Xara
"Maybe we weren't identified by that mob. Those cultists won't tell anyone, and who knows that the guild master is even dead?" She looks around at the massive task of the warehouse. "Let's try to do this properly, we have the rights to all of this. Sneaking around will only damage that claim, right?"
"I propose we get out of here, wait until morning, get that will we paid for, and then go to that office and get this place opened up."

Ishbak Arus
We don't actually have the rights to any of this. Well... Ishbak pauses, pointing at Og. He does- whatever he can carry. We get a portion of the cash after they sell everything else. If we take an item or twelve now, we don't share with anyone else. And we can still get our share of everything else. But, if you want to do it the legal way...
Just remember, if there's something in here that you want, you only get 10 percent of It's value. Og could take it- if it's something he can carry, but at that point, it's his.

Ishbak Arus
Anyway, this is...odd. Ishbak will examine the desk and chain, trying to figure out what it's purpose might have been.
I do believe the three of us each received something specific to us, as well as a share of the warehouse value, while Og gets whatever he can carry.

Her brows go up as she listens to Ishbak. "You're right. He (she points to Og) gets what he can carry before the auction, but we get cash." She looks around in the dark. "I'm good with cash, but maybe there's something specific I would like more. Pity it's so dark."
"I definitely don't want to be here at daybreak, we risk losing everything."

Oh, we'll still get the cash- well, perhaps not if we're caught in here- but hopefully there are some items we can take as well.

The wooden desk is stained with dark spots that have soaked into the pale wood. Perhaps it once held a log of inventory, the scroll or ledger chained to it by the now-broken bronze links?
Anyway, the sheer quantity of stuff in the warehouse is overwhelming. An hour or more has gone by since you entered. You feel in your weary bones that only a few hours remain until sunrise. What do you do?

Is there any specific thing that any of you hope to find? There's enough stuff in here that aimless browsing has not produced anything of interest. A focused search might be more productive.

Re: Chapter 1: A Knife in Darkness
Well, Og would be looking for valuables - money being the first thing. Otherwise, he doesn't really have a clue as to what specific thing he'd be looking for. The only real specific thing mentioned during the reading of the will was his 'personal items' and that's not too specific but may point to something that indicates where those may be stored in there (assuming they are in the warehouse at all).
Re: Chapter 1: A Knife in Darkness
Lathi
Lathi is looking for something unusual, preferably small enough he can carry it out himself.

Probably Ishbak got those from the well in the Behruz house.ravenn4544 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 2:19 pm The only real specific thing mentioned during the reading of the will was his 'personal items' and that's not too specific but may point to something that indicates where those may be stored in there (assuming they are in the warehouse at all).
Lathi remembers a finely carved statue of a rhinoceros, in the modern Realist style. Many people would turn their noses at such gauche craftsmanship, but something about it intrigues him. It looked like it was worked from ebony, which is an eastern wood found mainly in Lathi's homeland. It is very hard to carve and unforgiving of careless work.
As far as Xara's interests, she doesn't know anything about warehouses or what's customary in them - aside from, usually one enters by the door during the day, not the window by night. She did feel a few bags containing kind of slithery metallic stuff that might be necklaces. Where were they ...?

Lathi will see if he can find the rhino, maybe there is a section of statues.

Re: Chapter 1: A Knife in Darkness
After a bit of stumbling and fumbling in the dim candlelight, Lathi finds the ebony rhino standing on top of a splintery crate. It is about the size of his hand, and quite heavy. It feels just a little warmer than the air. Not sure what to do with it?
Looking around for "personal effects," Og bumps into something cold and clinking that is hung up on a wooden frame about the shape of a human torso. It is a scale-mail hauberk, light bronze plates fastened to a knee-length leather tunic.
Xara finds a bag of loose metal that feels from the outside like necklaces. Does she stick her hand into it or dump it out?
[_2d6] = (6+1)=7 let's see what this does

Her excitement at finding a bag of interest is quickly tempered by a nagging thought in her head. She tries to carefully pour out some of the contents to examine.

Og eyes the pretty armor Greedily and will take that if he can. He’ll don it and cover with a ragged cloak if need be.

Anathotesh looks for some sort of documentation of corruption amongst the nobility.
Re: Chapter 1: A Knife in Darkness
post 400!
Anathotesh and Ishbak move away from the others, bringing the candle's light with them, to an area where wooden chests are stacked two and three high to either side of the main aisle. Dozens of chests.
Xara cautiously dumps the bag in the very dim light of the retreating candle. She hears the gold and silver slither from the silk and make that beautiful quiet noise that precious metals make when they rub together. Nothing else happens. After a moment she takes the necklaces in her hand and feels the fine flexure of the links. There are four necklaces. Two have small pendants that feel like precious stones. The light is too dim to see their colors.
Og eagerly dons the scale mail. It hangs on him with a comforting weight, like a cool hug of metal and leather. He clinks faintly when he moves, like a dangerous set of wind chimes.
Does Lathi have a pack or something to stow the rhino?
