Yorick won't leave without his sword. But as long as it is returned he is ready to leave.

I thought we were getting our weapons first?
Or is the thought that if we are leaving unannounced that they would not first give us our weapons?
We could tell them that we leave at first light and need our weapons now.

I wouldn't let you leave without your weapons :) What kind of evil bastard do you think I am  Well... I wouldn't let you do that at the BEGINNING of an adventure ;)

I will tell you, though, that there has only been maybe 7-10 minutes of in-game time pass since they took your weapons. They aren't just going to give them back and let you stay the night. So, the options are:

1. Leave town now after getting your weapons.
2. Leave town tonight after getting your weapons - exploring around town, buying some stuff.
3. Staying the night (exploring town optional) and leaving in the morning with your weapons.

The choice has consequences in the adventure, so I don't want to make the decision for you. However I will, for the sake of the game, nudge us forward randomly (effectively by rolling d3) if I don't hear from enough people to make a majority. If you guys want to nominate a shot-caller or something, that would be good for future stuff, too. I am fine with however the group wants to handle stuff like this as long as it ends with a process that has the potential to move the game forward more often than not so that we don't stall out. That seems to be a death sentence around here ;)

I'm good for either options 1 or 2.

i brought up the weapons since we were discussing leaving town as unobtrusively as possible so we didn't tip of the suspected spy in town. Asking for weapons before we 'snuck' out of town seemed a dead give-away.

I'm good with 1 or 2, but Tomas is pretty parched after that walk to town and wouldn't mind tipping a pint in the tavern.

Arot wants his axe and other "weapons" back as soon as possible, some rope and whatever else for fording the river, and to be back outside of town as soon as possible.

Filibert is definitely more comfortable out in the 'wild' so his preference would be to leave town as soon as possible.

If people need supplies #2 sounds like the best option.

I wouldn't say it is impossible, but the consequences may be dire if you are caught. These are your potential employers, after all. You are leading them to believe that you are here to help, but if a band of adventurers were caught trying to take their confiscated weapons back, the townsfolk might think you are up to no good. They have only laid eyes on you this evening, and they are kind of on edge because they are fighting away bandits and other foes on a regular basis. They can't be sure you are who you say you are. The rest of the party could be under the spell of this half-orc priest-type you are traveling with, and that somewhat-devious-looking character (Alias) you are travelling with doesn't help either ;)

Since the bell was rang to bring attention to your arrival to everyone in the town, your presence is already known. It's very unlikely that sneaking away will help you, as you do not know the way to Gritznak's hideout (it will take you longer to find it), and the spy surely does. A few hours head start is not likely to help that much. I like your thinking, though!

Since Tomas went to the tavern I assume that we had a little extra time before we high-tail it out of town. We could always say that we're staying in town tonight and have a couple of our sneaky types to post watch outside of town to intercept anyone leaving town under cover of darkness and heading north toward that river ford.

So, am I to assume that you guys are sharing this plan with Eryl discretely while in the tavern? I want to get us moving, looks the holidays have slowed us down :)

If the group is all for it, then I think it would be wise to share it with him, yes. Unless of course he's our spy! :-) Perhaps he could discreetly provide a couple of our party with some different weapons so no one is alerted to them slipping out of town under cover of night. Our own gear will be collateral against anything he would lend our spy-catchers.

Based on our first meeting I don't think that Eryl likes our group. My vote would be to collect our weapons and leave town. We have insight on a possible fording location. We could scout that area and hopefully find some clues about Griznak's whereabouts.

That would be a reasonable assumption. Based on that though I would venture to guess that he is not the spy as a spy would more than likely try to befriend us to try to siphon off any information they could.
Given that I'm not sure how receptive he would be to our spying idea but I say we should give it a try. Any information we can gain will be helpful.
Otherwise I say the sooner we start moving the better. The less time the spy has to alert Gritznak the better.

So, my choices are:
1 - Stay the night and see if we can catch the spy
2 - Leave as soon as possible

I agree, let's get moving. Hanging around only gives them more time to conspire against us.

I would say I'm for choice 1. If we catch the spy we ease Eryl's suspicions, gain the town's gratitude, blind the gnoll bandits with regard to what's happening in the area, and have a safe retreat if we should get injured in our explorations and need to recuperate. And it's only 1 night and not a lot of risk. If nothing pans out we can head off in the morning.
