Brezebar the Magician

Brezebar draws a dagger, puffs out his chest and pushes the door open!

Vane hangs back a little ways, trying to keep an eye on the duergar and the passage behind the party for any unwelcome visitors.

Into the Chamber

Vane watches the duergar, and the deep dwarf is visibly agitated when Brezebar steps to the door and opens it.

A face appears on the door and screams at Brezebar, "Who dares to open the gates of doom?!" And as quickly as it appeared, it disappears. The duergar breaks for the barracks, calling out in fear, "It is to the Abyss!"

Brezebar is standing in an entry hall, before an open door leading into Lorcan's personal chamber. Holding aloft his lamp, the only illumination in the room, Brezebar can immediately see a modest bed and foot locker, wash basin and chamber pot, a desk in disarray, a small shelf, and a table covered in clay and stone ware. The room is filled with strange smells.

Eldrek, Fighter (HP 13/16)

Eldrek winces as Brezebar throws the door open and takes a couple of tentative steps backwards. "Uh...I sure hope you know what you're doing" he mutters.

Kargoth / at doorway

Kargoth, warhammer in hand, is with the others behind Brezebar as he opens the door. The cleric is expecting something, so the shouting door does not startle him too much. He sees the duergar flee and attempts to grapple the coward while giving Drog the order to subdue.

Brezebar the Magician

"Kill the dark dwarf," Brezebar hisses, "before he can raise an alarm!" Brezebar steps into the room, dagger and lantern held at the ready. He looks for any magical apparatus, and will also aim to stuff as much paper into his backpack as possible.

Oh no you dont! Vane yells as he lunges after the duergar and attempts to subdue him.

If the dwarf still manages to get away, Vane will do his best to turn him into a pin cushion.

Ramblings of a Madman

Vane pursues the fleeing duergar and tackles him just inside the barracks. "He walked with fiends! It is our doom to enter his chamber!", he cries out as the assassin subdues him.

Brezebar moves through the personal chamber. Several of the clay receptacles contain dark, coagulated material. A noticeable metallic odor is present around that same workspace. Several stray pieces of paper contain smeared diagrams of dissected morlocks, deep elves, and beastmen. The notation identifiable to Brezebar due to his mastery of the Chaotic language. Moving on is the shelf in which are several books in the common tongue of men and three scrolls on the bottom shelf in white leather cases. The desk contains a writing set and several discarded letters written in common. Each is similar to the one read by Gilseax, and contain various notes and scratches as the Pariah solidified his thoughts on trying to bring Gilseax to his cause.

The chest at the foot of the bed is locked.

Gutram, Ranger

Gutram examines the area to see what tracks or signs of passage are about.

Brezebar the Magician

"Quickly!" the mage exclaims to those brethren who've braved the threshold with him. "Let us carry this chest from this dank place!" Brezebar tries to recall if a key had been amongst the Pariah's paltry possession and, if not, looks about for a likely location to hide such a thing.

Eldrek, Fighter (HP 13/16)

Eldrek joins Vane in subduing the duergar. He will be none too gentle as he tackles the dwarf and roughly hauls him back to his feet. He will keep him subdued and will drag him back to wait just outside the doorway of the chamber.

Eldrek and Vane bring the duergar to the doorway of the barracks.

Gutram notices the passage leading deeper into the earth, away from the Chapel, Tower and Allathurion. There are many footprints in the dirt of the stone floor, but none stand out or are specifically identifiable over others.

Brezeber searches across the shelf, wash basin, desk, and lab table, but does not discover the key to the trunk at the foot of the bed.

Seeing that the others subdued the duergar, Kargoth notes the agitated, ransacking Brezebar and the reconnoitering ranger. The Avenging Adept of Clangeddin grumbles something under his breath and smashes the top of the chest with his warhammer.

Brezebar the Magician

The cautious conjurer steps back out of the range of a potential plume of poisonous gas.

That's one way to do it. Vane remarks, obviously amused as he takes a few steps back.

The Subtleties of Locks

Kargoth puts his hammer through the wooden lid. It takes a moment to retrieve the instrument of divine destruction. Once out the wooden remains of the lid are withdrawn along with a few robes made of linen dyed black. Beneath the robes is a single book.

Vane thinks he can hear something. A gentle echo in the direction of deeper under the ground. The rhythmic step of heavy boots on stone with the jingle of armor.

Vane cocks his head to the side, Sounds like we may be entertaining some guests..

Speaking to Eldrek and Kargoth, Can either of you tell how far away they are?

Kargoth / chamber

The dwarf cleric throws a black robe and the book to Brezebar. "You're the new dark mage, bluff whatever's coming," smirks Kargoth, covering the broken chest with another of the robes.

Kargoth calls for the others, if any are outside. He cocks an ear inside in an effort to judge the distance of the footsteps. "Let's get in position to surprise it."

Kargoth gets behind and partially under the table, not difficult given his height, to gain a defensive and surprise edge. He will move the table if necessary to not be too close to the source of the sound. He motions Drog under the table and to stay silent.

Uh, does this sound like one pair of boots or a whole fracken army. 'Cause Brezebar would rather split than be killed.

Not a whole army, but definitely many.
