Is there anything as useless as a first-level magic user who's used his spell for the day?
Yes, a physically weak first-level magic user with poor aim.

Sasha swings away at the elusive creature. She steps out further to make room for Morgan, hoping there is enough for them both to fight together on the landing.

Morgan goes down before the other two, and stands on the landing behind Sasha. She'll swing at B3 with her sword:
Sword attack: [1d20+5] = 4+5 = 9, damage [1d8] = 1

Dagg still not done being annoyed by the bats continues to try and fight them off. Sword attack (Lvl 1): [1d20+1] = 13+1 = 14 to hit [1d6] = 2 dmg

Round 4
The group already below ground receives some reinforcements in the form of Bingus and Morgan. Before the newcomers have an opportunity to attack however, Dagg, Sasha, and Siirist continue to wage their individual battles; none successfully. Bingus and Morgan also fail to connect with their intended targets.

The pair of bats battling Dagg continue to find vulnerabilities in the plate armor worn by the dwarf. Siirist deftly avoids being bitten again, but Sasha is not so fortunate and the bat against her latches on and inflicts a healthy wound.

Bingus holds his dagger at the ready. If a bat attacks him, he stabs at it with a shaking hand.

Sasha gets frustrated that she cant seem to hit the thing hard enough to tickle, so she changes her tactics. Instead of flailing away aimlessly, she decides to try to extend her existence a few more seconds. She reaches into her side pouch and pops the cork on the potion bottle that she took from Welby. She thinks of him lying dead in the sand as she chugs it down, the whole while trying not to be killed herself by this seemingly invulnerable bat.

Dagg keeps swatting at bats with his sword. Sword attack (Lvl 1): [1d20+1] = 10+1 = 11 to hit [1d6] = 5 dmg

Round 5
Dagg and Sasha avoid being bitten, but the winged creature menacing Siirist is able to land a successful bite, dropping the elf, while at the same time being struck down by the elf's blade. Siirist tumbles, and nears the edge of the chasm, but remains on the rope bridge. Sasha forgoes attacking and instead reaches into her side pouch, producing the potion bottle of Welby's she had been carrying. Popping the cork, she chugs it down. All remaining combatants fail to land successful blows, and the bats continue to prove to be challenging foes.

Bingus swings his arm like a windmill, trying to stab any bat that flies by. He's just as likely to stab himself, it seems.

Sasha feels better from the potions magic and it seems to help her aim as well. She swings down hard at the disgusting winged rat.

Round 6
Once again, the bats attack at the same time as the group. The bat buzzing around the foot of the bridge misses Sasha with its bite; the last action the creature will ever make as Sasha's return strike is powerful and true. Dagg continues to fend off the attacks of a pair of bats, and suffers his first scratch as one of the flying menaces manages to find an exposed area in his armor. His retaliatory strike narrowly misses.

Two bats remain, both battling Dagg.

Bingus runs over to the prone elf. "This sharp-eared fella spends more time on his ass than on his feet!" he exclaims as he pulls his healing kit out and tries to address the injury.

Morgan moves forward on the bridge but only after she yells up at the two still above that there is now room for them to come down if they want.
