Round 1
Dagg continues to advance, and the bridge proves to be more than secure enough, but the bat
(AC 4) proves to be a problem, as it violently whips about the room before diving at the dwarf.
Dagg slices his sword at the flying mammal, clipping its webbed wing. The creature elicits a series of quick "chirping" sounds as it hovers maniacally above the dwarf... until
Siirist sends one of his spears at it, skewering the creature and causing it, along with the spear impailing it, to fall into the chasm being spanned by the rope bridge -- approximately 30-feet down from the sound of it.
At the sound of the chirps, four additional bats dislodge from the ceiling and begin to circle the cavern.
The the man plate mail closes the door on the far wall, remaining inside. If anything was in his hand, no one had a good enough look to notice.

Not wanting to waste his other spear, and make room for the others to come down, he moves two squares to the right of 4, draws his sword, and attacks B5.

Pendleton still has nothing to contribute to the festivities going on below, so he stays where he is.

Sasha notices that nobody else is coming from behind her so, she stops at the landing (3) and shoots an arrow at the bat furthest from her friends. (B3)
She shouts up the hole. We got some huge bats down here! No problem though! I'm sure we got this.......maybe!

"Try the whistles!" calls Pendleton back down. "Bats 'see' by sound. The whistles might confuse them! The whistles might attract attention too, but that's a small price to pay for an interesting experiment, don't you think?"

Sasha thinks to herself...Hmmmmm. The monkoons got my whistle and the new guy doesn't have one. I'm guessing stumpy didn't hear our brave and genius mage, so.....
Dagg! Try blowing your ships whistle to see if it messes with the bats senses!

Round 2
The bats, clearly displeased by the disturbance, circle and dive, with two targeting
Dagg, and one each on
Siirst and
Sasha.
Dagg's plate mail manages to keep the dwarf safe from harm, and
Sasha, too, manages to avoid being struck.
Siirist, however, does get "bitten" as the bat targeting him manages to find exposed flesh.
Dagg takes another step away from the bridge, and, at
Sasha's and
Pendleton's encouragement, brings his ship's whistle to his mouth and blows into it before lashing out wildly with his sword. The piercing sound, which echoes throughout the underground space, sends the enraged bats fluttering away from the sound, but still captivated in the underground space.
Not wanting to waste his other spear, and make room for the others to come down,
Siirst moves down the side bridge heading west and weakly flials with his sword as the bat targeting, but misses when it becomes riled and shifts at the last instant.
Once
Sasha notices that nobody else is coming from behind her, she stops at the landing and fires and arrow wildly at the bat that attacked her moments earlier. Her arrow caroms off the cavern wall and falls into the chasm below.

Siirist continues swinging at the bat like his life depends on it... Because it does.

Sasha drops her bow on the landing behind her and then draws her sword. She swings wildly at the nasty fluttering bat.

Bingus has a vague sense of what's going on down below. "We can't leave them to do the sweatin' themselves, can we?" he asks. It's not a rhetorical question. If another goes down below, the skinny mage will follow.

Pendleton shrugs. "I don't see how my perspiration could be of any use to them—literally or metaphorically."

Dagg annoyed by the bats strikes at them with his sword

Morgan says
As far as I can tell, there's no room for us to fit if we did go down. She peers down the hole again, trying to discern if her last sentence is true or not.

Spaces #1 and #2 are the landing, so it is empty for two more people.

Round 3
Dagg successfully clips the wing of one of the bats swirling overhead near him, but
Sasha and
Sirrist fail to connect with either of their attacks. Provoked, the bats continue to dive and attack, but only
Sasha receives a minor scratch.

Bingus taps a dagger hanging from his belt, mournfully pours the glowing plug of tobacco from his pipe and lowers himself down the ladder. He mutters to himself the whole way down, all variations on the phrase
"Bingus, you old fool, could lock yourself in an outhouse and still piss your trousers."
When he gets to the bottom he'll fling a dagger at one of the bats if Sasha gives him enough space.
Hit AC 4 with dagger short range (+1,+1,-1,0,+4), [1d20+5] = 3+5 = 8, damage [1d4] = 1

Morgan looks at the two remaining up with her and says Into the garbage chute, flyboy (I couldn't resist) There's room for one more, unless you want to be up here alone. She cups her hands around her mouth and shouts down the hole make way... we can help you if we can get down there!

"Your confidence is inspiring," says
Pendleton.
"But I'd just be in the way."
Is there anything as useless as a first-level magic user who's used his spell for the day?
