Father Dowling

The priest cocks an eyebrow as he looks at Nesta. You ask why there are so many people out late at night, yet you seem to know the comings and goings that happen in the late hours. I would think it should prove hard to see them for one tucked into their bed as most decent folk tend to be, in the hours before the cock crows.

Nesta gives the Father a sneer.

What? Are you trying to accuse me of something? No more cookies for you!

I have lived in this town my whole life and I have seen a few things over those many years.

I'm not sure I like your tone. I will be in the back if you need anything else Yohan. I'm not gonna sit here and listen to this fool anymore!

The old woman begins to leave the room.

Yohan
Oh boy, now you've done it.

Will there be anything else I can help you with? I better go try to calm her down.

Orando, elf

"I suppose not..." says Orando, looking to the others.

Sir Ugghra, half-orc aristocrat:

"My Good Man," the debonair demonoid said to the proprietor. "Perhaps You Would Be So Good As To Kindly Direct Us To the Homes of the Families of... Tressa Bird and Cindy Lou Harrison? We'd Be Ever So Grateful If You Could Assist Us."

Yohan

Listen stranger, I ain't in the business of giving out someone's personal information to just anyone that walks through the door.

If'n Ya ain't buying anything, I will take my leave and try to calm down my wife!

The old man waits a bit and then begins walking towards the back room.

Orando, elf

"Being in the employ of the Mayor to help Brotherton, we certainly aren't strangers," rejoins Orando. "We're authorized to reward those who help us." The elf takes out several gold coins. "Save us a trip to your charming Mayor, take the gold, and give us the addresses. Your wife will doubtless appreciate the sudden gold windfall?"

You can keep your gold.

And I will keep my integrity.

I don't give out people's personal information.

Father Dowling

I am sorry if we have said anything to offend. That was in no way our intent, and I feel bad for upsetting you and your lovely wife. I would like to say a quick prayer on behalf of the two of you and also your son, wherever he may be, if you don't mind.

If Yohan does not kick them out, the priest will bow his head and begin a silent prayer.

Certainly Father, please do that. It's reassuring to me that you aren't all the bribing type.

The old man heads off into the back of the store to find his wife.

Orando, blasphemer

Orando smiles as the old man leaves. "Have a good day."

The elf slaps Father Dowling on the back and laughs. "Prayers are but grand bribes to the gods above."

"But don't take me seriously," he adds. "Truth, in the matters of religion, is simply the opinion that has survived."

"Well, onto the next?"

The others notice that the good Father seems to be concentrating extra hard at the end of his prayers. He must really be trying to get in tune with Tyr.

It is still only around mid-morning. This group can catch up with the others if you'd like. Where you go from there is totally up to you.

Option A: Track down and interview the two families of victims today. Tonight, stake out the Devil's Pitchfork. Tomorrow, head to the Tower of Mortimer the Mad at dawn to give us the most daylight.

Option B: Screw all that and go directly to the tower right now.

I honestly thought there would be some grumbling by now about the lack of any actual action in this game. I promise that there is more to this adventure than just talking to old farmers.

Upon exiting the shop, "Well, they seem to think their son just up and left. Though as he didn't appear to take anything with him, that seems a bit dubious unless he was as simple as they claimed. Though I don't see how this helps us any."

"I vote for investigating the former tower. I somehow suspect talking with the...remainders?...the families of those who vanished is just going to dredge up bad memories and make people mad."

Sir Ugghra, half-orc aristocrat:

The relentless royal, who apparently had no qualms about hectoring an old priest for information, sniffed: "One Must Break a Few Eggs to Make a Truffle Lobster Omelette, My Dear."
