Siavel's eyes widen with fear as he sees that two of his most astute fellows have lost their memory. He gathers them close to him and says: "We have much to explain, come!"

He then nods at Bruno, then marches the druid and priest down the stairs - at least halfway while explaining to them that they had lost their memory due to an enchantment of some kind.

Azoth Al-Aziz, occultic priest:

Azoth feared for his sanity. He was lost, trapped in some bewildering dream where events were distorted and unreal.
Perhaps that ethereal yellow mist had somehow conveyed them to the Dreamlands. Was this the fabled jungle of Kled? The dark priest tried to will his mind to calm itself... regain control of his wits...

"By the flames of Hell!" Azoth cursed, both relieved and alarmed. "At least we're not dead... or mad."
He began to silently speculate what magic power at his command could possibly reverse the insidious enchantment's effect upon his mind.

Grindhelm trusts that the two are in good hands and sticks with the gnome.

"I knew this place had a bad feeling. Never a good thing when statues are about."

He grunted. He glared at the bat statue and kept his distance, asking the gnome what they should do about it.

Calto, confused druid

Calto lets his friends lead him from the room.

"Very well. I suppose if this is the afterlife, at least we are all still together. Could be worse..."

Come on. Druids should know all about magic mushrooms! ;)

Blade Rain the fighter shakes his head. "I too am effected!"

Bereft of recent memory, Blade Rain, Azoth the cleric and Calto the druid are hurriedly escorted half-way down the ziggurat stairs by Siavel the magic-user.

Grindhelm the dwarf and Leomar the thief stand guard as Bruno the thief takes out his flask of oil to douse the phycomid fungus. As the gnome gets within 10' the mushroom-like fungus extrudes a tube and lobs a few blobs at Bruno.
Image

The thief nimbly dodges the globules then dumps the oil on the fungus. He steps back out of range and flicks a flame, burning the fungus. It shoots more blobs but they fall short. The flames burn away the fungus.

Then Grindhelm, Leomar, and again Bruno feel the pressure in their heads (Please make Saves.) Bruno realizes it must not be that fungus he burned which is doing this. He looks at the moss/algae on the column.
- Blade Rain save (14) [1d20] = 2 Fail. Blade Rain looses last 24 hours of memory.
- Phycomid blobs at Bruno [1d20] = 7, [1d20] = 10, dam. [1d4+2] = 3+2 = 5, [1d4+2] = 3+2 = 5 Misses
- Calto's druidic knowledge of flora may not apply to vegetation from strange lands he's never seen before. He did identify the phycomid. My post had other clues...
- I think this was clear before, but Siavel and Calto's Detect Magic did not pick up any radiations from the altar or bat; those were Detect Trap emanations.

Hmm, this exact same thing happened one time in my basement... it didn't end well either.

Grindhelm the Dwarf
Save vs Spell [1d20] = 11 pretty sure this is a fail, not sure though

With their magic-resistant demi-human constitutions, both Bruno the gnome and Grindhelm the dwarf stand strong against mental intrusion.
With your bonuses, each made it. We'll see with Dogma and Leomar.

Alex 'Blade Rain' Vam; human male Fighter

Alex, still clutching his head, moved off with the rest of the party. "No offense....but there are times I hate magic"; he says to the party at large; hoping the Mage, Druid and Priest don't take too much offense...

Bruno the mad

Bruno will move to the mossy column and proceed to burn the moss next.

Grindhelm the Dwarf

Grindhelm starts twirling his axe.

"Bruno... this statue is bad, I can feel it. Can I remove it from its pedestal?" He growls, clearly not happy with the effects that had tried to over come him. "There's only one place something can hide, and I'm claiming that statue to be it."

Half-way down the ziggurat steps, Siavel the sorcerer brings his absent-minded comrades up to date on the last 24 hours. Fortunately they retain longer term memories. However, Calto and Azoth are disturbed to realize they no longer recall their spells! The group wonders what is going on with the others.

Meanwhile, atop the ziggurat, Bruno the gnome borrows another flask of oil from Leomar. He approaches the mossy column. The thief's jaw drops when...
the moss shifts, forming two six-inch miniature versions of Calto the druid and Azoth the cleric! The Azoth-moss squeeks a Command to Bruno: "Sleep!" (Please save vs. spell.) The Calto-moss is waving its arms.

Image

Grindhelm and Leomar are about 25' away (at H-13), watching the scene unfold. Neither have lost their memory.
Actions!
- Siavel briefing the others on the stairs will likely take two rounds, after which he'll return to check the top per Magnus' OOC direction.
- Bruno surprised by moss? [1d6] = 1 Bruno is surprised.
- Leomar save vs memory loss [1d20] = 16 Yes
- Bruno doesn't have oil on his character sheet, so I'm assuming he uses Leomar's, who now has three flasks left.

Grindhelm the Dwarf

Seeing the moss monsters appear, Grindhelm is shocked for mere moments before he leaps into action and swings at the one shaped as his druid companion, Calto.

Bruno the mad
Save Vs. Spell = success [1d20] = 16
Bruno draws his short sword and attacks the Calto creature.
Attack Roll to hit [1d20+2] = 8+2 = 10
Damage roll [1d6+3] = 4+3 = 7

When Moss Attacks! - Round One
Image
Bruno, Grindhelm and Leomar lunge forward, steel flashing. The Calto-moss waves its hands out and seems to thrust into Grindhelm's singing axe, splattering greenish-black moss over the fighter's hands and arms. As it contacts the dwarf he feels sharp pain ache through his body (12 HP damage.) But the moss form is destroyed!

Azoth-moss leans into Leomar's sword swing, splattering itself but causing an unnatural fear to grow in Leomar (please roll Save vs. Spell.) The thief's sword scatters the moss-shape apart!

Bruno the gnome resists the sudden urge to sleep from the Azoth-moss' command. But the strain upsets his sword attack and he misses the moss-creature. Then Leomar scatters it with his blow. Bruno notices there is more of the greenish-black moss beginning to undulate on the fallen column!

Actions for Round 2!
- Initiative: Party [1d6] = 1 vs. Monsters [1d6] = 6  Moss wins.
- Azoth-moss CSW on Leomar [2d8+1] = 11+1 = 12 12 to Grindhelm (not Leomar) from Calto-moss (not Azoth)
- Any guesses on what the creatures are?

If Azoth hears the sounds of battle atop the shrine, the spell-less cleric will say to Calto and Siavel, "Something's wrong," and make haste back up the stone steps.

Otherwise, he'll continue listening to Siavel recall the events that have transpired since arriving in this strange land.

Leomar, human thief

They are too many! Leomar thinks as an unnatural fear starts to take hold on him. Shaking his head, the human theif fights against the desire to run.

"No! This is not real! They are just plants! They are doing this to me! I am not afraid!" He declares hoarsely to himself. As the feeling of fear fades, he strikes out at the newly forming creature.
