Character Generation
Re: Character Generation
Anyone interested in connections with Throg?
Re: Character Generation
Sure. Probably have to be from more than 8 years back (Walt was pretty tied up), but I see Throg is 46 - Walt is 50 and was an explorer scout for twenty years, so lots of places.Anyone interested in connections with Throg?
Looks like Walter and Throg both have the “exemplary service to IISS” event close in time. Maybe they are connected with that?
Walt’s specifics for that are for the survey of exploring the Gvurrdon Sector.
He was recognized for it in 1092, but I’m sure that was likely a multi year survey/exploration.

Re: Character Generation
1) Regina is TL-12 but like Earth, access to stuff higher tech than local is possible.
TL-12 or less: 100% Book Price
TL-13: 110% of book price (Available from Efate)
TL-14: 120% of book price (Available from Rhylanor or Magash or Zhodani Consulate or Uthith and Ughz in Vargr Space)
TL-15: 130% of book price (Available from Rhylanor or Magash)
TL-16 or more: Unavailable pre-game
n.b. Aslan specific stuff is limited to TL-12
2) Assuming a standard IISS Detached Duty Operating License:
- Basic Vacc Suits (TL12, Soft, Human Shaped - Two sizes: Some too big and some too small),
- Basic Emergency Equipment,
- Ships Locker Stuff,
- Ships Safe,
- Housekeeping Supplies (IISS Standard),
- Fuel,
- Some sort of Vehicle (up to 4 dTons),
- Some sort of Probe Drones,
- Whatever stuff the previous users left aboard (Anything from nothing, to the nth generation of their escaped pet critters
)
- Whatever stuff the computer reset didn't clear

Re: Character Generation
You have all been passing through the same ports enough that you'll all have a nodding acquaintance with each other...but specific prior missions will add flavour.
From the Connections skills, remember only two count and they can be applied to ANY skill (other than J-o-T) and cannot raise the skill above 3.
The Skills Package will be the Investigator Package - and there will be 5 of you to share those between!
i.e. Advocate 1, Admin 1, Investigate 1, Persuade 1, Stealth 1, Streetwise 1, Electronics 1, Deception 1 and Gun-Combat(Any) 1.
Those with permanent relationships will have Owned, Mortgaged or Rental living spaces (Your choice) that they contribute to. Separated characters will have Alimony for children under 18 (where they are aware of their existence)! Single characters will have some form of accommodation on Regina - Assume SOC appropriate Property, if Owned, will cost 130 times SOC specific monthly expenses value! (Adjusted by Broker skills)

Term 1. Did you take the +1 EDU from graduation? Looks like you did - but just checking
Term 2. You say Naval Officer in the title, but you aren't an officer until after the event has taken place and you get your commission.
When you were commissioned, was it in Bridge or Engineering? (Given your predilection for Gunnery, I'd guess bridge). Anyway, the Melee(Blade) skill from being a midshipman on the bridge track is missing from your CV. p.s. Yes, they insisted on Blade even if you did use it like a meat cleaver. That might explain the dismembering ("Joint" should be been "joined" I think) of the gambling circle!
It is during this term that the Fourth Frontier War was fought. From a Darrian Perspective, you were serving well away from the Entropic worlds (Where the fighting was)aboard a Mire Guardship. Hence the gambling?
Term 3. All looks good. The diplomatic mission was to the Duchy of Regina as part of the post-war negotiations. As a Midshipman you got to run errands and sneak about the palace it seems. At the end of this term I'll assume were you placed on assignment to the IISS by the Darrian Navy.
On promotion to Lieutenant you'd have got Leadership-1 except you'd already picked that as the service skill. If you swap the service skill to Language(Galanglic)+1 then you wouldn't lose the leadership because the promotion skill would get it back...and you really need to speak the lingo!
Term 4. Other than ageing per note above, all good. You were assigned to a survey of the Vargr Border in Uthe and Firgr subsectors. You gain a commendation from the IISS for your dedication. The +1 shows that.
n.b. IGS Shoulder patch

Term 5. Other than ageing per note above, all good. Same survey carries on. You learn to sail on Ougzdaelzoerrgh (Gv2040). The Contact is your Vargr sailing instructor, who is also a fixer.
Term 6. Other than ageing per note above, all good. You gain another commendation from the IISS for your dedication. The +1 shows that.
Term 7. See aging note above. The ship lost is the 500 dTon, Jump 4 vessel "ISS Beneath the Surface". It was taken by Pirates at Ueghrrozue (Gv2339) and now graces the fleet of the Kforuzeng. You haven't noted that you gained an enemy as a result of the loss of the ship, or that, as a result of reaching the rank of Senior scout, you learned Pilot 1.
As the ship used by the party will be a Scout Vessel, the ship share is actually just a capital investment. The choice is...Tukera Lines (Megacorp) Stock. Oberlindes Lines (interface line) Stock. A small line (Connors Ishikis) registered on Ruie running subsidised mail carriers () on the Regina-Ruie route. A free trader operating on the Spinward Main in the Regina Subsector. The risk:reward ratio varies.

Sorry, Your right, I put that as my header to the term, not that I was one. MGv2 has officers of ENG and GUN together.
Funny I left out melee - blade, because I was going to ask you for Melee - axe instead.

