Sai

Sneaks forward past everyone. Trying to be as quiet as possible walks forward hugging the wall. A pinch of sand in hand, he peeks around the corner into the alcove. Letting his elven eyes adjust until he can see the heat sources there and tosses the sand into the air casting the sleep spell in the center of the mass.

Sai sneaks forward, peering around the corner, taking note of a couple of barrels and some bales of hay in an upper chute. Farther to his right, he hears (and smells) the unmistakable sounds of canines. Slipping around the corner, he spies three pairs of "eyes" in the distance. As they stand up, sniffing the air, he casts a simple sleep spell upon them...and all three of the wolves yawn and lay down for a nap.

Good plan! You have three sleeping wolves and the corridor ahead of you, which looks like it might open or turn about 40 feet ahead.

Returns to the others.

They are all 3 asleep but will not stay that way for very long. What do we want to do about them? I can not injure defenseless animals my Deity would be unpleased. I understand they are wolves but they are just being wolves and have been trained wrongly. There are also a couple of barrels around the corner in the alcove.

"I will do it if we think it best. Unless we manage to get out of this area before they wake, they'll track us down."

He waits for a majority opinion.

Montego uses the crates and barrels to quickly cage the sleeping wolves, or uses the hay bails and crates to block the entryway, whichever appears the most feasible. If neither are, he pulls out his coil of rope and bids the elves to take an end and help him with tying all of the wolves legs together.

If they are not normal wolves, and are creatures tainted with evil, he gives them a quick death with the tip of his sword as they sleep.

“Their guard dogs are down. Let’s see what lies beyond that next bend. If we can get to a good hiding spot before these things wake up, their yelping might make the perfect diversion to split up their numbers.”

Muldgarr helps Montego bind the wolves’s legs together, so as they can’t easily chew thru the rope. Whispering, “That should do it!”

"Works for me." He moves to help box up or tie the wolves.

He'll take the opportunity to check the contents of the barrels.

The wolves are down and when you enter the narrow cave, you find them in their pens, with the doors open. They are snoozing so you may tie them, gag them, or kill them, or just pen them in and get out before they wake up.
Cassius checks the barrels and finds one full of fresh water, and the other about half-empty, containing some type of dried meat. It is very lean...could be venison. The hay is likely for the wolves bedding.

Creeping up to the next turn...

Adelphocles

As they duck into the cave, it is clear that the centaur is reluctant. He looks at his heavy lance and bow and stashes them away leaving his hands free other than the shield strapped to his arm. He makes a deep sound of discontentment but otherwise keeps his comments to himself. Still, it is little wonder that he takes up the rear.

Cassius

"You want to just lock them back in the pens?" He whispers to Montego. He takes a piece of the dried meat and tastes it.

Sai

Closes the pens and locks them in. Kicking himself for not Praying for Animal Friendship, but knowing with this group healing is more important.

Well that was easy. Hope the rest are the same way.

He re draws his sword and shield to the ready.

Montego agrees with just shutting the cages, even going so far as to toss some of the meat into the cages to further occupy the wolves once they awaken.

He moves back to the passage and quietly sneaks up for a look around the next bend, hoping to see some light ahead.

Kranston helps shut in the wolves, glad they didn't have to kill them. Though he doubts the wolves would return the favor were the roles reversed.

He peeks down the passage ahead, looking for any pits or stone traps meant to waylay intruders.

Kranston admires the stonework and also checks for any type of pits or traps...and finds none.
Having shut in the wolves, Montego and Cassius move out, easing around the corner of the next bend and stopping dead in their tracks....

No ten feet away are three Orcs. They currently have their backs to the tunnel. Somewhere beyond them several Orc voices can be heard. If they should turn around, there is no way to miss the intruders to their lair...

Montego slowly reverses his step and pulls the others back to the wolf tunnel where he whispers what he saw.

“Anyone have ideas? Maybe the hawk could fly in at them through one of the buildings above to create a diversion?”

“Or, we pour oil along the walls of this long tunnel, trying to keep it off the floor if we can. Then we call as many of them out as we can get, and light them up once they’re packed in. If we fight them just outside the cave mouth, we should have an advantage as they will be bottlenecked inside the burning passage.”

He looks to the others, including the henchmen, to see if they have any better ideas.

Restless and eager, Dorin says, "I say we rush 'em and take 'em down...hard! They be spineless Orcs! They will flee when faced with so many of us."

Adelphocleas hands the lantern back to Rusty. "I shall stay and make sure the wolves don't cause a ruckus, while also guarding the back entrance. I am not made for tight quarters in these mines."

"I love an elaborate plan as much as the next dwarf," says Kranston. "Why not do both?"

Montego puts a hand on the excited dwarfs shoulder and looks to Sia again.

“Can you do that sleep trick again? This time on the three guards?”
