Hard to know since I’m not sure he or she is even in this system.

Dzofin
Dzofin could likely get a message to his very shady cousin but can't see him wanting to meet Imperial authorities.
Ciencia
It seems Dzofin's cousin might be Dzenae Ungogz aka “Patch” aka Cap'n Patch of the Revenge aka "Anuekhs An Gzoug - the Flame that Burns". He is flagged on serial Imperial databases that Ciencia can of course access: Local ISS, NavInt, ImpInt and shared information from Ducal Agencies (Regina). She learns:
He is an alleged pirate and terrorist.
Current subject classification/status (per ImpInt Collace): Wanted (Dead)
Further (higher security grade) Intel states his flagship is an an Aeogz class corsair: Raersthog (Revenge). His flotilla is active in District 268 and has recently expanded by several hulls after a successful (and locally sponsored) anti piracy operation on Avastan (268). [OOC: If there is a certain irony here it was either lost on the report's author or "It's 268 - it's complicated" applies].
His group is connected to the Kforuzeng pirate band / suspected to be a splinter group from that band which is allied with the Outworld Coalition. His group is associated with Collace's smuggling fraternity / the collective criminal organization known as The Shore.
Highest grade Intel: he may lead an elite Vargr Fuernuzorg spec ops unit.
Needless to say Ciencia's close protection officers have a conniption fit over her proposed meeting.
Even if this individual could be found it seems unlikely he would put his furry head in the (Imperial) lion's mouth...

Once she gets the details, Ciencia raises a sculpted eyebrow. “I’m confident that even if your cousin was willing to meet with me, he probably isn’t connected to the kind of people we’d like to recruit for this. There will be limited uptake (usually incentive driven) as the Collace Vargr are second or third generation immigrants themselves now making good on planet.terrymixon wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 6:54 pmOnce she gets the details, Ciencia raises a sculpted eyebrow. “I’m confident that even if your cousin was willing to meet with me, he probably isn’t connected to the kind of people we’d like to recruit for this. I figured as much. She is more looking for off planet contacts and locations where less piraty Vargr live in large numbers that might be a good place to send a colony recruiting expedition. She doesn't expect that to happen on Collace but needs a target system that she can send some ships to to make the pitch.Tiglath wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 7:25 pmThere will be limited uptake (usually incentive driven) as the Collace Vargr are second or third generation immigrants themselves now making good on planet.terrymixon wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 6:54 pm

Oertsous/Firgr (Gvurrdon 3238) looks like a good target world. Extremely high population (60 billion), poor prospects for the majority of lower-class citizens, and an oppressive government that would likely make many eager to immigrate elsewhere. It would be a diplomatic mission to get the police state to allow open recruiting, but it could be an interesting RP experience for the PCs. It even has a corsair base.

What could possibly go wrong?Oertsous is a poor, high-population world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
This world is always on the edge of revolution as the common citizen struggles under extremely low wages. Much dissent is present.
It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by Vargr sophonts located in the Firgr Subsector of Gvurrdon Sector.
This world has a Vargr Corsair Base.

As he is quite proud of his cousin, Dzofin bristles and his ears fold back. "I can tell you know nothing really practical about my people. You have no charisma, no standing with any Vargr. Leadership must be earned if you seek to recruit even low status Vargr." He growls showing teeth. "The Vargr here are fat and satisfied and will not start off into the unknown. Even if my cousin will not meet directly with you he can connect you to others with charisma. The dregs are not what you want. You need leaders, Vargr leaders who are hungry. He almost certainly has lieutenants who will jump at the chance to follow you and properly recruit Vargr. Also remember my people are not your tame house dogs. We are hungry by nature. Can you lead with enough strength to master my people or will they run rampant in your pretty colony? Raising your eyebrow in disdain may work with your pet humans but it will not work with Vargr!"terrymixon wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 6:54 pmOnce she gets the details, Ciencia raises a sculpted eyebrow. “I’m confident that even if your cousin was willing to meet with me, he probably isn’t connected to the kind of people we’d like to recruit for this. Take 3 off your END.
Even though he stumbles, Dzofin is a trained warrior and strikes back (though at a -2) because of his awkward landing. She dodges (-4) faster than he expects again and manages to get clear. Just. If he hadn't had to dodge, he is sure he would have struck her.
Ciencia circled around, her grin turning feral. "Is that the best you've got? I thought you were a big, bad mercenary. Surely a princess isn't supposed to get a shot in like that. Bring it, big man. Your turn."
She is intentionally sacrificing her initiative and taunting him. Her small size doesn't quite seem to hold her presence. It's like she is somehow looming a bit taller, becoming a bit more menacing, even though she is still just a slip of a female human.
Re: 009: Talking Turkey at the Bartizan
Where do we get an awkward landing? I don't see anything in the basic rules that would give me a minus. My apologies for lack of familiarity.
Also she only gets her stat modifier for a Dodge. That's probably a three I would guess.

Re: 009: Talking Turkey at the Bartizan
Sorry. Minus 1. That's still a miss by 1 rather than 2. I added the awkward landing as flavor to explain the miss.every time a Traveller performs a Reaction, they will suffer DM-1 on their next set of actions.
She has Athletics (dexterity) loaded at 4, so that is where the -4 to hit came in when she dodged.DODGING
A Traveller who is dodging will inflict a penalty equal to their DEX DM or Athletics (dexterity), whichever is higher, to their attacker’s attack roll.
I've done so few of these that I'm reading as I go.

Re: 009: Talking Turkey at the Bartizan
That all makes sense but her effective dexterity modifier/skill is one less because she doesn't have the skill innately. The Dodge modifier should have been -3. I think I just hit. Again, I am having a wonderful time and I am learning a great deal. I don't mean to be argumentative but the Vargr in me wants the Princess to win fairly…terrymixon wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 1:04 amSorry. Minus 1. That's still a miss by 1 rather than 2. Dzofin grunted as the sweep caught him on the hip despite his best efforts to dodge. He growled to himself that the hit would've been much worse had he not moved when he did. Rolling with the strike he turned into her circle. He managed to land a glancing blow because it seemed she moved like quicksilver.terrymixon wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 12:57 amDzofin almost skips out of the way of her kick, but not quite. Dzofin continued to growl and bare his teeth. He drew on his own innate charisma and presence to maintain his morale as the fight continued. This princess was harder than he thought but even if she somehow managed to defeat him think of the fame he would gain for fighting the heir to the Third Imperium. "I don't want to cause you to cry by throwing everything I have that you at once. You may be fast but ultimately you are a soft skinned without proper teeth or claws. I'm sure if I was using my teeth you would faint from the terror."
He took advantage of the word banter and her giving him the initiative to feint with another leg strike and then moved in close to headbutt her in the nose. "You have fallen victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is: 'Never to get involved in a land war with an Aslan', but only slightly less well-known is this: 'Never go in against a Vargr when charisma is on the line'."
