Nexus gathers his daggers to himself, and then begins to check on his fallen companions. He makes sure to lift Alexa’s book of spells and slip it in beside his own as he realises she is dead. Leaving magic laying around is dangerous business.
He moves over finally to the paladin.
Well he says quietly. Here is a pickle. Do we follow those that fled and see if we can appropriate a horse? Or use some of the cloaks to drag our still alive friends back to the village. I for one think it wise we move those still alive through the hedge there and disguise or cover them from view before we move to see what’s happening with the orcs. If we fail, it might give them a chance to recover and survive without us. We could then carefully investigate what’s happening yonder, quietly and in stealth rather than just marching up and declaring ourselves, if it’s all the same to you! What do you think? I am open to other suggestions that aren’t suicidal!

Re: Session 5: Beliard
"How stealthy do you feel?" asks Roderick quietly. "This heavy armor that probably just saved my life would also make an excellent warning bell announcement of my presence if any of those orcs are still by the horses. You might be able to sneak up unnoticed, at least close enough to get a glimpse of what's there."
Re: Session 5: Beliard
Nexus titters quietly.
You are wearing Platemail not jester bells. You drag Delgrot,
And Ardium back through the hedge and I will sidle up amongst the trees there and take a gander at whats occurring.
The gnome will keep to the trees and bushes as much as possible and see if he can quietly take a look at what else is going on.

Re: Session 5: Beliard
Scouting Ahead
Nexus and Roderick quickly confer and agree that the paladin, in his metal armor, should remain behind and watch over Delgrot and Ardiam, whom they carefully move and conceal in the brush. The bodies of those that recently passed are also collected and positioned nearby.
Once Roderick and the unconscious group members are hidden, Nexus advances for a closer look. The gnome, looking to distance himself from the others as a precaution, veers to his right before beginning his approach. Then, moving patiently and quietly, Nexus creeps forward. The gnome ultimately settings into a spot, roughly 30- or 40-feet northeast of the rest of the group, behind the stump of a large, fallen tree and a patch of brush.

Re: Session 5: Beliard
While Nexus scouts, Roderick takes a closer look at Delgrot's and Adriam's wounds. Seeing that they are far too hurt for his meager skills to help, he takes a moment to pray for his own strength.

Re: Session 5: Beliard
Nexus comes scuttling back a few minutes later. He stops at the paladin to catch his breath.
There’s a ...... cart and horse just over ....... the rise there! he says heaving.
Finally collecting his little self the illusionist continues. I watched for the orcs for a good few minutes, but there’s no sign of them. The horse whinnied a few time’s but didn’t seem spooked or unnerved so I think they have truly gone. Will you come with me to check it out? Perhaps if it’s really clear we can put the bodies of our friends and August in the back and drive them to the village! That was a tough fight eh! Well done on finishing the final orcs. What do you think?

Re: Session 5: Beliard
"That is good news," says Roderick. "But in case the orcs are hiding in hopes of yet another ambush, I think I should go try to gather the horse and cart while you wait here. If the orcs are truly gone, I will bring the horse and cart this way. If they have laid a trap, you will have the advantage of surprise while they attack me. How does that sound?"
Re: Session 5: Beliard
Sure. I can get on board with that. The cart is on the trackway, it’s less than a hundred yards I think. I am out of magic though, but I have my daggers. Good hunting! I shall keep watch for you, behind that bush. Nexus says pointing at the bush he first hid behind.
I would like to not wait near the injured, in case we don’t make it. Don’t want to draw them here if they are still about. Be careful ok!
With that Nexus pats Roderick on the back and gives him the thumbs up.

Horse and Wagon
The gnome ultimately settings into a spot, roughly 30- or 40-feet northeast of the rest of the group, behind the stump of a large, fallen tree and a patch of brush: From there, roughly 40-feet northwest of his current position, and about 75-feet north of the others, Nexus spies a jagged, well-worn dirt path running east/west, and on this path rests single covered wagon with a single horse hitched to it: Overhead map:
The horse, disinterested, sniffs the ground and occasionally bites at something it spots. Probably weeds.
The occasional rustling of grass or brush made by some scurrying woodland creature, and the normal calls from birds perched in neighboring trees or flying overhead, are the only other hints of life.
There are no orcs in sight.
After waiting several minutes, the situation remains unchanged. The horse whinnies once during this time.
Nexus hurries back and shares all the above with Roderick, and the pair agree to the following plan:

Zhym, can you provide me with a 1d10 (surprise) roll?