Your right I did not specify Enemy, sorry, so Vargars, lets say I rigged explosives to go off later after a large portion of the vargr were on board, killing a few and making the survivors mad and after me?

Re: Character Generation
@Ythgar: I've already suggested a connection with Walter. I assume my university experience was in a college at the University of Regina, and we both have the "political movement" event. I think you have a term more than me and therefore were leaving college as I was going in, but maybe you were a senior figure in the movement when I joined. I as a player don't have a strong preference for any of the political movements described, so if you tell me which one you were involved in I can pick the same. Are you OK with my research org collaborating with the scout service to transport me after I told them I had an old college colleague working for them?
@Ateno: I'm happy to have a connection to Throg. Sadly I don't think your time in the marines overlaps with any of my missions gone bad, or I'd suggest you were in on a rescue mission. Maybe the Scout Service was called in to give him a discreet exit or something and Throg personally extracted him?
For skills, I'd like to grab Science (archaeology) 1 for my relationship with Walter, and a rank of Investigate for my connection with Throg. If nobody has a preference on group skills, I'd prefer the rank in Advocate or Admin, as I think it suits his concept.

The Term 2 comment about the Gambling ring still applies - but the guardship will have been at Yori (SM2110) not Mire.
The term 3 then becomes being at the Imperial-Zhodani negotiations at Esalin (SM1004) rather than at Regina. The comment about the Darrian Navy is moot. The skill comment would apply...just Galanglic is moot as you have it.

Melee (Blade) includes anything with a sharp edge. Just don't hit the enemy with just the handle - That's Melee (Bludgeon)!Any chance of Axe vs blade? The Term 2 comment about the Gambling ring still applies - but the guardship will have been at Yori (SM2110) not Mire.

Re: Character Generation
FYI - Walter loves knives, it might be his sanity of 4 though . . .Why are boarding axes so much scarier than drones, guns and grenades?
Re: Character Generation
I have gotten through 4 terms mostly correctly I think. I'm using the most up to date book, I think. I made a roll without the character so I have the url (I had it at +3 but should have been +2) and I rolled on the physician table my first term in scholar when I should have only taken basic training skills. I used that roll for my next term. Unbelievably, every scholar term had a 5 roll for events.
I have paused here for two reasons. I am not sure if I should somehow change to scouts or keep on in scholar. The second reason is to make sure I am doing this all right. I will copy and paste what I have been using to keep track of everything.

Some suggestions and expansions:
Xenology is the equivalent of Sociology. Biology or Cybernetics may be more useful in a medical sense. However Xenology would dovetail with the other scientist on the team.
The second EDU at university should be +2 not +1
As a result of your University Career you will have been awarded an Batchelor of Medicine Degree with Honours by the University of Regina
What area of medicine are you working in? I'll need to create an appropriate set of prizes!
In term 2 you should have rolled for a general skill at level 1 before the survival roll - you don't just get basic training!
Term 3, you get to medic 3. You are awarded the title Doctor and a Doctorate in Medicine by the University of Regina.
Term 4...is that the unmodified ageing roll or the modified one. If unmodified then there's a -4 mod to apply.
Changing careers is simple...Pick a new career and roll for qualification. Depending on career, your university graduate status may give +2. Qualification failure is a pain but then it's Draft or Drifter!
Re: Character Generation
I thought Xenology was the alien equivalent of Biology so I will switch it to that. I am working in a pharmadynamics. Basically taking alien substances, mostly plants and seeing how they affect sofants mostly humans. He uses drones on planets to find unknown plants and sometimes animals with substances that he might be able to turn into useful drugs. He does occasionally have to get his hands dirty dissecting things or repairing injuries.
When I started my career I thought you got both basic training and a roll but when I read the rulebook I understood it to be instead of roll which is why the roll of one was used in my next term. It would have been used in term 2 so I will make a roll for term 3. I also understood graduation to give a +1 for a total of +2 if you graduate. More EDU is always better
Term 4 is my modified roll.
My question about changing careers is more on the do I need to join the scouts as a career? I am kinda happy where my character is now and to be honest those aging rolls scare me. I may go another term or two anyway. Just up and joining the scouts doesn't seem... organic. It feels kinda disjointed.
The other question I had involves his SOC score of 11. I didn't know if you had anything to say about that or should I just make some things up? I was thinking he might be an extra child for a noble family that has an Heir, a military child, and a church child. What do the ones after that do?

That works for me, Ekene and Walter connected through the political movement.Enoch wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 3:36 pm @Ythgar: I've already suggested a connection with Walter.
The people summary says Ekene and Walter are 8 years apart, but could still work.
See Walter's timeline for details re: the movement he was involved in, and the ally and enemy he has from it. (It's a spoiler button after his basic sheet info).

That sounds like a match, my last 12 years were in and around the Vargr, so match!Ythgar wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 9:11 pmSure.
Yes GM?

@Ateno: I'm happy to have a connection to Throg. Sadly I don't think your time in the marines overlaps with any of my missions gone bad, or I'd suggest you were in on a rescue mission. Maybe the Scout Service was called in to give him a discreet exit or something and Throg personally extracted him?
i think a match would be in my first term, and your second. I was going thru naval college and you were doing academic stuff. Guest lecturer or something? We met and became friends?
