Rifle Scope
Moves Range one step closer (Extreme to Long, Long to Short, Short to Point Blank). Cannot be used against moving targets, cannot effectively be used while moving. (So in effect, only useful for sniping (one first braced shot, with surprise). Can be used as a telescope, but usually with a focal length fixed at 600 yards (Extreme range for a buffalo hunter's buffalo rifle. The many, many buffalo hunters being the most numerous customers for the item).
Price: $30 - $45
PCs
PCs

Horror at Briargate (AD&D 1E) - Faron, droll human thief
Lost City of Eternity (AD&D 1E) - Torix, proud Pictish barbarian
Ghostal (Dungeon Goons) - Delx, canny musical wanderer

The pros (ateno, Rex and Thumper) say no, they can't. I suppose you could, with some time. But the regular steel sites would have been removed to install the scope. Converting back would probably need a gunsmith. Seems like a rifle with a scope would mostly be for a first sniping shot. Unless the target isn't moving after the sniping shot (like in the "Lonesome Dove" scene in my post above).

Sounds very realistic to me.

Great scene. The rule seems reasonable to me. Like commented on before the real skill with both ladder sights and scopes at long range is judging distance.
