Yrias
While the best is distracted looking at Keg, Yrias will try his luck and cast dancing lights in the direction the beast came from, in the hopes that he can distract it away from them.

The Knife
With not much else to do, The Knife decides to take a leaf out of Keg's book. He looks for a random piece of fruit or small branch to toss at the beast, babbling in panic as he does so.

Re: Quest #38 "Betwixt Water And Stone"
It's been over 2 days here so I am moving the action along.
Go For The Eyes Boo!
Starday, 27th of Goodmonth
Mid Afternoon, Sunny, Hot, Buggy
Keg climbs up higher in his tree, breaking off a dead branch to throw at the oncoming beast. He is tucked under the boughs far enough to avoid a bite from this creatures horrid mouth, but when he catches a glimpse of its eyes, the fighter cant believe how heinously ugly this odd being is. Save vs. Death, please
The Knife does his usual routine of hiding and babbling to himself. Wake follows suit, without the babbling, staying put and keeping quiet for now. Yrias casts a spell that brings into existence a fiery humanoid shape on the trial where the monster just came from, causing Amun to gasp aloud. Unfortunately, the abominable creature either doesn't see it, or ignores it completely.
Luther braces himself on a thick branch and fires a single sizzling arrow into the beasts ass end, clearly causing damage when the thing rears and stomps its massive legs into the ground. The huge ugly head on the long, weak neck slowly turns away from Keg, looking for the hairy bug that just stung it. Suddenly, a globe of bright light appears in the face of the monster. It shakes its head back and forth to rid itself of this blinding light to no avail.
Actions!
positions: no change
Keg (F3) AC:1 23/23
Luther (R4) AC:3 24/30
The Knife (T2) AC:4* 8/8
Wake (C1) AC:3 10/10 2/3 first
Amun (F1) AC:2 13/13
Yrias AC:5 8/8 3/3 1st RM, CL, DM 0/1 1st DL:2

Re: Quest #38 "Betwixt Water And Stone"
Sorry, Amun was just lurking to see how it played out. Still don't know if charging this fella is advisable for a lv 1 character...
Amun stays hidden but gets ready to sprint at the beast with her sword, depending on whether her companions, Keg in particular, manages to get away in the commotion caused by the lights.

Luther
Luther stays quiet, and puts two more arrows into the thing- aiming directly for the light covering its face.
Longbow [1d20+1]=6+1=7
whiff!
Longbow [1d20+1]=18+1=19
longbow damage: [2d4+1]=5+1=6

The Knife
The Knife remembers that he has Something That Might Help In This Situation and starts to rummage in his backpack to find it. Once he finds it, he waits to see what happens to Keg and the beast before heaving it down.

Re: Quest #38 "Betwixt Water And Stone"
Holding your action is always an option, but unless you post something to that effect, how would the DM know you were doing that?
Not sure what happened to Wake, but I will push the action along anyway.
Bright Eyes, Thumping Tail
Starday, 27th of Goodmonth
Mid Afternoon, Sunny, Hot, Buggy
Yrias starts another magical prayer as his dancing fire puppet continues its charade on the side of the trail.
Luther fires another pair of energy bolts from his magical bow, the second one sizzling into the ugly head of the braying beast.
The rest of the party stays put where they are, doing absolutely nothing to help out their desperate comrade.
Seemingly confused by its inability to see anything beyond the mystery bright light that suddenly appeared in its face out of nowhere, the stinking freak starts slamming its girth into the tree Keg is hanging onto for dear life. It swings its long tail rapidly, capped with a clublike appendage, but it just flails around without hitting anyone. (Keg can take a normal action if you can give me a successful [4d6] Dex check to prevent falling.)

Re: Quest #38 "Betwixt Water And Stone"
Understood.
Okay, that's it. Amun strides towards the horrid creature, as silent as possible, trying to stay out of its sight, and does her utmost to plunge her sword into it. Here goes nothing! Looks like she just has to traverse a 5' square to reach it.
Excuses in advance that I do not know all the rules, but if this edition of the rules have a "charge"'option, she'll charge, if the rules allow it!
2H sword, to hit: [1d20+1]=14+1=15, damage: [1d10+3]=6+3=9 (SM), [3d6+3]=13+3=16 (L)
Re: Quest #38 "Betwixt Water And Stone"
Edit: as per AD&D 1st ed DMG page 66 it seems possible. So she will, if the GM allows it.

Re: Quest #38 "Betwixt Water And Stone"
Oops! I think this delay was on me. Sorry!
Bright Eyes, Thumping Tail
Starday, 27th of Goodmonth
Mid Afternoon, Sunny, Hot, Buggy
Keg holds on for dear life as the blinded monster continues thumping into his tree. He tries to throw a dagger, but his aim is hampered badly by the shaking.
Yrias chants from his position in the jungle, eventually bringing a blessing in place that will aid the party in their fight.
Amun charges forward and slams her huge sword into the oddity, sinking it deep and eliciting a loud roar and lots of hot blood.
As Wake looks around for the source of the sudden bright light in the monsters eyes, he sees TK toss something at the monster next, shouting wildly about smoke coming or some other nonsense.
Luther continues firing his energy arrows into the beast, wounding it badly this time.
Just as the beast looks about to give up on its painful prize, the entire area behind it, including where Amun, Wake, and Yrais are currently positioned, suddenly becomes enveloped in a thick fog. Another frightened hard push from the behemoth cracks the base of Kegs tree, slowly sending it toppling with the northman still clinging to its sticky boughs.

Curses loudly saying things that bare no repeating amount civilized folk. And hits with a thud in the end.
