance over his shoulder as the ruckus behind moves to the next room. He moves to the wall closer to the door they entered to continue to keep an eye on the hallways out here.

With several other people now in the room, Maag decides to let someone else mess around with the purple orb. He goes back to lurking invisibly, about halfway between BJ and the big statue.

Torbath

"Thank you for that clarification. I would recommend we stick together." He waves his hand in the direction he heads.

Torbath will get to the central area near the door to enter the room with BJ and others.

This update will cover 2 rounds of action.

Still looking through all the journals, Elroie is understandably more intrigued by the contents than anyone else. He agrees with Andron and Torbath that they should stick together, but he can't seem to pry his nose from the book in his hand.

Theo and Andron grab up most of the loose journals before moving back across the rooms to be with the others. Any quick perusal of their pages shows further incoherent ramblings of people who were locked away for too long. Despite their lack of helpful content, Elroie still seems obsessed with these writings, staying right where he is as he absentmindedly pages through them.

BJ just stands there without opening the door, since her question wasn't answered. The purple blob slowly floats across the room towards her, stopping a few feet away. "I wish there were something we could do for these poor spirits, but I have no idea what might help them. I don't suppose any of you know?"

Once the others get themselves into position, they notice that Feanol and Elroie haven't followed them into the next room yet. Then, without explanation, the stone floor begins to tremor and shake violently again, but this time, the shaking doesn't stop.

It takes a few moments to regain proper footing during the trembling episode, when Feanol eventually appears again across the main room, standing in the doorway to the room Elroie is reluctant to exit. She speaks loudly over the rumbling to Alordan and Torbath, the only ones who can actually see her. "The Elf seems certain he will find something important in the books, so he wants to continue reading them. What is happening with this place? Why is the floor shaking like this?"

"Oh, yer need a plan?" says Maag. "Well, as der brains of dis outfit, dat is sumfin' dat I 'appen to specialize in. Let us find out wot is goin' on".

Maag walks over and touches the purple blob.

"If nothing else, we certainly can't stay here. Miss BJ, please try the door." Moving now to the open doorway to the main hall, "Miss Feanol, we are leaving, please collect Mr. Elroie and the remaining books, unless he chooses to await what these tremors reveal."

He then regards the purple blob of lost souls and the remains next to the black portal. "There were no remains in the cell, so that suggests those who were trapped eventually merged? I wonder if these journals somehow played a role." He moves to the blob and proffers a journal.

Torbath

Torbath will enter the room to be ready to advance with the group after BJ and others presumably move through the door.

I wish I knew what I was doing wrong that makes half the players ignore this game so often.

Feanol braves the intense tremors in the floor, moving back to the doorway across the hall to speak with Elroie again.

Nodding towards Andron, BJ tries the final door. Finding it locked, she pulls out her tools to pick it open. "This shouldn't take long."

Maag moves up and touches the floating purple blob behind her, feeling nothing but a slight resistance inside the strange anomaly. He gets no impression whatsoever from this odd entity.

However, once Andron steps forward to offer up one of the journals, the blob moves towards him, enveloping his outstretched hand. He is instantly bombarded with an intense reaction that feels like several voices all shouting in his mind at once. Though unable to make heads or tails of the actual message they are trying to send, he senses a distinct urgency from these voices all the same.

Torbath moves forward, ready to follow the others through the door, once it's opened.

Feanol returns to the room, reiterating that Elrioe said he is going to remain behind to read more from the fascinating journals.

Then the floor suddenly stops shaking again, leaving the rooms feeling relatively normal again.

"Yer wot?" says Maag in disbelief. "I offer yer der Finger of Friendship an' yer wanna talk to Pointy 'ead instead? Wot 'as 'e got dat I 'ave not?"

"Look at yer. Yer a purple blob floatin' around in a dungeon. It is not like you 'ave a bunch of people lined up to take yer out for a romantic dinner."

"Suit yerself", he mutters grumpily, and goes back to standing in his previous position against the wall. He makes a bet with himself that the gargoyle will spring to life as soon as BJ opens the door.

Alordan keeps an eye on the main room and an ear on the room behind him. Hearing Maag dispense his usual wit, he figures they are, for lack of any better description, in good hands....for now.

He is so overwhelmed by the cacophony of thoughts in his mind that he almost misses Feanol's return and report. "They are reacting to the journal ... I cannot understand them, too many voices ... yet, urgent." He looks towards Feanol, then to the journal still clutched in his hand. "We need to wrest that book from Elroie. Immediately. Alordan, Theo, can you assist?"

He then turns back to the purple blob and considers his options. After a moment he hold the pseudo flame of the torch he carries under the journal, as if he intends to ignite the pages and closely monitors the blob's reaction

Aye, Andron. He dashes to Elroie, chainmail clinking. Uh, sir, you have to close the book and give it to me. It's causing trouble in the other room. He quickly assists the elf with closing the book and unhanding it.

As the others begin to move, another more disturbing and alarming thought enters his mind. The tremors began after the cell was opened ... he initially thought they were a precursor to a trap, and now he recalls the partial cave-in where it appears others attempted to chisel through the ceiling ...

He glances nervously upward, attempting to ascertain if the ceiling has moved ...

Torbath will move back within sight of the former prisoner and cast ESP targeting the freed prisoner.

Unstable Thinking

BJ watches the invisible voice of Maag having a personal moment after feeling no reaction from the purple blob, unsure if she should open the door anymore or not. "Should I wait till everyone is....." She is about to say the word ready when half the group suddenly charge out of the room.......again.

Andron shouts for Alordan and Theo to go and retrieve the journal from Elroie the Elf who remained back in the room across the hall. Once Theo does this, Torbath follows behind, hoping to cast a spell on their recently released prisoner friend. Alordan moves out of their way, but decides not to follow. (please see private thread before responding) Throwing her arms up in confusion by all the back and forth, Feanol follows the others outside the room, stopping near Alordan in the main hall.

After seeing the reaction from the purple blob, Andron holds his magic torch up to the journal, but gets no reaction from it whatsoever. When he looks up to the ceiling, he is relieved to see that nothing is about to drop from it to kill him.

Keeping his usual safe distance near the doorway, Torbath is confused when he looks into the room towards the bookshelf and doesn't see either Elroie or Theo inside. Considering that he just watched Theo rush into this room, not seeing anyone inside at the moment seems a bit odd. One thing he does notice from the doorway is that the iron bars covering the cell are now back in place again.

Andron drops the stack of journals to free his hand and inserts it back into the purple blob, concentrating intently to communicate with the souls to slow down.

Torbath will return the room with BJ and purple blob and report, "Everyone in the other room is missing. It is like they were never there and the cell door is locked again."
