With Jinsei’s search of the room walls and shelves not yielding the teacup, the ninja turned to the other closet not currently being searched by Fuma.

Jinsei kept an ear open for noises in the house that may be coming near.

Turn 3
Fuma’s finds the lock’s rotor with his tool and he gives it a slow, careful turn. The mechanism unlocks.

Jinsei goes toward the five closet panels lining the opposite wall, the west one. The northernmost one (if there is one) (4 on the map) is obscured by standing screens decorated with paintings of water fowl. He tries the next one to the south. Inside are blankets, wooden headrest pillows, and folded futon mattresses. If the vessel is here, it’s not visible.

From above, the shinobi hear the cry of a brown river heron: the signal for time is short (and the nakama’s inside joke, when not on a mission, for needing an eliminations break).

Turn 4
If closets are unlocked, the ninja can open and look in two per turn. Or they can open one and search it. Jinsei spent Turn 3 moving to the closet and picking the lock.

How long is a turn? I. Trying to determine how long it would take guards to investigate the smoke ruse, thenget back to house and potentially here, I’m wondering about turn length. It would seem not long, if it tookone turn to cross a room and pick a lock.

Turn 4, first half
Sliding the panel to the side, Fuma sees colorful women’s silk kimono folded and stacked. And obi belts for them, as well as summer cotton yukata robes fine women’s geta wooden clogs. But if the tea vessel is here, it’s not apparent to the eye.
Fuma can spend the rest of Turn 4 searching the closet, or move onto the third one of five.

These turns are 12 seconds long. An average human can walk 6 yds or run 12 yds during that time. Bushido's rules on movement rates are kind of weird. ffilz had a gakusho whose movement rate (BMA, Base Movement Rate) was literally slower than a tortoise's.

Jinsei observed the depth of the closets inside, compared to the outside, wondering if there were hidden compartments in the closet.

If not, Jinsei examined the northernmost closet (if there is one) that is behind the standing screens decorated with paintings of water fowl.

Turn 4 (A full complete turn for Jinsei. Fuma can still move to the second half of this turn.)
Jinsei appraised the wall of sliding hardwood closet doors and compared them to the wall rising to the ceiling above, trying to assess whether the closes might have hidden compartments or false walls in their interiors. But he only sees that the doors are flush with the walls to the ceiling.

He steps behind the ornate screen and sees behind it a low, wide desk, with an inkstone and writing brushes, a stack of white paper, and documents written in a variety of handwriting. On top of them is an intricately carved staghorn netsuke fob, in the shape of a yakuza gambler. Only the length of a thumb joint in size.
Image
The young ninja yearns to take the miniature home and examine it and how it could have been made....

An abacas and a hanko signature seal and lie on the tabletop, and behind is a flat zabuton pillow for sitting on the tatami mats. Rolled scrolls of paper stand in tubular stand of hardwood and lacquered reed.

The sliding door of the northernmost closet doesn't budge when pulled. Locked.

Jinsei listened for house activity, and for any warning whistle from Minoru. The ninja then tried to pick the locked northernmost closet door with his tiny pick tools.

Jinsei's BCS for Lockpicking is 8. Need a d20 roll of that or less for a success.

The lock eluded Jinsei’s groping. He signed for Fuma to give it a try.

Fuma runs across the room to that closet.

Turn 6
Fuma picks the lock.
Jinsei?

Fuma slides the hardwood panel aside and he and Jinsei peer in. The see rolls of scrolls neatly stored on racks at the back of the closet. Before them are eight boxes of light wood with the precise tongue-and-groove corners of Nippon craftsmanship. Plain and affordable, but good quality items. Each is around a foot square and two inches high* and has a removable lid. Beside them lies a wakizashi with and ornate but tasteful sheath and handle, possible quite old. Behind it stands a seated, meditating Buddha statuette of carved from a smooth translucent green stone. Jade? The young ninja have heard of a precious green stone from China with that name.
*This time we'll use old English measurement units rather than me belaboring things with explanations of feudal Japanese things.
Turn 6
Fuma picks the lock.
Jinsei watches.

Turn 7 (first half of the 12 seconds)
Fuma and Jinsei observe the contents of the northernmost closet of the west wall. They can use the second half to move to the next closet of that wall or do something else, such as removing the lid of a box, taking or examining an item, or something else. If removing the lid of a box and quickly checking the contents, two of those actions per PC can happen in this turn. If you do that, please state which box(es), 1-8. The boxes are in two rows of 4. 1 at the front left and 8 at the back right.

Jinsei remained disciplined in the face of so much easily pilfered treasure, his eyes darting around for containers of a size that could hold a tea cup. The eight little boxes, being a foot square and only two inches high, were too flat (do we know the cup measurements? Two inches seems too short.) They were probably plates or plaques; Jinsei didn’t really care.

The ninja checked the next closet.

It's the size of a Chinese teacup or a coffee mug. Around 3" - 4" high.

The shinobi at the bedroom's look at the contents of the locked closet and quickly move to the next one to the south. The slide it's door open. It's full of rolled futon mattresses and blankets. If the tea vessel is hear, it's not in obvious sight.

The hear the sound of the feet of a light person approaching from outside the bedroom.

Approaching 7 on the map, from the 10 area. viewtopic.php?p=711441#p711441
